Search Tip

Hi,

If you are frustrated with the limited search capabilities of this board (like me), you can search it using Google instead. Go to the Open Original Shared Link and enter the phrase you want to search for in the box followed by: site:www.glutenfreeforum.com. For example, to search for anything containing the words "Heinz tomato juice", enter the following:

Heinz tomato juice site:www.glutenfreeforum.com

You'll get a list of the posts that have any of those words and a summary of the post.

You can also enter specific phases using quotes, e.g.

"Heinz tomato juice" site.www.glutenfreeforum.com

This search would give you only posts that specifically say Heinz tomato sauce, as opposed to containing any of the three words.

Hope this is helpful.

Susan

VERY helpful!!!! Thank you SOOOO much!!!! I frequent a Lyme disease board, where I do alot of searches. I just tried this there and it worked like a charm!!!!!

The search function here is actually better than the one there, if you can believe that!! :D

This is a more helpful way to search. I actually search the forum this way all the time--works better for me than using the celiac search engine. Lots of times I combine user names with topics too...like if I am looking for a thread I did on ice cream, I might try searching jenvan ice cream. I actually did this on Saturday when I was looking for the choc ice cream recipe Vincent posted using Vance's. Found it right away. Gotta love google :)

Thank you so much, this is just what I need today!! I have been searching for a thread for awhile and getting frustrated! I can't believe how much information is on this forum-not simply celiac info-but tech help too! Love it!! :)

What a time-saver. I don't have a lot of computer time - and it takes soooo long to read through a long list of posts from a one-word search. I'll be using this google search from now on.

This is a great tip--I will try to add this to the search page so people can do this kind of search from there. Don't forget our Open Original Shared Link page which may also be helpful to some people.

Take care,

Scott

Thanks Susan and Scott

These tips will really help. Didn't know of the one option Scott mentioned.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
