Emily . . . Happy Birthday . . . Hope you have some great plans for today. :D

Where were you last nigt? I thought I would see you swoop in for the last second post. Now you will have to wait another 100 pages . . .

Amanda, sure hope Lucky gets along with your new yeti. I know you slept in your tiara last night and you have a death grip on your new sceptor. Keep in mind if you damage them in any way during your reign, you will have to use your own money (probably from people giving you money at your wedding hoping you will buy a nice juicer) to have it repaired. And don't let the yeti get ahold of it. He will use the sceptor as a chew toy. Yeti teeth marks on the sceptor are not acceptable.

Tom . . . GE Aircraft Engines (don't worry, I worked mostly military projects so the safety of the general public is still intact, well . . . as much as it ever was I guess) and Ford and Rolls Royce (not cars, jet engines again)

You guys inspire and incite me... :):):)

A Thousand Thank Yous for noting my birthday. I'm so glad I have young kids, otherwise I would just grumble my way through the rest of them, trying to ignore the relentless passage of time. Cannot do that with children--they put HUGE circles around it on every calendar, force DH to arrange a big dinner, and on and on. I wish I had a deep, resonating quote about the passage of time, and how somehow poignant and beautiful that is. But nope, got nothin'. Will be seeing my dad today, and if he is still in Dalai persona, he will have something for me.

I cannot believe you crazies were online till the wee, WEE (read: not Nikki's wee) hours last night! The Fair Queen Amanda--you have a great deal on your plate now, but as your royal subjects, we're here to do your bidding. Your name means "much loved", so a perfect coronation. As I was reading through the posts, and got closer and closer to page 300, the tension and suspense were electric.

Off to do birthday things....

"I could while away the hours,

And smell the pretty flowers....

Happy Birthday Emily!!!!!

Good Morning All! Boy the wind was strong here last night.

I believe Lucky will be ok with the Yeti as long as the Yeti pays attention to him. Lucky is a people cat, I actually think he needs people interaction or he gets loony.

You can be one of my princesses and back-up queen in case I cannot serve. I will need someone to watch the kingdom the next two weekends. I must get married the next and the one after I will be honeymooning.

OMG wth am I doing waking up @ FIVE!! ^_^

I musta missed replying to this while off looking for those old pointy bell-enhanced slippers!

Take special care of your pointy belled slippers . . . Moves can be rough on your most precious items. Maybe they shouldn't be packed away. Maybe they should go in the car with your other special items like the photo of all of us together except for BEV who left me out of that last party, and then tried to cover it up by implying I didn't remember being there . . . not like I'm trying to get even or anything. <_< . . .:lol:

Now I happily have on jammies and soft socks, and I'm watching John Carpenter's The Fog. :D

Sarah Sarah Sarah <shakes head> . . . .this may sound harsh but it's for your own good. (Adrian Monk would say "You'll thank me later")

Upstairs we go .. . ... .it's time to let go of the nostalgia and properly dispose of all your hard socks.

Oooooooooo! LOUD and Powerful has some sort of instinctual appeal for the male human, and probably male Yetis too.

Ever see one blow up in testing?

Reminds me of my couple yrs at UL, where we'd have to see what it took to make a product become unsafe.

I had crowds gather while making portable bathtub-type jacuzzi units burst into flame. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! (Not 'wee')

Sure they're rated for 120V, but the fun really starts at over 250V, when you make the motor seize. (Is it cease? Gah it's early!)

To wee in the jacuzzi is definitely a no-no. Especially when you have crowds gathered.

One leads to the other, doesn't it?

Never saw a jet engine blow up in person, but I didn't have too much to do with testing. Only had an occassional test to sit in on and when everything goes as planned, it's usually quite boring. I did get to crawl up the tail pipe of a B1 Bomber though, I can still hear my boss saying "Janet, you're wearing jeans, crawl up there and see if you can see any damage." And me thinking, nobody's in the cockpit are they . . . who has the keys to this thing?

Oh...I knew I forgot someone :( :( :( (I was trying to back pedal) so I must humbly ask your forgiveness. I could blame it on Lyme, or being blonde (ah...but I'm not blonde) so I bow before you as former Queen Bev and ask you to forgive me. In fact, you should be the Royal Court Party Planner so it NEVER happens again. I knew I should have just forgot Richard 'cuz he's always painting something :P

As the former Queen, and now princess (I think, right?) LET'S PLAN A BIG 'OL PARTY!

After Queen Amanda comes back from honeymoon of course- wait, don't we have to go on her honeymoon as her ladies in waiting????????????

RIGHT YOU ARE, TOM! Gawd, how could I have made this error?? Actually, it's worse than that: I made TWO errors....Bert Lahr did NOT sing those lines. Ray Bolger did. It's the age thing! Not as sharp, memories blurring...stupid birthdays!

I'm afraid there's no denyin',

I'm just a dandelion,

A fate I don't deserve,(or desoive),

I'd be brave as a blizzard,

(Tin Man) I'd be gentle as a lizard,

Beautiful stuff! Nobody writes 'em like that anymore...This is my happy place. :):)

And a BEAUTIFUL poem, Bev! That is a GREAT birthday present.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
