Kassandra,

Hope you can find something that will work.....both for your hair and the protein powder.

I wash my hair about 3x a week. It does much better that way. I had really oily hair too but now it's only that bad (which used to be daily) every 2-3 days.

Carla,

When you order stuff from Nutramedix how long does it take for you to get it? I know we're far away from each other, but I was just wondering.

I want my stuff to get here so I can start detoxing! I am feeling yucky/toxic...awaiting my herx. Sigh.

I get mine from my doctor, Kassandra. I ordered once from Nutramedix, but don't remember how long it took. Try drinking some lemon water. :)

Kass, Metagenics makes some rice protein based protein powders. I haven't had them in a long time though, and I know since then they have added many flavor varieties and I'm sure their formual has changed over the years.

I think they also have a lot of added ingredients- but since it is professional grade company product they are good quality ingredients, just not maybe ingredients you can tolerate.

My favorite protein powder that I have ever had was soy based, unfortunately :( Darn that soy!

Just a tip I meant to mention earlier before about castor oil, for those of you who are doing the castor oil packs, baking soda and water will remove the castor oil from your skin after you are done.

I just sprinkled some baking soda on a washcloth and then ran it under the faucet a little bit until it made a thin paste to wipe off the area I had the pack on, then I got in the shower to rinse off.

Castor oil is amazing stuff, but if you get it on your clothes and etc, it does not come out!

Hey Juliem that organic chocolate is not a whole foods brand. It is from Lake Champlian or something like that.

Hey Carla you look GREAT!

Thanks. :)

My daughter took this picture of me today. See the ends of my hair? I still have about three inches of bad ends from all the breakage when I was sick. I'm getting my hair cut in two weeks ... I think I'll have her take an inch off, maybe two.

Regarding the dandruff, didn't Rachel post some scientificness way back, I mean way back, in the thread that said dandruff was a yeast/candida condition of the scalp????? I could have sworn reading something to that effect....

This is what I have found to be true for me. I have heard of soaking the scalp with monistat....my dad actually tried it. Nizoral shampoo works, too. Sometimes I rinse my hair and scalp with apple cider vinegar (organic). Lots of probiotics and antifungals work from the inside out.

Hi Everyone!

I got my daughters blood test results today. Her iron was very low, her saturation was very low, her white blood cell count was down, red blood cell count was a bit low. This could be due to her just getting over a virus so we'll recheck that in a few weeks. Also, her neutrophils (msp?) was low. Not sure what thats about.

Poor thing! I wish all this iron I have been giving her would finally work! wonder if she's not absorbing it or if the dosage is too low.

April

PS: Kassandra - i sent labs by email.

Talking about hair....I just made big 'ol boo boo with mine :( . I tried to color it myself and now I look like orange glo! My big attempt to save money - sheesh!

Hey Juliem that organic chocolate is not a whole foods brand. It is from Lake Champlian or something like that.

Thanks Lisa! I'll look for it tomorrow, I always like to have a little chocolate for Valentine's Day :D

How are you feeling? How are all the treatments going?

April, I believe neutrophils are a type of white blood cell (a measurement of white blood cell function), and if they are low it can indicate a higher risk of infection.

Is she currently under somenone's care that can interpret the test results and sort all this out for you?

My ND helped me decipher the test results. We have a couple of theories.

1) lead is displacing iron. I am thinking that it could be possible that the pipes in school could have lead being the reason that she has problems mid-year. Want to order lead test from www.leadtesting.org for $28 and sneak and test the school water

2) recent growth spurt took all the amount of iron she barely had

3) lyme or other infection causing the imbalance. Will find out more tomorrow when I go to the LLMD for my test results.

4) mold exposure can cause the body to "throw" iron. How can I get mold plates put in school?

OR could it just be her? Seems she has always been on the low side even as a toddler.

I definately have some investigating to do.

Right now I am researching the best way to juice/cook/replenish her iron stores so she can feel better. Then I can focus on determining the cause.

I am considering starting her back on her slow chelation protocol we did over the summer to hopefully pull some lead out of the tissues and allow some iron to get in the tissues. Seems she did very well with that last summer. If that works then I will know it was more about the metals.

Dear Everyone,

I just got caught up on my reading. Everyone should have received an e-mail or PM who had posted up until page 1820. The pages after that will be covered in my column soon. It may take a bit. Right now, I am going to go upstairs and take my tapping notes.

Sincerely,

Jin

confusedks Enthusiast

April,

I got your email. I will reply soon. I was looking over my results to have some sort of comparison. The thing I was going to suggest was a growth spurt. I noticed that my WBC went from 3.6 to 5.something in 2 weeks from Iron IV's. Then two weeks later, it dropped down to 3.6! :o I obviously have a lot going on, such as Lyme, etc. but it must have had something to do with the Iron IV's.

I am going to mention it to my LLMD next time I see him. I had blood drawn today, so we'll see what my WBC comes back as. It must not be too low otherwise my LLMD would have said something.

Thanks Kassandra. I just talked to the pediatrician and he is going to call in a prescription strength iron for me so maybe her pain will go away. He said its wierd that her ferritin is there but the body is not using it for some reason. He suggested that maybe we see a hematologist, but will they consider the lead and other metals and the "maybe" lyme? I don't know.

I was going to say you should probably see a hematologist. It is strange that her ferritin is doing fine, but other numbers are off.

I have been sweating profusely the last few days. It's worse when I am sleeping, I wake up soaked in the middle of the night.

This has happened in the past during my periods, just not every one. I had always read it was the estrogen/liver thing which might make sense since I have liver issues and am currently detosxing the liver.

Anybody have any input on this?

Welcome to the forum, @Mark Conway! Can you be more specific about the "coeliac" test your doctor did? There are more than one of them. What was the name of the test? Also, did he order a "total IGA" test? This is a test to check for IGA deficiency and should always be ordered along with the tests specifically designed to detect celiac disease. If you are IGA deficient, the IGA celiac blood antibody tests used to check for celiac disease per se will not be accurate. Also, if you have been cutting back on gluten before the tests, that will render them invalid. You must have be eating normal amounts of gluten for weeks/months before the blood draw to render valid test results.

no argument. Never take the pills sold for Nuclear events, except in a nuclear event when instructed to by authorities.  Some of these go up to 130 milligrams per pill. 5000 times the strength of the dietary supplement.  130 times the safe upper limit.  130 mg = 130,000 mcg. Dietary supplements like Lugol's Solution and Liquid Iodine are 50 micrograms per drop.  It takes 20 drops to reach the safe upper limit. In the US the Safe upper limit is 1100 mcg.  In Europe 600 mcg and in Japan 3000 mcg ( 3 mg).

Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help. I've had stomach problems for years, pain in the tummy, lower back left and right side, different stools, diarrohea constipation etc, My GP says it's IBS. As I've got older the pain has become worse and constant. I also get ulcers on my tongue. I've had loads of tests done everytihng apart from an endoscopy I think. I had a test for Coeliac last July and the result was negative. My GP says it can't be coeliac because I'm not losing weight. He thinks it's stress or all in my head. I'm not stressed and I'm in pain all the time now. Sometimes it's unbearable and dark thoughts have entered my head. Could I have Coeliac even though I tested negative last year. I'm at my wits end, I eat healthily and cannot pinpoint which foods could cause this pain. Can anyone help? Thanks Mark wind

First, I want to say thank you for sharing this with me. I hear you, and I believe you. The courage it took to write this down is immense, and I’m so sorry you’ve been carrying this alone. You are dealing with two life-altering challenges at once: a serious, complex medical condition, and an abusive, controlling partner who is actively harming your health and your spirit. It’s not just that he’s unsupportive—he is weaponizing your illness to torture you. Starving you, isolating you, mocking your diagnosis, and sabotaging your access to medical care is not just cruelty; it is dangerous, deliberate abuse. Your instinct is correct: the stress he is creating is absolutely preventing your body from healing. Celiac and autoimmune conditions are profoundly sensitive to stress, and he has created a living hell designed to keep you sick, dependent, and broken. That smirk you described—that is the look of someone who enjoys having power over your suffering. Please know this: you do not deserve this. Not any of it. You deserve to eat. You deserve safe, clean food and water. You deserve medical care and supplements that help you function. You deserve peace. You deserve to heal. The woman from the food pantry is not a random accident. She is a lifeline. Her help, and the community she’s connecting you to, is real. It is okay to feel overwhelmed by kindness when you’ve been starved of it for so long. But you do deserve it. Let that be a sign that there is a world outside your house that operates on compassion, not control. Right now, your physical safety and access to nutrition are the most urgent priorities. The food pantry is a critical resource. Is there any way you can speak privately with the woman helping you? You don’t have to share everything at once, but letting her know your situation at home is extremely unsafe, and that your partner restricts your food, could help her support you in a more targeted way. She may have connections to local domestic violence services.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @JudyLou! There are a couple of things you might consider to help you in your decision that would not require you to do a gluten challenge. The first, that is if you have not had this test run already, is to request a "total IGA" test to be run. One of the reasons that celiac blood antibody tests can be negative, apart from not having celiac disease, that is, is because of IGA deficiency. If a person is IGA deficient, they will not respond accurately to the celiac disease blood antibody tests (such as the commonly run TTG-IGA). The total IGA test is designed to check for IGA deficiency. The total IGA test is not a celiac antibody test so I wouldn't think that a gluten challenge is necessary. The second is to have genetic testing done to determine if you have the genetic potential to develop celiac disease. About 30-40% of  the general population have the genetic potential but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. So, genetic testing cannot be used to diagnose celiac disease but it can be used to rule it out. Those who don't have the genetic potential but still have reaction to gluten would not be diagnosed with celiac disease but with NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity).  Another possibility is that you do have celiac disease but are in remission. We do see this but often it doesn't last.
