Non Gluten Tummy Ache

Well, my daughter ended up needing an appendectomy a couple of weeks ago. In hindsight she possibly had symptoms of chronic appendicitis - but I thought she was being glutened by cross contamination some where. She had tummy aches that would come and go, nausea, mild fevers - some of the symptoms she had before she was diagnosed celiac.

Then things got way worse on a Tuesday in early June when she starting vomiting bile, fever, tummy ache, and looking like crap. I took her in to the childrens hosp in the evening and the next morning she had her appendix out.

She hasnt had tummy ache since.

How do we tell when a tummy ache is not a gluten tummy ache?? I feel bad that I may have missed early signs of trouble. The signs were identical to when she was being glutened before, the only symptom that was missing was the "gluten migraine" that disappeared after gluten-free diet started.

Anyone else think it was gluten cross contamination and then it turned out to be something else entirely?

Thank God I have not had such a bad experience but can relate because when my son has something as simple as a stomach virus I am panicked over whether or not he was glutened. My son still has occassional stomach trouble even when not glutened so I ignored his stomach ache this Tues. and brought him around other kids. I thought he was just having his usual trouble, but no, he was actually sick. I felt terrible that I exposed other kids to his virus.

Thank you. I must have misinterpreted a study or something. Thank you for the clarification. Much appreciated. Almost three years into my celiac diagnosis and I'm still learning new things.

I wasn’t clear, glucagon and gadolinium were intravenous. I drank about 5 cups of the prep during 45 minutes. I feel very tired now, probably partly because I was nervous, and partly because I had to fast for 6 hours beforehand and wasn’t very hungry when I got home.

That seems at lot of solution to have put threw you when you already have bowel issues , I will phone them tomorrow because it's sorbitol I have reactions too, thankyou for the input how do you feel now ? I'm not sure I can keep still for that long with my back issues either unfortunately I didn't know it could take that long 😕

The solution I had to drink contained sorbitol and mannitol. I was in the MRI, lying on my back, for about 40 minutes. I was given glucagon partway through, and a gadolinium contrast agent. After I got home there was some diarrhea from the prep solution.
