Hi Everyone, I am pretty new to all of this, infact I'm trying hard just to watch what I eat but here is my question. Does anyone know anything about Avon Anew products? I have used the anew alternative anti aging lotion and I love it but I don't have a clue whether it is gluten free. also can a person use Suave shampoo. We go through shampoo around here like crazy and can't really afford the high price kinds. Any suggestions would sure be apreciated. Thanks all, I sure am glad I found this site and all you kind and helpful people, it can feel pretty lonely at times with celiac disease. :(

Don't use sauve products...usually contain wheat protien. i use Loreal vive, inexpensive and good. I'm not sure about Avon products but when reading labels for topical products (lotions, face wash, body wash, etc) I look for hydrogelized wheat protiens and oils, tictonium, and milk protien. Good luck! Check the safe and forbidden lists on this site...really helped me when I first started

Hi, The section you probably need now is the product section. There are a lot of threads on shampoo and makeup. Try favorites. I use Avalon Organics Shampoo Tea Tree Mint Treatment. I have to use products without Sodium Laurel Sulfates because they cause me to itch and a rash. I still don't know of a conditioner. I just use the one with my hair color. I called and they said it was gluten-free. I still don't have all the lists myself. I use baking soda to brush my teeth because of the sodium laurel sulfates. I just keep it simple until I learn more. Hope this helps some. There is a lot to learn from this group. I bought the shampoo at the grocery store. It was about $10.00. There are cheaper ones but I don'tknow of any without the SLS. Linda Lee

Thanks Linda, that helps alot, now if I can just find out about Avon products, I could try to contact them, hopefully they will know. lol. This celiac disease is alot to try and manage. I have never been good on any diet before. I am one of the minority who has gained weight since I have been diagnosed. I guess I shouldn't complain though as being too skinny has it's own problems. Sometimes I just get frustrated and sad. Thank you so much, need a friend.

Murlene, try to look on the bright side. You know what you have. Now the only thing we have to do is learn everything we can to not get gluttened!!! Calcium and magnesium help with the weight. I don't have that issue. I do need to exercise more. Hang in there, LindaLee

I couldn't identify any specific ingredient in Suave shampoo that sounded like gluten, but the rash on my eyelids cleared up when I switched to Neutrogena. It could easily have been something else besides gluten, I suppose, but something in the Suave was definitely causing me problems.

Dear LindaLee, Thank you, I need exercise also. Just been so sore all over lately can't seem to do much besides go to work. I used to be a real clean freak about housework and now I am letting alot of things go. Actually it feels pretty good to accept what I can do and leave the rest. I wonder how long it will take to start feeling better. Say do you know what b vitamin is important for us and why? I have seen people write about vitamin b but was wondering is we have a shortage of it because of celiac or what. So much to learn. I have been taking iron and fish oil. The Dr. had me on Lipitor and then I read in the book called Celiac Bible that Lipitor isn't gluten free. Another case of the Dr. not know what we can and can't have. Luckily I felt sick on lipitor and stopped even before I had read about it. Thanks LindaLee for listening-so to speak-as I ramble on :) Have a great day and wonderful gluten free weekend!

Thank Jeanne, I apreciate you letting me know. I think I will switch to Loreal. So many things to watch out for. A person really takes alot for granted until you have celiac and have to be a major detective to find out what is and isn't good for us. Have a great day and thanks again. This site sure makes a person feel less alone and has such great people with such good info. Just LOVE it!!!!!!

Hi Murlene.

This celiac disease is alot to try and manage. I have never been good on any diet before. I am one of the minority who has gained weight since I have been diagnosed. You have come to a good place to find a friend, I think you will find many. This is a wonderful site, people are kind and welcoming. I've only been here for a few weeks but it has already helped me more than I know how to say.

How long ago were you diagnosed?

And thanks for the question, I quit putting anything on my face just cause I got too overwhelmed to care about it.

With suave, it depends on the formula. Suave is a unilever company that will clearly list gluten containing ingredients, food or otherwise. I've never had a problem with it. Is there something else that could be bothering you?

Also, beware procter & gamble companies, they won't verify anything as being gluten-free.

Hi, I was diagnost a year ago but kept up with my ole ways and got sicker, I just couldn't get my head out of the sand and really take hold of a gluten free way of life. I figured it couldn't kill me-WRONG! then I read some pretty bad stuff about all the things that can be attributed to Celiac disease and decided I had to get real with myself and care enough about me for a change. So here I am trying to figure out all this and like you said-this site is the best for that. I have found out things I never even thought about before. Thanks for you encouraging words and keep up the good fight! Murlene

I read Suave bottles and my kids use it, even my gluten-free kids.

I like just plain coconut oil on my face. Leaves it sooo soft! There aren't any other ingredients than coconut oil, which I like, plain stuff! It's also cheap. I'm 43 and have tried many very expensive face products, this works great. My 18 year-old daughter likes it so much she asked, "Can you get addicted to coconut oil, and if you do is it bad?"

I have been using Zia Moisturizing Cleanser and at night, Zia Ultimate Night Renewal--I'm very happy with it!

Murlene, Hi, just now saw your post. You might be a little depressed. That is another side effect. I took St Johns wort for a while. Staying on the computer so much cuts down on the cleaning. I need to do that too. It's good exercise, right? I take a B complex and B-12 3000 mcg sublingual--It is from Biochem. I don't take cholesterol medicine. I don't take any medicine. I just started iron and I do take fish oil and flax oil and a bunch of other vitamins. Keep your spirits up. LL

Murlene,

a lot of Avon products are gluten free. Whenever I find a product that I am unsure of, I'll email them and they normally reply back within a week.

I do believe that people are under so much pressure up have a sleeping  pattern ,  with working and how households work these days , but in reality there is no wrong or right at to sleep , I believe your neighbour showed this with such a long life , I do exactly the same  at night many times so I hope I live into my nineties also , I have found one thing in life your body knows what's best so good to listen to wat it needs however unconventional that maybe 🤗

Try adding some Thiamine Hydrochloride (thiamine HCl) and see if there's any difference.  Thiamine HCl uses special thiamine transporters to get inside cells.  I take it myself.   Tryptophan will help heal the intestines.  Tryptophan is that amino acid in turkey that makes you sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner.  I take mine with magnesium before bedtime.

I live in the upper mid-west and was just diagnosed with marsh 3c celiac less than a month ago.  As a 51 year old male, I now take a couple of different gluten free vitamins.  I have not noticed any reaction to either of these items.  Both were purchased from Amazon. 1.  Nature Made Multivitamin For Him with No Iron 2.  Gade Nutrition Organic Quercetin with Bromelain Vitamin C and Zinc Between those two, I am ingesting 2000 IU of vitamin D per day. Best of luck, Known1

I am doing a gluten challenge right now and I bought vital wheat gluten so I can know exactly how much gluten I am getting. One tablespoon is 7g so 1½ tablespoons of Vital Wheat Gluten per day will get you to 10g You could add it to bean burgers as a binder or add to hot chocolate or apple sauce and stir.

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +
