Ps-I set the Yeti on the train to visit with Patti today. He was hoping to visit more friends in the states and canada. Anyone offering him a place to lay his head?

Yep, you're right...the verb "hit" here is in the simple past tense, and is also in the passive voice. This combination is a pain in the @ss to teach; actually, the passive voice generally is confusing when modifying. Sentences are active when the subject performs an action. They are passive when the subject receives an action or is the result if an action. The passive is used when we are unsure of the subject of a verb, when the subject is obvious or when it is not important:

This house was built in 1930.

My mail is delivered at noon.

It is also used when you want to sound formal or impersonal (announcements, rules, signs)...All passengers are asked to remain seated, All fees must be paid at registration, etc.

We have someone named "not me" living in our house .... any time I ask the kids who did something, all six of them will answer, "not me". I've yet to see this seventh child and am thankful that not much food is eaten by him.

I have successfully made a plum polenta cake!!!!!!!!!!

...oh the excitement!!!!.....and who knew about polenta?? :blink: (I didn't :lol: )

Yes--he has arrived (thanks Amanda.... :unsure: )

He is wearing an old flannel shirt of Mark's--it's pretty cold and windy here today. The bikini is in the wash--it really needed a good cleaning--as did the old guy himself...

Where is the giant hot tub when ya need it???? He's practically busting out of the shower :lol:

Ok--he's good here for the week, after that I'll put him on a bus....who can take him then? Nikki--if you want him, we can get him to the airport. ;) Better get out and stock up on food--he gets grumpy when he gets hungry :o

Whatever you do, don't send him down here! My house is so tiny, I don't think he'd fit- especially with the Christmas tree up. :rolleyes:

BTW, how are everyone's pets? Lilo barfed in her crate last night- too much turkey? I was cleaning up dog puke at midnight. Maybe it's not the pet curse, but the never-ending-500th-post-body-fluids curse! <_<

I have no clue. In honors English class in middle school I had a note card taped in the front of my notebook that listed what a subject, verb, adverb, noun, pronoun, direct object, and an indirect object were. Ask me to edit your paper for problems and I'm fine. Ask me to diagram a sentence and I'd rather die.

Yep, that's passive. In addition to the reasons Emily gave for the existence of passive, you can add -- so that English teachers can tell you to change it to the active voice because passive voice makes for a boring paper since there is no one doing any of the action.

Actually, we took Allo to the vet on Saturday...he's having a little trouble adjusting to the new house (we think) and peeing in inappropriate places :angry:

They did testing, including an x-ray, and he has a pretty bad case of arthritis in his back. It was obvious even to us when we saw the x-ray.

The vet couldn't believe he was 16, though! The first thing he said to us was--he's not really 16, is he?

So, we've added litter boxes upstairs to make it easier for him. :)

I am quite fond of polenta. However, having trouble wrapping my dingo-brain around polenta with plums. :huh: What kind of plums? REal plums, off a tree? or canned plums, that you mash up? :lol: Do plums come in cans, in the US? has anyone ever seen that? In my life there has never been a plum desert.

Funny you should ask. Yesterday, there were TWO spots/drops/desposits of poop in the living room carpet. :huh: I nearly barfed (I know, more fluids to clean!).....I think Stinker carried one of the "lumps" in on her foot, or something......and the other one was just liquid......oh dear gaaaaaaaaaaawd........that she crapped in the house.

So, just four or five weeks after last carpet shampooing, I'll be renting the shampooer again.

HARRUMPHFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG- Allo is 16????? That's wild- he looks just like my first kitty- Popcorn. She was gray and white with a little half mustache and she lived to 18. The day before she went to kitty heaven she jumped up on the dining table and tried to steal the Christmas turkey. BEST kitty ever! I used to throw her over my shoulder and walk around the house with her purring!

Not that I've had to clean up. The boarding kennel owner tells me that she peed in her kennel when we boarded her over Thanksgiving. That's why we pay them the big bucks - to clean up her dog wee. I'm not sure why she does that. We don't have any problems at home. I wonder if it's because the inside kennel (concrete floor) looks just like the outside dog run (concrete floor) so to her the whole place is a big dog toilet!

You know, if the Yeti is yeasty, he can't go near Tom. If the Yeti turns yellow (as in a yellow yeasty Yeti), either he or Tom should probably leave the country. If you recall from Jess' original post, Tom was allergic to all three.

How wild was that Grey Cup win on Sunday night? Amazing...down to the last minute...Oh, right. I'm speaking to Americans....Alex, did you watch the game?

Yeah, definitely! We had my dad and brother over for a mini Grey Cup party. Although I have to embarrassingly admit that I fell asleep during the middle part. Not bored, just tired. -_- I made Earl Grey tea for the occasion :ph34r: (although I know it is a different Earl Grey).

I do prefer the CFL to the NFL, but college beats both for me.

Well .. . .. .despite being pretty tall & having quite a reach, I *AM* having some trouble w/ the top area of my patio storage closet. It's 9 or 10 feet up!!

He could be quite handy for a few days.

And, we DO have a giant hot tub & Olympic-size pool here! (As long as I lend him my access fob, no one will mistake him for an unshaven & homeless former pro wrestler. We surely don't want a repeat of the Haystacks Calhoun incident!! <don't ask> )

And to toss in a fun personal note - I had to get a new car stereo & Fry's had an awesome one for only $57 (!!) which plays C.D-R/RW mp3s!!!!!!

I just bumped into a single disc containing a noteworthy variety - Patsy Cline :o, Led Zeppelin ;), Jimmy Cliff ^_^, Sinatra B), Goodbye Yellow Slick Toad errrrr Brick Road album, 2 versions of Ave Maria (Charlotte Church & Jewel), an Oakland funk band, 2 bands I used to play w/ (3rd wave ska & Motown cover) etc . . .. .

OMG- Allo is 16?????

He's on Glucosimine and Condroitin for his arthritis...capsules that I open and sprinkle over his food. It's tuna and chicken flavored :P

You know, if the Yeti is yeasty, he can't go near Tom. If the Yeti turns yellow (as in a yellow yeasty Yeti), either he or Tom should probably leave the country.

Oh! ....a yellow yeasty yeti...the poor beast. He's got liver issues, now? :o

      I did ... But aren't we going to be vitamin deficienct if we are not eating due to being sick ?? If the food we eat is gluten free and we have other sensitivities , how do we get out of the cycle??  Thank you

      Anyone else get pins and needles. ??? Burning feeling ? Heat makes it so much worse 😔  Winter is here.  I had to lower my thermostat because I couldn't take that hot air feeling 😔  Hopefully it goes away soon

      I assume that you already know that genetic testing for celiac disease cannot be used to confirm a celiac diagnosis. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. It can be used to rule out celiac disease with a high degree of confidence, however, in the case where the genetic testing is negative for the genes. Until and unless you are actually diagnosed with celiac disease I would not raise this as an issue with family. However, if you are diagnosed with celiac disease through blood antibody testing and/or endoscopy with positive biopsy I would suggest you encourage first degree relatives to also purse testing because there is a significant chance (somewhere betwee 10% and almost 50%, depending on which studies you reference) that they will also have or will develop active celiac disease. Often, there are symptoms are absent or very minor until damage to the small bowel lining or other body systems becomes significant so be prepared that they may blow you off. We call this "silent celiac disease".

      If you were off gluten for two months that would have been long enough to invalidate the celiac blood antibody testing. Many people make the same mistake. They experiment with the gluten free diet before seeking formal testing. Once you remove gluten from the diet the antibodies stop being produced and those that are already in circulation begin to be removed and often drop below detectable levels. To pursue valid testing for celiac disease you would need to resume gluten consumption equivalent to the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread daily for at least two weeks, preferably longer. These are the most recent guidelines for the "gluten challenge". Without formal testing there is no way to distinguish between celiac disease and gluten sensitivity since their symptoms overlap. However, celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that damages the small bowel lining, not true of gluten sensitivity. There is no test available for gluten sensitivity so celiac disease must first be ruled out. By the way, elevated liver enzymes was what led to my celiac diagnosis almost 25 years ago.

      Then it does not seem to me that a gluten-related disorder is at the heart of your problems, unless that is, you have refractory celiac disease. But you did not answer my question about how long you had been eating gluten free before you had the blood antibody test for celiac disease done.
