Did anybody watch last night's ep?

It just keeps getting more and more complex and it hurts my brain

One thing I think is interesting is that the first three seasons flashed back to before the crash, and starting with last year's season finale and into this season so far they are flashing forward to post island/present day surrounding the survivors (who are supposedly the only survivors), the "Oceanic 6".

Is there ANY point in tuning into this show if I've never ever watched it?

Would I be like this --->, or are you like that anyway?

Maybe I should get the dvd version and start from the beginning? LOL

Most likely you would be royally confused :lol:

In all seriousness, I do get it most of the time, but it really makes you have to sit back and *think* and put things together.

Since they are doing it a little differently, flashing forward, you might kind of catch on if you start watching now, but I really do recommend, if you are interested in "getting LOST" , to get the DVD and start at the beginning and get all caught up and familiarize yourself with all the character backgrounds, storlylines, and etc.

There are lots of little details that you wouldn't be able to pick up on unless you do have the back story.

I did! As if it wasn't confusing enough, they go and add 4 new characters to the mix

I did notice that they only do flash-aheads, not flash-backs anymore.

Mango--I think this is a show that you really need to have watched from the get-go. It's hard for me to follow sometimes, and I've watched the whole time. It's a great show, though. If you do get the DVD, I bet you'll really enjoy it :)

I do have this face quite often when watching  , but I just hang on and things always sort of make sense in time.

Who do you think is in the coffin?

****SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE 2nd EP*****

I did! As if it wasn't confusing enough, they go and add 4 new characters to the mix

I know!

What a very interesting group of individuals that were assembled, a physicist, an archeologist, a ghost hunter, and a pilot???

What does it all mean ?!?!?

And even more interesting, the archeologist finds that thing with a Dharma initiative logo/emblem on a dig in Tunesia??

Green12 Enthusiast
Who do you think is in the coffin?

Hmmm, well at the funeral home, or whatever that place was, the guy asks Jack if the departed was "friend or family", and Jack says neither.

I'm wondering if it isn't Ben?

I don't know if Jack would have that response about any of the other survivors, even if he was at odds with some of them from time to time. But I could be wrong....

Maybe it is Locke? Or someone else that turns out to be not who we all think they are.

I think it could be anyone really, I guess at this time I really don't have a feel for a possibility.

Do you have any theories??

 I'm quoting you again!

I saw the interview this morning--I thought he was so cute and charming, too. I've always hated his character on Lost, so I guess that makes him a great actor! :D

Looking forward to the episode tonight!

Ok, so last week's ep....I have been avoiding posting about it because I couldn't quite wrap my brain around what all was revealed, and didn't really know what to say

I guess Sayid is another one of the Oceanic 6  (along with Charlie, Kate, and Hurley, and we assume the person in the coffin makes #5??)

When they showed who his boss was at the end :o , I didn't see that coming at all. Creepy.

Something is weird with Naomi and Sayid, he kept looking at her body funny and was giving her an awful lot of attention.

I saw Terry O'Quinn (Locke) on The View this morning, he has such a twinkle in his eyes, so cute!

All he could say was "Jacob" so I guess we will find more out about this mysterious person, or whatever he is.

OMG - after last week's episode, I was thinking of just fully breakup up with Lost. I have utterly NO idea what is going on.......and when things are THAT confusing they just aren't even.....fun any more.

anybody? help? any other theories to add to Julie's?

any other theories to add to Julie's?

You are so sweet, I didn't really add much of anything to begin with

I think what is shaping up to happen is we are going to find out about what exactly the island is and why exactly they all came to be there. I believe that is the purpose of the 4 new characters, or at least three of them (the archeologist, the physicist, and the ghost whisperer). Each of these 3 I believe hold the key to some of ther main mysteries on the island.

Did that help a little?

jerseyangel Proficient

I'm with you two girls on this last episode. I couldn't watch on Thursday night, so we didn't watch till Saturday--and I was more confused after than before

There was a connection between Naomi and Sayid's "girlfriend"--they had identical bracelets.

Not that I have any idea of what that means B)

Green12 Enthusiast

I can't believe it's already Thursday, and you know what that means...another new episode of Lost and most likely even more confusion

Julie.........Thanks to you I caught the 2 bracelets tonight. Sure didn't put that together the first time i watched it. Do you guys discuss it on Fridays or are there still people who haven't seen it yet? Was hoping to get some more tips when i watch it as I added it to my DVD list. My head was spinning by 9:00 and have the 'attention span of a gnat'

I've been watching lost since the first episode but last season my attention drifted a bit so I might have missed some stuff. And I didn't go back and read all 14 pages of this thread, I hate then they get so long, I just don't have that much time.

I hope we find out more stuff this short season cuz I'm tired of being "Lost".

So because of the continual reference to the Oceanic 6 (or is it 8, LOL) not everyone makes it off the island, but we know now that Kate, Jack, Hurley and Aaron do. So who else do you think gets off.

My feeling is the others don't die, they choose to stay, certainly Sawyer does, he's already made that clear. Claire must die cuz she would never give up Aaron. And because in the court case last night Jack said that only 6 of them survived the crash and we know that's not true so I'm betting a whole lot of people elect to stay on the island.

What else do we know?

That was Patti that mentioned the bracelets, she deserves all the credit  I only noticed Sayid was acting strange around Naomi's body, but Patti cued in on the bracelets, I didn't even remember Desmond's gluten-free (Penny) had one too

You are not alone, my head was spinning too

When Richard was here he always got the conversation going, he was really good at that. Also he always found all the spoiler links and Lost factoids

Susan, Sayid is also one of the Oceanic 6. Kate, Jack, Hurley, Sayid, and the person who died and is in the coffin, and I assume Aaron, makes 6.

But I am wondering if they count Aaron in the "6" since he was born on the island? So there could be another unknown.....That was kind of creepy at the end when she was holding Aaron. Why is she passing off Aaron as her son, yet another mystery??

Also, we know Ben made it off the island, so there could be others from the island who were not on the plane who make it off like Desmond or Julliet for example.

I also thought I heard Kate mention at trial "8 survived the crash"

I think you are right Susan, that the other survivors decided to stay and some probably didn't make it. They obviously made up a detailed scenario of what happened, which we know isn't how it actually all went down, and the fact that they put the plane in the ocean to make everyone believe there were only 6 (or 8) survivors.....the rest of them, if they are alive, want everyone to believe they died in the crash and don't want to be found.

I'm afraid it's going to keep going like this, little clues will be revealed slowly only to leave us with more questions.

I can't recall where I read it, but Lost was a completely planned out (start to finish) project that is guaranteed to run I think 6 seasons (???). The creators never planned for it to go on and on, or as long as it is popular. The have definite plans about when which secrets will be revealed.

No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.
    • SilkieFairy
Thank you both for the replies. I decided to bring back gluten so I can do the blood test. Today is Day #2 of the Challenge. Yesterday I had about 3 slices of whole wheat bread and I woke up with urgent diarrhea this morning. It was orange, sandy and had the distinctive smell that I did not have when I was briefly gluten free. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the brain fog is back and I feel very tired.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
