It is for teaching Kindergarten................*sigh* I'm totally going to freak out until Monday.

How about something a little bit more exciting............................ like roller derby! Now I am REALLY dating myself!!!!!

:o

Karen,

You aren't any older than most of us here. I don't remember what decade roller derby was popular but I do know about it.

I'm pretty sure roller derby was the 70's

For some reason it reminds me of that song by the Bay City Rollers,

S, A, T, U, R, D, A, Y....NIGHTS!!!!

Karen, roller derby would be a fun way to work out our agressions due to our health issues, much like my punching bag :lol::lol:

Jessica, I will be thinking good thoughts for you!!! Best of luck with the interview and keep us posted how it goes :)

I took ice skating lessons in the 70s when it was really popular then, around the time of Dorothy Hammill (sp?) and the movie Ice Castles, LOVED that movie. :

I loved Ice Castles too. Did you ever see The Cutting Edge? I liked that one too, especially the end skating sequence.

LOOKING THROUGH THE EYES OF LOVE (Melissa Manchester)

Please, don't let this feeling end,

It's ev'rything I am,

Ev'rything I wanna be;

I can see what's mine now,

Finding out what's true,

Since I've found you

Lookin' through the eyes of love

Now I can take the time,

I can see my life

As it comes on shining now;

Reachin' out to touch you,

I can feel so much,

Since I've found you

Lookin' through the eyes of love.

And now I do believe,

That even in a storm, we'll find some light;

Knowin' you're beside me,

I'm alright.

Please, don't let this feelin' end,

It might not come again;

And I want to remember

How it feels to touch you;

How I feel so much,

Since I've found you

Lookin' through the eyes of love.

A couple of years ago, I decided to "re-learn" to skate so I could mess around with Walker at the rink and help him learn to skate. Before I decided I'd get a stick and try to play hockey with him, I was at the sporting goods shop and I asked the fella if I should get hockey skates or figure skates.

Him: If you want to fall on your face - get figure skates, if you want to fall on your a$$ get hockey skates.

Me: Hockey skates it is!

We had a parents vs. kids hockey game last March and I had a blast! Too bad I can only turn to the left, can't skate backwards and use the boards to stop or I'd go to the women's shinny at our rink. Now Ty's signed up for hockey too. I can hardly wait. He's so little the equipment will outweigh him. Evaluations start Sept. 6th. :blink:

Too true!!!

When I took lessons as a kid, I had constant bruises on my knees and hips from falling on turns, jumps, etc. I only got far enough along to do a single axle though :rolleyes:

One of the first things I learned in skating was the hockey stop, so that we could spray the boys with ice :P

Much more fun than a boring and slow t-stop...and you get some awesome ice off of those sharp figure skates ;)

That's so awesome about Ty!!!

Just so you all know, I got the news yesterday that I am going to GREENLAND next summer.

I will be there for about a year, leaving the wife and kids behind here in Saskatchewan. They inform me that my diet is not a problem (which makes me VERY happy). I don't have much in the way of final details right now, but will post them as I know.

Back to the conversation at hand -- I have not been roller skating in some time. I grew up in a city of 750K people, and we only had 1 rink (not very popular I guess). I miss it, but would not remember how to skate at all.

Gotta run. Talk to you all soon!

We got our 6 year old some roller skates for her birthday. She loved them! We probably don't get out there & roller skate as often as we should but when she does she has so much fun.

I know that leaving your family is going to be difficult. How did they take the news?

That's when I find some other jeans to try on. Ha! Yikes, that is a bit much!

Yea, but we were on vacation when I bought them ... money doesn't count when it's spent on vacation!!! :P

Well, hubby and I were on a business trip (everything was free for us, the manufacturer paid for all our food, company paid for Adam's plane tickets and hotel). I did not gamble, but spent my $ on jeans!! I said that I'd rather something to show for what I would have lost anyway!! <_< That is the same trip where we went to see Aerosmith ... the jeans were cheap compared to the concert tickets! Okay, it was a splurge, but it's been a long time since hubby and I were anywhere minus kids ... problem is, once you wear expensive jeans ... ugh. And Guess jeans are made for those of us who end up as thin as a rail!!

Congratulations, Ryan.

Chelsea, we need a pic of the new color!

Well, gotta run. Sorry I didn't read everything in detail ... I have much more energy today, so I think I'm finally beating this virus.

Have a great day! I miss Rachelville! Morgan says hello and she might get on for a while.

Jenny,

Welcome! :D

Would you just like to be a "visitor" or would you like a job (application on page 1) and to become a "resident" of our paradise community? We would need to know your interests/hobbies to be able to better place you if you'd like to be a "resident". :P

I just wanted to stop in and say Hi :) I can't read everything now bc I'm tying up the phone line and have been for a while now. Don't write too much or I won't ever catch up :blink: or at least don't be suprised when I respond to comments made a few days prior :P Have a good day everyone B)

Ryan that's great! I know you wanted this post. So in about 1 1/2 you get to go to Colorado Springs? Was that it? I know it was a Springs. :P It's great that the diet won't be a problem. I second Patti, how is the family taking this?

Hi Carla and Morgan, miss you guys! Get back to Rachelville soon :)

You know what would be so much fun? If we all got together for a big Rachelville party and go roller skating. I think that would be a blast.

Good morning Andrea, how are you and the kids??

Hi Jennj!! Welcome :)

So anyone have any good plans for the weekend?

We are supposed to go racing but it is 40% chance of rain. That is no fun at all.

I guess we might go antique shopping or something like that if it does rain.

I don't really have any big plans yet. I will go to a pilates class on Sat and yoga on Sun so far....maybe go look at some model homes for decorating ideas.

Antique shopping sounds fun SusanW, are you looking for anything particular??

No, it is just something I like to do. I never really know what I'm looking for until I find it.

      @rei.b,  I understand how frustrating starting a new way of eating can be.  I tried all sorts of gluten-free processed foods and just kept feeling worse.  My health didn't improve until I started the low histamine AIP diet.  It makes a big difference.   Gluten fits into opioid receptors in our bodies.  So, removing gluten can cause withdrawal symptoms and reveals the underlying discomfort.  SIBO can cause digestive symptoms.  SIBO can prevent vitamins from being absorbed by the intestines.  Thiamine insufficiency causes Gastrointestinal Beriberi (bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation).  Thiamine is the B vitamin that runs out first because it can only be stored for two weeks.  We need more thiamine when we're sick or under emotional stress.  Gastric Beriberi is under recognised by doctors.  An Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test is more accurate than a blood test for thiamine deficiency, but the best way to see if you're low in thiamine is to take it and look for health improvement.  Don't take Thiamine Mononitrate because the body can't utilize it well.  Try Benfotiamine.  Thiamine is water soluble, nontoxic and safe even at high doses.  I thought it was crazy, too, but simple vitamins and minerals are important.  The eight B vitamins work together, so a B Complex, Benfotiamine,  magnesium and Vitamin D really helped get my body to start healing, along with the AIP diet.  Once you heal, you add foods back in, so the AIP diet is worth doing for a few months. I do hope you'll consider the AIP diet and Benfotiamine.

      Imemsm, Most of us have experienced discontinued, not currently available or products that suddenly become seasonal.   My biggest fear about relocating from Maryland to Florida 5 years ago, was being able to find gluten-free foods that fit my restricted diet.  I soon found out that the Win Dixie and Publix supper markets actually has 99% of their gluten-free foods tagged, next to the price.  The gluten-free tags opened up a  lot of foods that aren't actually marked gluten-free by the manufacture.  Now I only need to check for my other dietary restrictions.  Where my son lives in New Hartford, New York there's a Hannaford Supermarket that also has a gluten-free tag next to the price tag.  Hopefully you can locate a Supermarket within a reasonable travel distance that you can learn what foods to check out at a Supermarket close to you.  I have dermatitis herpetiformis too and I'm very sensitive to gluten and the three stores I named were very gluten-free friendly.  Good Luck

      Okay well the info about TTG-A actually makes a lot of sense and I wish the PA had explained that to me. But yes, I would assume I would have intestinal damage from eating a lot of gluten for 32 years while having all these symptoms. As far as avoiding gluten foods - I was definitely not doing that. Bread, pasta, quesadillas (with flour tortillas) and crackers are my 4 favorite foods and I ate at least one of those things multiple times a day e.g. breakfast with eggs and toast, a cheese quesadilla for lunch, and pasta for dinner, and crackers and cheese as a before bed snack. I'm not even kidding.  I'm not really big on sugar, so I don't really do sweets. I don't have any of those conditions.  I am not sure if I have the genes or not. When the geneticist did my genetic testing for EDS this year, I didn't think to ask for him to request the celiac genes so they didn't test for them, unfortunately.  I guess another expectation I had is  that if gluten was the issue, the gluten-free diet would make me feel better, and I'm 3 months in and that hasn't been the case. I am being very careful and reading every label because I didn't want to screw this up and have to do gluten-free for longer than necessary if I end up not having celiac. I'm literally checking everything, even tea and anything else prepacked like caramel dip. Honestly its making me anxious 😅
    • knitty kitty
      So you're saying that you think you should have severe intestinal damage since you've had the symptoms so long?   DGP IgG antibodies are produced in response to a partial gluten molecule.  This is different than what tissue transglutaminase antibodies are  produced in response to.   TTg IgA antibodies are produced in the intestines in response to gluten.  The tTg IgA antibodies attack our own cells because a structural component in our cell membranes resembles a part of gluten.  There's a correlation between the level of intestinal damage with the level of tTg antibodies produced.  You are not producing a high number of tTg IgA antibodies, so your level of tissue damage in your intestines is not very bad.  Be thankful.   There may be reasons why you are not producing a high quantity of tTg IgA antibodies.  Consuming ten grams or more of gluten a day for two weeks to two months before blood tests are done is required to get sufficient antibody production and damage to the intestines.  Some undiagnosed people tend to subconsciously avoid lots of gluten.  Cookies and cakes do not contain as much gluten as artisan breads and thick chewy pizza crust.  Anemia, diabetes and thiamine deficiency can affect IgA antibody production as well.   Do you carry genes for Celiac?  They frequently go along with EDS.
    • rei.b
      I was tested for celiac at the same time, so I wasn't taking naltrexone yet. I say that, because I don't. The endoscopy showed some mild inflammation but was inconclusive as to celiac disease. They took several biopsies and that's all that was shown. I was not given a Marsh score.
