Well Tom, the proposed house looks great to me.

I think you'd be horrified by (not just our teef) how close and such small property we live in in London (or any highly populated town in England)

Wow - DE- TACHED!! ....I could only dream!

Hello Sillies (she says in a weak voice)- Miss you guys but have been too fatigued to even be online (now is that UNIMAGINABLE or what?).

No Carla- It's not because I've been getting "busy" :P The only thing I've been "busy" doing is sleeping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I wanted a drive by giggle.

I see our dingo has diappeared-o!!!!!! I can't IMAGINE why :rolleyes::lol:

Bev, good to see you back. :) If it weren't for my laptop, you wouldn't have seen much of me on bad days, either.

Tom, house looks great. We have 8 people living under one roof ... any house for one seems very spacious! ;) That house would rent for about $850 around here ... can't imagine how much it will be in CA! And we're in a high-rent area because of school districts.

Dingo's went camping. Hope to hear some good campfire stories. :P

Bev,

Gosh, I wish those nasty buggers would "blink" so you could begin to turn a corner :( Let me know what the doctor says--hopefully he can adjust something to make this easier on you.

I'm waiting with baited breath to hear how Susie's weekend camping trip went :P

To get a house, I'll have a roommate. Luckily he's a bit of a neatnik - the other guy at apt was the slob - and already agreed to even keep cologne in the car!

The slob was full-time SJ, while John is gone on biz 3wks/mo.

House ad:

Close to downtown Willow Glen...Two bedrooms plus a separate den or study or 3rd bedroom. One full bath plus an indoor laundry room with 1/2 bath. Large living room, separate dining room, and spacious kitchen looks out to large deck, grass area, and garden. Two-car detached garage with opener. Comes with a gardener...

$2k/mo

I hoped it would work, but John says bedrms too damn small. :(

These "with gardener" ones make me wonder if I can tip them into doing herbs & vegs for me!!!! Or at least leaving ones alone that I try to grow. It'd be a 1st.

It was only a couple blocks from where I last lived in SJ, so I already know the pros/cons and that the pros easily win, location-wise.

Willow Glen has a touch of Mayberry in it.

Hey Dingy!! You ever been there near Christmas? Quite a sight. :)

Heehee Goose, Bev's sarcasm slipped right by, huh? (It is a tough one to get across online w/out a special sarcasm emoticon. We should propose one. Jin or Susie could draw it up!!):)

2k!!! :o:lol: I knew it would be significantly more!

We were selling our old house and someone was very interested. I looked up their house in CA that was listed for the same as ours was. Ours had 19 acres, an acre and a half stocked pond, 4 bedrooms, three and a half baths, really nice kitchen, full basement, etc.

Theirs was a 3 brm./1 bath, tiny yard, tiny house.

Amazing that the prices can vary so much.

Sorry the roommate doesn't like it. The location sounded great ... you can make some sacrifices to have a good location.

These "with gardener" ones make me wonder ...

Maybe it's just a guy named "Gardiner" who lives in the shed out back.

Could just be the guy who owns the place and lives there ... so you end up with two roommates ... and since he lives there for free, he cuts the grass.

 and PLEEZE, run like hell if you see a giant deep freezer anywhere on the premises, that is PRECISELY where they hide the body parts.:lol:

well HALLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo sillies!!! I am back, but I am absolutely beat. I was not taking into consideration the bad back w/ the thermarest pad....I will definitely need something much more comfy than that to ever camp again. :( am in pretty serious pain today and have taken second muscle relaxant, am about to take second Naproxen for the day.

The weekend was glorious, absolutely perfect weather, sailing, eating, drinking good wine, dingo-wrangling. dear friends were there and after sailing we laughed into the night over homemade roasted marshmallows (yup, I made 'em  ) about the silliest of things. The dogs were dream girls, and there were yellow dogs in all the campsites around us....Rocky was a bigger and nearly identical version of Stinker - - I"ll post his pic. Both girls were SWOONING over him. We had a HUGE campsite to ourselves, with plenty of wilderness around it for the girls to romp. Um, Stinker, however, is like a senile convalescent patient that you have to keep an eye on.....she is about 50% deaf and pretty confused, wandered off several times in her happy little mountain reverie, tail-wagging smile and all.

and that is ALL I am going to say about my weekend for now ;) but - - lest you get all crazy and titillated and overexcited - - please know that it was very wholesome. Not kidding. Sheesh. Get your dirty dingo minds out of the gutter, wouldja? harrumph.:P

For now, I am spinached to the couch.....we stayed a third night and I think that was a mistake for my back AND my brain.......not enough good sleep and I am RUBBISH.

more tomorrow.

I don't suppose you remember what part of CA. Could be Bay Area.

My buddy John talked to one guy in Willow Glen doing a short-term rental who was going to sell afterwards. John thought guessing "close to a mil" was overestimating slightly, but it was going to list for $1.9M !!!!!:huh::blink::huh::blink::huh:

Our little Willow Glen neighborhood is rightfully higher than most of SJ. Lotta very nice med-Lg houses, but lotta those little ones too. The house in my pic elsewhere in SJ could rent for $1500 or even $1300.

Maybe it's just a guy named "Gardiner" who lives in the shed out back.

 LOL Jess, that must be Chauncey!!

:lol: out-of-the-blue silly and macabre at once! (See any bloody rubber hatchets in the woods?)

LOL over the weekend, my future roommate, John is checking out a vacant rental (the one w/ lemon tree) and I'm on the ph w/ him. He's saying there's the regular backyard, then a fence and more backyard w/ more trees and an incinerator!!.

Seconds later, his phone goes dead.

A minute later, I txt "are you being dragged to the incinerator?"

Some houses have no need for a place to *hide* the parts!

Sails of glory & everything sounds so good!! (The wrangling is iffy)

"Homemade marshmallows" still sounds like some cross betw an oxymoron and a non-sequiter to me. <_<:)

Hoooboy I'll feel like I'm blogging if I say any more than scratched surface on my day.

Talked & laughed 30-40min w/ a Michelle I just met. Was sure it should continue over drink or dinner @ next door Caffe Boa or sushi next to that. <buzzer> boyfriend.

She did give kudos for my asking, and conversation continued.

Coffeehouse tonight - I'm heading out but this cello/piano duo starts playing and I get chills just 2 1/2 measures in. I stay for 2+ hrs. Still had goosebumps an hour later. Got to sit closer to cello than HE was to his piano-playing brother. (Actually they switch instr every song!!)

Great kids - talked to them quite a while.

I wasn't a real classical fan and they're asking ME to pick betw Schubert & Tchaikovsky for the last song!!

****What should I have said?****

I'm certainly now at least a fan of sitting NEXT TO a cello being masterfully played. Intense and beautiful and a zillion other superlatives.

I honestly don't remember. Someone else ended up buying that house. Our house was in the middle of nowhere, so it was inexpensive even for out here. It was 5 miles from the nearest stoplight, then another five miles to the next one.

It was outside Bloomington, IN ... you'd LOVE that place, Tom. Music, music, music. Many little independent restaurants ... one - Nick's- even has a meal called "the Kate" named after a woman on this board. Just so long as the chef is there, you can just order "the Kate" and it will be free of about everything because Kate is sensitive to everything. Plus, there's a Cheeseburger in Paradise that has a gluten-free menu and Mojitos, live music, too!

We own a couple rentals ... both are three brm/one bath ... they are small, can't remember the sq. footage, maybe 1000. We get 850-925 for them (one is nicer than the other). One was under $100k when we bought it, the other was just over.

For a million, you are in an ostentatious mansion. I'd rather spread that million over a bunch of properties that generate income. :) Well, I'd also have to, LOL.

 LOL Jess, that must be Chauncey!!

I thought of that, too, but didn't know if anyone else would get it. LOL I'll change avatars ... see if you recognize the house.

British Terrorism Alert System Update

Hello Everyone,

This is an important update of the Terrorism Alert System as operating in England and the European countries...

Please forward in order to inform all interested parties.

The following message has been cleared for circulation by the Joint Intelligence Committee, and approved by Downing Street. It is not intended to alarm anyone, and Downing Street would like to apologise to anyone who gets even slightly worried as a result of reading it.

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon, though, security levels may be raised again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been categorised as "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies were all but exhausted. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance". The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was during the Great Fire of 1666.

never, nope, not one bit did I care about the Pretenders' albums, any of them...

got glutened. first time in months. it was a questionable nut bar, thank God I didn't take them camping. Had to RUN out of TJ MAxx just now - - dear gawd. trapped near toilet for a bit.

Camping w/ us was one of my best friends in all the world, friend from high school and her husbnad. Her name is Karen, but I have always called her Karenly, not sure why but the -ly suffix as we know makes it an adverb, meaning "in a Karen manner." they are a hoot, we laughed our arses off whilst sailing and I kept doing a Homer Simpson scream (the lake was savage with wind) from glee, didn't know I was doing it but they said I sounded like Homer (I have never actually watched an entire Simpsons episode or any parts thereof, really).

ugh........signing off.

Just not in winter.

Oooh! Ooh! A "Close Encounter of the R'ville Kind" there would suit some well.

Jin could go maybe!

Dingy has mojitos.

A round of "Kate's" & gluten-free menus and live music for all!!

LOL  THIS Friday's ceRk countdown is on.

Let's convince Susie to go and bring her guitar. :)<heheheh>

Good thing. You wouldn't have wanted to have gotten stuck in Phoenix over a woman!

Oh no no a 1000x NO!!

That's just not possible. :)

Even tho Michelle looked great (not model great, just regular great) w/out makeup or the dreaded glutenous lipstick! (ya ya ya, gettin way ahead of myself. . . . .it's just that "Mr Jones and Me look into the future") Ahhh slipping into fun conv was too easy w/ her . . . .

Nikki ! Where would "A Tad Shirty" slide in?

P.S. Jess, I've always admired your short & sweet sig.

never, nope, not one bit did I care about the Pretenders' albums, any of them...

Oh please, I knew *you* and your gluten-contaminated dingo self weren't ready for the bleeding edge of raucous rockin' of '80-'81,:P but was asking if anyone WAS into them then. Wayyyy before they went Middle of the Road.

I'm hoping for a couple!

("Not me baby, I'm too Precious . ." should've been the single, not Brass in Pocket)

..... but I have always called her Karenly, not sure why . . . .

 here's to old friends w/ nicknames of forgotten origin!! <clink>

*Never* seen an entire Simpsons? Doesn't that prompt a citizenship inquiry?

I remember the 1st ones, before they even had their own show, and who I watched them with. They were shorts, as part of The Tracey Ullman Show.

NNNNNOOOO - why? ... I am far too young

I was only 11yrs in 1980 ...but hubby (who's a bit older) did fancy Chrissie Hynde

we laughed our arses off whilst sailing and I kept doing a Homer Simpson scream (the lake was savage with wind) from glee, didn't know I was doing it but they said I sounded like Homer

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
    • Scott Adams
I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
