HI guys,

I have been skulking around, trying to distract myself answering some posts on different threads. This is the only place i knew to come to....I cant talk to my family cause they already think I am a worry wort over everything.

sigh.....

Matt has been having problems off and on with leg pain, they xrayed him last Monday... doc's office calls and says he wants to see Matt again... we saw doc today.

ok deep breath... I am hoping they just want to be thorough cause they know what a pain in the neck mom i can be.........

They want to do a bone scan because something doesnt look right in his distal femur.

This cant be ahppening.

The nuclear imaging place is supposed to call this week with an appt. Part of me wants it to be months away cause that means they are not worried and another part wants it ot be right away in c se it IS something...

I think I will be awake for while :(

Please pray for Matt, he's only 12..........

AndreaB Contributor

Will keep him in our prayers. Is he the one that has Celiac in your family?

I'm heading out to get the kids to bed.

Hugs.

2kids4me - I will be thinking of you (& Matt)

Hoping it isn't something serious.

Hope he gets the scan done asap - then you'll know what you're dealing with.

With 3 boys, I totally understand that all consuming anxiety and worry about your kids (well, what Mother doesn't!??)

I have a 12yr old boy too!! (My youngest)

Fingers crossed for you - let us know what happens :)

He is booked for Nov 8th, they inject the radioisotope and then we hang around for 2 hours, then they scan. I usually stress out for a few days thinking of what they might find - then I remind myself - they want to rule out a tumour not confirm it. Big difference.

Kathryn kept me distracted with a viral bug of some kind - vomiting /diarrhea - preceded by a major nosebleed...so I was up til 5:30 am when she finally fell asleep. Now doing laundry associated with "I almost got to the toilet" accidents.

At least it is a sunny day - snow and ice all around but the sunshine is therapeutic!

I will keep everyone up to date - it lifts my spirits knowing prayers are out there :D:D

HI everyone, Thanks so much for caring! The appt went well, they scanned him from the pelvis to his toes. Including a 3D image of the knee area. Talk about hi tech devices. Matt did wonderful! He had to lie completely still for 13 minutes while they took the multiple views (32) to create the 3 D effect. The scanner reminded me of a waffle iron - I dont know why - guess I was hungry :D

We wont know results for few days - because of active growth plates they have to have a pediatric radiologist /nuclear scanner doctor evaluate the films. I am happy they are being so thorough - I am a bit mroe relaxed now that the test is done.... I seem to get more worked up prior to the tests

In the mean time Kathryn was sick with "Norwalk" and had horrible diarrhea for 24 hours. (yes - in addition to the vomiting last week)

Today , I celebrate - both kids are at school, no bathrooms to disinfect, and no extra laundry .

Funny how the small things in life can make a person happy. Before motherhood, I thought a good day was fun at work, a social life or curling up with my cat. Now I deem it a great day - when I dont have to clean up diarrhea! :P

Hi Sandy,

Glad to hear the test went well. Keep us posted on the results, Will continue thinking of you and Matt :)

Sandy,

I hear you.

Glad the test went well. Will wait for updates when you get the results. :)

GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bone scan normal! So the part of his femur that looked abnormal is not "active" whcih means he must have, at some point in the past banged his thigh hard enough to cause a bit of bone reaction. Not sure when, but he IS a boy! :D

YEAH

We are off to a fall camp with scouts this weekend - yes, camping in tents, gotta remember my layers. For anyone else with boys, yes it is very doable to take diabetic/ celiac camping with a bunch of scouts and have him eat safe, be safe and all of that. They get to learn how to cook with a one burner white gas stove this weekend. AND his patrol members all picked out a gluten free meal that could be made in one pot. Potatoes, carrots and gluten free meat (gotta love Grimms). :)

If it wasnt for my buggered rotator cuff. I'd be doing cartwheels.

So for now, stretches in the evening for Matt, advil as needed.

:D:D:D:D Happy day

Sandy

Cold/flu or gluten poisoning? Hello. I've had another similar episode. I find it very difficult to differentiate between the symptoms of a cold or flu and those caused by gluten poisoning. In fact, I don't know if my current worsening is due to having eaten something that disagreed with me or if the cold I have has caused my body, which is hypersensitive, to produce symptoms similar to those of gluten poisoning.

I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I got my liver test last month and it was in normal range. Two years ago I did have a vitamin D deficiency but I'm know taking vitamin D3 pills. Last month I got my vitamin D checked and it was in normal range. I don't believe I've had my choline checked. However, I do drink almond milk eat Greek yogurt on a daily basis.

Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) can be associated with low ferritin and iron deficiency. Once Celiac Disease (1% of the population affected) has been ruled out by tests the next step is to check for Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (10% of the population affected) by eliminating gluten for a trial period, then re-introduce Gluten Challange. Have you been supplementing Iron? How are your liver enzymes? Low levels of ferritin indicate iron deficiency, while  59% transferrin saturation indicates high iron levels.  Possibly indicating Fatty Liver Disease.  Choline is crucial for liver health, and deficiency is a known trigger for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver.  Some experts say that less than 10% eat the the Food and Nutrition Board established Adequate Intake that are based on the prevention of liver damage. Severe constipation and hemorrhoids may be linked to a bile or choline deficiency.  "Ninety-five percent of phospholipids (PLs) in bile is secreted as phosphatidylcholine or lecithin."  Fatty acid composition of phospholipids in bile in man   Deficiency of these bile salts causes the bile to get thick. Some people with Celiac Disease are misdiagnosed with Gall Bladder bile issues.  Removal of the gallbladder provides only temporary relief. Whether or not celiac disease or NCGS are your issues you need to look at your vitamin D blood level.

      Thanks for your input.

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.
