It is Summerfest time again...It is a huge outdoor music festival here in Milwaukee. It is sooooo much fun to walk around and see all of the bands and dance and eat (I can only get corn on the cob) and drink!! It is Miller country here, or should I say beer country here!!?? We were walking past the Lakefront Brewery stand and there was the NEW GRIST sign!! I drank a cold, tap beer!!! :D Everyone I was with kept laughing at me because I was so excited!! It was the same price as the other beer too!! I kept telling them thank you and could you please bring this back next year.

If anyone is interested in seeing how big of a festival this is, just visit www.summerfest.com. We went to Tom Petty/Pearl Jam on the "pay" stage. All of the other acts were included in the admission price.

How exciting for us!!!

Wow, I thought tap beer was one of the "never again" treats. What a hope-inspiring story! I too would have been dancing for joy!

Never seen someone so happy to spend 5 dollars for a beer. You see the article in the journal sentinel a few days ago about Lakefront Brewery and New Grist?

I am super duper excited for you! I was at the Taste of Chicago last night... I too enjoyed some corn on the cob... and frozen bananas dipped in chocolate... I miss eating and drinking the other stuff... but I focus on the fun times!!!

I can't believe they had NEW GRIST ON TAP! Very good news.

Smiles to you,

On a side note, I just saw Pearl Jam last night at the MGM Grand Arena.

Eddie was hammered, but performed for almost 2.5 hours straight. The arena went crazy when they played "Betterman", "Alive", "Black" and "Daughter"...

Darn good show!!!

Ah, for a gluten-free mimic of Guinness's Extra Stout.

I think it is awesome Anheuser-Busch is consider a gluten free beer...although I really hope Miller jumps on the bandwagon.

Eddie went to my high school (years and years before I did - obviously :)). He apparantly dated our attendance lady (when she was in high school there too). It was pretty funny to think that the lady handing out detentions and Saturday schools used to date Eddie Vedder.

Hmmm... I was guessing that it would be viewed as though at such a big festival they were serving gluten free beer and it was the same price as regular beer. Those that know gluten-free beer at the store, it is a lot more money than regular.

Yes, I did see the article.

I was just joking around about Summerfest's prices, I was not trying to downplay about Lake Front serving New Grist there.

Hello, @NCalvo822, Blood tests for Celiac Disease test for antibodies our bodies make in response to gluten exposure.  These Tg IgA 2 antibodies mistakenly attack our own bodies, causing problems in organs and tissues other than just the digestive tract.  Joints can ache, thyroid problems or the pancreas can develop.  Ataxia is just one of over two hundred symptoms of Celiac Disease. Some people with Celiac Disease also make tTg IgA 6 antibodies in response to gluten exposure.  The tTg IgA 6 antibodies attack the brain, causing ataxia.  These tTg IgA 6 antibodies are also found in people with Parkinson's disease, though they may not have Celiac Disease.  First degree relatives (parents, siblings, children) of those diagnosed with Celiac should be tested as well.  Celiac is genetic.  Your mom and sister should be tested for Celiac, too!   Definitely a good idea to keep to a gluten free diet.

@Rebeccaj,  When you smell toast or pasta cooking, that means that particles of that food are floating around in the air.  Airborne gluten can then be inhaled and swallowed, meaning the food particles get into your digestive tract.   If you're careful to avoid gluten and are still having symptoms, those symptoms could be caused by vitamin deficiencies.

ok thanks for your advice. But my question was what happens when someone you know in a house is cooking pasta or toast that's flour  Airbourne without eating.?

Do discuss this recent article with your doctors.  Thiamine Vitamin B 1 is important to intestinal health.  Thiamine deficiency can occur in Celiac Disease due to malabsorption.  Supplementing with a B Complex, Benfotiamine, and Vitamin D can help symptoms.   Thiamine deficiency aggravates experimental colitis in mice by promoting glycolytic reprogramming in macrophages https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39890689/#:~:text=Our mechanistic study revealed that, necessary to protect against colitis. "Conclusion and implications: Our study provides evidence linking thiamine deficiency with proinflammatory macrophage activation and colitis aggravation, suggesting that monitoring thiamine status and adjusting thiamine intake is necessary to protect against colitis."

Do keep in mind that most gluten free flours are not enriched nor fortified with vitamins and minerals like gluten containing flours are required to do.   Consuming a diet high in carbohydrates without sufficient B vitamins to digest and process them into energy can lead to High Calorie Malnutrition and weight gain. Deficiency symptoms of B vitamins resemble gastrointestinal symptoms when after eating gluten.  Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a form of Thiamine deficiency.   Do talk to your doctors about supplementing with essential nutrients while on the gluten free diet, especially if you're consuming processed foods.
