OK...finally got a pic of my dog Bear up. He's just lounging in the yard. :) Hes on my personal pic.

He's a cute dog. Looks like he'd be kinda hot with all that fur. :P

Sorry you got sunburned. :(

Also I always get a message that windows is running low on "virtual memory" and its always doing stuff to try to accomadate this problem. I dont think my pics have anything to do with virtual memory though. What does it all mean???

I had this problem too Rachel - on a relatively new computer.

I really don't know didley squat about computers!! and as we know, they are EVIL!!

Anywho - I took it into a computer shop and told them about the problem of 'low virtual memory' and they added some memory  (it was quite cheap) and now it's ok :)

BTW - Bear is gorgeous!!!

Wow, so much to catch up on and where was I?:lol:

Rinne - - you are just the funniest with your golden heels! Perhpas you should be carried around on a Cleopatra-like bejewelled perch, by nearly-nude muscular men.......

I would be okay with that.:lol:

And you're so right, Rinne really nailed it! She said exactly what I was feeling.

It is good to know I am not alone in my feeling of being BORING. :)

As far as root canals I've read enough bad things about them that I'm having mine pulled. Have you looked into the possibility of pulling them and putting in implants. They are pricey from what I can gather. I'm not putting in an implant since I don't have the money to do the crowns I need on top of that.

Can you check with a biological dentist or mercury free dentist for pulling the teeth? Do you even want to do that? You've got to see someone who is familiar with preventing cavitations (they've got to scrape the bone socket).

Good suggestions.

Dear Rinne,

I sell pretty much anything you could use! I have a toaster, a coffee maker (12-cup), a full cookware set, a wok set, Asian decor, incense, you name it! You know what would be really neat? Later, when we both get things going, maybe our companies could give coupons for each others? I could give my customers Rinne Bar coupons, and you could give yours Trippin' Fish coupons! Businesses who work with each other tend to do better.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

When I go international..... :)

I believe I'm starting a herx ... so much for the short run of feeling good. :( I don't know if it's the new meds or my regular herx, which wasn't due to start till Wed.

I hope it's not too bad and passes quickly.

Also I always get a message that windows is running low on "virtual memory" and its always doing stuff to try to accomadate this problem. I dont think my pics have anything to do with virtual memory though. What does it all mean???

I think the virtual memory relates to what you have up at any one time, my computer was doing that a fair bit when I had five or six things up at once on the desktop and since I've stopped letting so many things sit there it seems to have stopped.

Well, that definately seemed like a babesia herx because it was vertigo, air hunger, heart palpitations .... today I'm up, and even out of bed! Yesterday I woke up an hour before I needed to, too -- got up at 6:30 yesterday and took a sauna before Mass ... and I was herxing so bad that I needed a kid's shoulder to hold onto so I didn't fall down. I sat the whole Mass so that I didn't fall down ...

I felt a lot better after I sat at my son's baseball game ... outside ... in the sunshine. Thinking back, all three times I had Lyme symptoms previous to this, I was out in fresh air and sunshine regularly when it went back in remission. Is it the NT Factor helping? Or is the sunshine pushing me over the edge to recovery? Last summer I was getting sunshine and still getting sicker, but I do think it helps.

My tushy still hurts and now it has a bruise ... :( I'm thinking, twice a week? How is my bum going to be looking after a couple months of this?

Rinne and Patti, I'm boring, too. Nothing ever changes. ;)

Speaking of nearly nude muscular men ... did you know the king on the movie 300 is also the Phantom on The Phantom of the Opera?

Yay, finally able to get to page 1012 and 1018, lol...so ya'all will just have to put up with OLD post replies, lol.

I don't blame you for wanting to take the last 7 days you have left. Have you checked into the possibility of getting disability? I don't even know how one goes about that.

So do you think your headaches are from the b12?

Could be from the B12....I may challenge each of my supplements at some point in the near future. Fortunately, while not an expert, I do have some experience with short-term disability so I know sort of how the process works. I've gone out twice on disability for surgeries...2 months with my hysterectomy and almost 2 weeks for my bladder surgery last year. The doctor has to put me out, and then my HR department will give me some papers which I fill out and send in...that's just about it.

Humorous description of a herx ... OMGosh, I can't believe Lymenet comes up as Lame Advertisement!!!!

 funny post! Also quite funny that lymenet is now a lame advertisement, lol.

I'm glad you and Donna have a good doctor too. It's amazing what a helpful doctor can do to our spirits.....as well as a knowlegable one.

I am forever grateful to Rachel for sharing her doctors with me. :P

I need help with my computer.

Because of scrapbooking I have hundreds of pics scanned into my computer. The files are LARGE....I only resize what I wanna use for an avatar. The only small files are what I've resized for using as an avatar or personal pic...everything else is BIG.

My computer runs painfully slow. Does anyone know if I were to delete or resize all these pics to smaller file sizes...will my computer run faster??

Also I always get a message that windows is running low on "virtual memory" and its always doing stuff to try to accomadate this problem. I dont think my pics have anything to do with virtual memory though. What does it all mean???

Should I bother spending time dealing with my pictures....anyone think it will help. My computer doesnt have a ton of memory to begin with.

Lots of people answered this already, but two other things you can do to free up a little space is to defrag your hard drive (which I did yesterday) and to delete temporary internet files.

If you go to start/all program/accessories/system tools...both Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter are there. That would free up some space on the hard drive, which may make everything run just a bit faster. Do you turn your computer off at all? I was told that if you shut down your computer that it clears the RAM or ROM or virtual memory, or something like that.

Pictures can make everything run slower, but I'd start with the other stuff first...you could also just file some of the pictures on C.D or DVD if you have a C.D or DVD burner.

Heinous iPod dying

Oh, the heineousity! That is a serious bummer. At least you were almost home!

Indeed, HEINOSITY all around!!!! and I am so pleased to see the frequent use of the word. Please do remember, though, HEINOSITY is not really a word, I made it up BUT I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE USE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Oh, but it IS a real word my dear...as soon as it was uttered from your lips it became real to us.

They bother me ... I just didn't feel the needle go in ... it's a big shot, so it's a lot of liquid to absorb, and the liquid is thick. It still hurts ... there's still a bump.

Double heinosity!!! :o

I've had allergy tests last year and corn didnt show up so I doubt its a true allergy. True allergies are pretty easy to pinpoint and this has been anything but easy to figure out so I'm thinking its more likely an intolerance.

This thread is really, really long... but I haven't read here in a while... so I thought I might as well add my 2 cents~

Hi Rachel,

About six months into a gluten free diet, my daughters symptoms began to re-emerge. We found she also needed to remove corn.... however, some five years later... she does ok with corn although we try not to overdo (still avoid High fructose corn syrup, corn based pasta, etc). She is 100% gluten free, and mostly casein free, but we've been able to allow corn back in , and she can eat apples and strawberries again, too. We try not to overdo those things that gave her problems in the past.

You said you had allergy testing done. Did you have IgG food allergy testing? Usually, in the allergist office, you get IgE testing only. The IgG testing is a little controversial yet, although more labs are entering the market... and studies are coming in to back up IgG food allergy testing.

If you check The Gluten File linked below my name, there is a page on Food Allergy that lists some of the labs doing IgG food allergy testing. I know a few people who have done this testing, and say they have improved after removing all the foods they show reactive to. With some of these labs you can order on your own; others require a doctor's order.

There is also a page in The Gluten File called Not Celiac? It also has some information on what else to look for in those with celiac disease who are not improving on a gluten free diet alone. It might be worth browsing.

Hope you find some answers soon~

Cara

I wonder if I should put some kind of "update" on my original post in this thread. I always feel bad when people take time to type out responses to my first post.

I wonder if that would be helpful as many people dont realize how old that post is or how long the thread is.

I've actually done that lots of times but it never really makes a difference. :(

One thing I realized is that all my printers are always on....so I dont know if that can slow things down or not  ...my scanner is on as well. I turned of all the printers so we'll see if that helps.

I dont turn my computer off all weekend....because its so slow to turn it back on and get back online. I never even bother to sign off because of having dial up....I'm just really impatient and having a slooooow computer is just not good for my stress level. :P

I LOVE Bear!!!! What an adorable pup. :P

Thanks! I just love Bear to pieces....he's a total mommas boy. Hes such a good dog...I always have him in the yard with me...he never has to be on a leash in front of the house. He knows to not go in the street....even if his ball rolls out there...he'll stop at the curb and wait for me to go get it. :)

He doesnt wander off and he doesnt chase other dogs...hes friendly to all the passer-by's. I've had him since I was 22...he's 13 now...his face is grey now.

I'll put up other pics of him...also when he was a little puppy. :)

I got him from my friend...her dog had 11 puppies. All the puppies were gone except 3...I picked Bear right away. He was different because he has an extra duclaw on his hind legs. I dont know why nobody wanted him cuz he is just the most loyal and loving dog a person could ever ask for.

The "6 toes" thing is kind of a PITA though....cuz I have to clip them as they dont touch the ground and wear down naturally. If I dont clip them they'll curl and go into his pad. He hates for me to clip them and I've had to pay the vet to do it a couple times. Once they even had to sedate him in order to do it!!

Lately he's been pretty good about it....maybe he's finally used to it after 13 years.

Rachel, do you take Bear back and forth with you? He sounds like a good dog. :)

I'm feeling pretty good ever since my son's baseball game yesterday. I think the sun was good for me. Well, everything feels good except for my backside. So, I'm wondering whether that herx was my monthly herx or just from the new meds. Normally, my monthly herx is MUCH worse ... but normally when I start new meds I don't get any relief until the following herx.

Maybe I am getting better. My checkbook is balanced and my bed is made ... two things I didn't do for months!

Morgan used to have a hard time keeping up with me on the elliptical machine ... she always wanted to cover more miles than I did, but now I go really slow and for only 20 minutes. So, when I say I'm 50-70% of normal ... I have high standards. I think that at this point I'm doing as well as most women over 40! But I think most people put up with a certain amount of ill health that they shouldn't have.

I never stay sitting the whole baseball game, my rear would be in major pain lol. I get up and walk around with the 4 little ones most of the game. I have to be at one this afternoon. I hope it isnt raining or snowing again by then.

Hi Paula. I didn't stay for the whole game. I have four kids playing this year, so I only stay for part of the game. Plus, since I just started on minocycline, I didn't know how my skin would react to a little sunshine, so I only stayed for about a half hour. After four games on Saturday, a partial game on Sunday was ample!! :P

Oh, and my backside doesn't hurt from sitting ... I'm now getting injections twice a week there ... B)

I agree with Carla...I think putting a little note at the top of your original post would help a lot.

Well, pooh! :P Do you leave your computer on when you're at your mom's? Maybe you can shut it down just one day a week...however, not having high stress level wins out every time. :P:lol:

That is amazing, lol. Our dog...all my dogs would just run willy nilly any old where...the only way I got my one dog (who got out by accident when my dad came over once) was to yell, "Do you want to ride in the car" which is what I used to say to her everytime she got to go with me...that halted her in her running tracks every time. :P

Maybe I am getting better. My checkbook is balanced and my bed is made ... two things I didn't do for months!

Encouraging!

I have one in soccer and three in softball/baseball. Fortunately our oldest is home from college now, so she'll be able to help some with the driving.

I'm on heavy duty antibiotics for Lyme Disease. Since I have GI issues they changed one of them to injections that I get twice per week. The shot wasn't too bad, it was that there was so much liquid! I didn't even feel the needle go in, but it took about a minute to get all the liquid there and it started hurting then ... it left a lump and today a bruise. I don't have that big of a backside, so I hope the bruise heals quickly! We can use the other side Wed., but next Sun. it will be back to side one.

Mold is in the closet with Rachel's Lyme. Our bathroom needs to be remodeled really badly and I know it has a mold problem ... at least the shower does. I haven't been too worried about it since I don't seem to have too many sensitivities ... but it does need to be ripped out. Kitchen first though.

It sounds like you've been through a lot with your son's health journey, and it's understandable that you're seeking answers and solutions. Given the complexity of his symptoms and medical history, it might be beneficial to explore a few avenues: Encourage your son to keep a detailed journal of his symptoms, including when they occur, their severity, any triggers or patterns, and how they impact his daily life. This information can be valuable during medical consultations and may help identify correlations or trends. Consider seeking opinions from specialized medical centers or academic hospitals that have multidisciplinary teams specializing in gastrointestinal disorders, especially those related to Celiac disease and Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EOE). These centers often have experts who deal with complex cases and can offer a comprehensive evaluation. Since you've already explored alternative medicine with a nutrition response doctor and a gut detox diet, you may want to consider consulting a functional medicine practitioner. They take a holistic approach to health, looking at underlying causes and imbalances that may contribute to symptoms. Given his low vitamin D levels and other nutritional markers, a thorough nutritional assessment by a registered dietitian or nutritionist specializing in gastrointestinal health could provide insights into any deficiencies or dietary adjustments that might help alleviate symptoms. In addition to routine tests, consider asking about more specialized tests that may not be part of standard screenings. These could include comprehensive stool analyses, food intolerance testing, allergy panels, or advanced imaging studies to assess gut health.

Hello, I am a 45 year old mom, who was diagnosed at 29 with Celiac. My now 14 year old son was diagnosed just before his 4th birthday. Needless to say, we are old pros with the diet. He was experiencing some issues, overall health took a major plummet a year ago, and through a bit of work, was diagnosed with EOE. Tried diet alone, but his follow up endoscopy didn't show the improvements his DR. wanted to see, so I tried the medication. (Steroid). He became extremely backed up, and they had him taking Miralax daily. His health plummeted. He is a straight A honor's 8th grader who plays club soccer very competitively. His health continued to decline and at 13 had a colonoscopy and another upper gi. (He was still compacted even with the prep). I finally pulled him off all meds and mira lax, after reading much negative literature online, and put him on a gut detox diet and took him to a nutrition response dr. Finally things have improved. However...over a year later and he is having relapse stomach pain, debilitating stomach pain. Missing a day of school a week, to three this week. This is where we downward spiral with him. He says it doesn't feel the same as when he has gotten backed up before. He is eating prunes, taking his supplements, drinking water...all of the things. Yet, he is feeling horrible. Pain is abdomen, headache, lethargy, diarrhea . He is on a strict gluten dairy, egg free diet. He has adapted well in regards to diet. But I feel like we are missing something here. He is too active, too outgoing to be feeling sick all of the time. His Bilirubin is constantly high. His white blood count always runs slightly low. His vitamin D was very low last time he ran tests, (last month) when he was sick for a week. His celiac markers show negative, so it isn't that. His last endoscopy showed no Eosinaphils in his esophagus.  I have taken him to multiple Ped. Gastro specialists. They run tests, and we get zero answers. I meticulously go through labs, hoping to make some sense and maybe catch something. Any thoughts or ideas would greatly be appreciated.

But if you have been off of wheat for a period of weeks/months leading up to the testing it will likely turn out to be negative for celiac disease, even if you actually have celiac disease. Given your symptoms when consuming gluten, we certainly understand your reluctance to undergo  the "gluten challenge" before testing but you need to understand that the testing may be a waste of time if you don't. What are you going to do if it is negative for celiac disease? Are you going to go back to merrily eating wheat/barley/rye products while living in pain and destroying your health? You will be in a conundrum. Do I or do I not? And you will likely have a difficult time being consistent with your diet. Celiac disease causes inflammation to the small bowel villous lining when gluten containing grains are consumed. This inflammation produces certain antibodies that can be detected in the blood after they reach a certain level, which takes weeks or months after the onset of the disease. If gluten is stopped or drastically reduced, the inflammation begins to decrease and so do the antibodies. Before long, their low levels are not detectable by testing and the antibody blood tests done for diagnosing celiac disease will be negative. Over time, this inflammation wears down the billions of microscopic, finger-like projections that make up the lining and form the nutrient absorbing layer of the small bowel where all the nutrition in our food is absorbed. As the villi bet worn down, vitamin and mineral deficiencies typically develop because absorption is compromised. An endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to microscopically examine this damage is usually the second stage of celiac disease diagnosis. However, when people cut out gluten or cut back on it significantly ahead of time before the biopsy is done, the villous lining has already experienced some healing and the microscopic examination may be negative or inconclusive. I'm not trying to tell you what to do I just want you to understand what the consequences of going gluten free ahead of testing are as far as test results go so that you will either not waste your time in having the tests done or will be prepared for negative test results and the impact that will have on your dietary decisions. And, who are these "consultants" you keep talking about and what are their qualifications? You are in the unenviable position that many who joint this forum have found themselves in. Namely, having begun a gluten free diet before getting a proper diagnosis but unwilling to enter into the gluten challenge for valid testing because of the severity of the symptoms it would cause them.
    • Fluka66
Thank you very much for your reply. I hadn't heard of celiac disease but began to notice a pattern of pain. I've been on the floor more than once with agonising pain but this was always put down to another abdominal problem consequently I've been on a roundabout of backwards and forwards with another consultant for many years. I originally questioned this diagnosis but was assured it was the reason for my pain. Many years later the consultant gave up and I had a new GP. I started to cut out certain food types ,reading packets then really started to cut out wheat and went lactose free. After a month I reintroduced these in one meal and ended screaming in agony the tearing and bloating pain. With this info and a swollen lymph node in my neck I went back to the GP.  I have a referral now . I have also found out that acidic food is causing the terrible pain . My thoughts are this is irritating any ulcers. I'm hoping that after a decade the outlook isn't all bad. My blood test came back with a high marker but I didn't catch what it was. My GP and I have agreed that I won't go back on wheat just for the test due to the pain , my swollen lymph node and blood test results.  Trying to remain calm for the referral and perhaps needed to be more forceful all those years ago but I'm not assertive and consultants can be overwhelming. Many thanks for your reply . Wishing you all the best.

Wow! Fascinating info. Thanks so much! I really appreciate the guidance. @Spacepanther Over the years I have had rheumatologists do full lab work ups on me. They told me they had screened me for arthritis, lupus, and Lyme disease (all negative). In addition to joint pain and stiffness I had swelling in both knees that later moved to my elbow as well.  I also experience stiffness and pain in my neck and shoulders when it flares. I vomited fairly often growing up, but there wasn’t a real pattern to it and I didn’t know it wasn’t normal (thought people caught stomach viruses often).  I don’t usually have stomach symptoms immediately after eating gluten that I notice.  The only other joint condition I know of is fibromyalgia. Good luck! Hope you can get it figured out. I only assumed my joint symptoms were due to the celiac’s because it is under control for the most part on a gluten-free diet.  The rheumatologist also mentioned that some inflammatory/autoimmune diseases can be slow-moving and not detectable until they progress.
