You must hate cats .... we lived out in the country and the coyotes ate all our cats .... it was difficult keeping cats to keep down the rodent population ... but it was always open season on coyotes. :) There was a pack that lived near our house .... we had all 19 acres fenced in to protect the kids from them.

We have had coyote problems here the past few years, getting worse. They do go after the pets, and even the horses. (We don't have horses, but many neighbors do.) Luckily a couple of our neighbors got a bunch of donkeys, so that has helped a lot around our place.

Donkeys scare the crap out of coyotes, and will even attack them. I don't know why, and didn't quite believe it at first, but it turns out it's true!

Have lost EVERY shred of mojo I ever had. This time, it's pretty serious. Back on antidepressants, full dosage......not the low maintenance dose I take - which is every three days or so.

Am I STILL bipolar? :( Sorry - - tale for another thread.

Lots of love    and big (((HUGS!!!))) Susie. Let the medicine do it's job, stick with your healthy foods, and try not to stress about the labels and categories of what's wrong right now.

PS- You can always post stuff on my Ezra Thread, if you don't feel like starting a new one. I need to update it, he's doing really well!

OMG - there is almost nothing better than the sound of coyotes in teh distance.........

I have to admit, I agree! Though I can't admit it to anyone around here. It's a beautiful sound, and eerie...

Oh gosh- no! Not cat and kid eating coyotes! I like them at a distance too! Although I met a pack in Death Valley that I really liked. was walking out of the campground store and almost had to share my ice cream with one :o

But I like the sound of them in the distant woods....fisher cats and mountain lions at a MUCH further distance.

 I know what you mean! I don't want them up in my yard, but they really are beautiful animals. Supposedly there are a few big cats around here, too... but I'm still undecided as to whether I believe that one. My mother-in-law swears that she's seen one.

Every once in awhile we hear strange noises out in the woods and we try to figure out what beastie we're hearing...

speaking of funny noises....I think we have a ghost at our house...I know the cat has been acting strange hissing and jumping at the wall for no reason...I look for bugs and nothing....

Ghosts I tell ya!

Add me to the dissenter's list . . . grew up in rural Illinois . . . too many problems with coyotes to like them. Although a baby anything is pretty cute. I think baby alligators are cute but not so much the big ones. I live in a pretty citified place now and someone in our neighborhood ('bout a block and a half away) had a dog that was attacked and lived but ripped up pretty good. We had several attacks (about a mile away) a little over a year ago - mostly cats and little dogs - and most did not make it.

Hugs and well wishes for everyone who's feeling blue, mojo-less, under the weather and such. Speaking of weather (how was that for a segue), they reported that we got about four inches of snow last night. I look out and see maybe two . . . conclusion? . . . must have been a male meteorologist. ;)

I know we got snow today, there is a covering out there. It looks like its not sticking on the roads but I hear they are slick. The commute home will be so much fun. This is the first snow of the season which might impact traffic.....crazy's will be out!!!

Tom do you have a name for you avatar yet?

D'oh!! Were we supposed to be naming our avs all this time??

The odd little growl when I had the tape measure near parts he wanted protected, but nothing else...

:rolleyes::lol:

"Odd little growl"? *snort* puh-leeeze! It sounded like a bit of a moan to me, followed by what sounded like a very long outstretched arm locking the door!!

Donkeys scare the crap out of coyotes, ...

 why does that crack me up?

What a wacky discontinuity in the food chain! Who would've guessed?

Amanda, I totally think animals see things that we can't! Do you live in an old house???

Good luck braving the mess, Amanda! Around here, they close the schools if it flurries!

.... of course, I laugh, but I'm a big wimp when it comes to driving in snow. I used to not mind snows, just ice. But when I was pregnant with Ez, I was driving home from work one night in the snow, and was totally traumatized.

Ran off the road (a mountain road, switchbacks, etc,) there was a pileup, multiple wrecks, people standing all over the place in the dark (no streetlights out there and NO cell-phone service.) An eighteen-wheeler fishtailed, sliding down the hill, hit several cars (including a cop car and a plow,) nearly ran a bunch of people down, everyone running and screaming, jumping over the guardrails, etc.

At least I had my Mom with me, lol. She and Dad carpooled at the time, and saw me on their way home. Mom jumped out- Dad never totally stopped the car, he would've gotten stuck too. As soon as he got home he called a tow truck for me. When the tow truck eventually got there, I thought the crowd was going to jump him! But he walked around calling out my name, "Sarah, your Daddy called me!"

*shudder* I hole up when it snows now! We don't have enough plows and trucks to handle bad weather, because we don't get it often. So when we do, it's chaos.

OKAY! I need to go recover from reliving that event.

Whoa, Sarah! What a nightmare...

Just forked out for some brand-new snowtires, and I really needed to hear your story, because I'm not complaining about the expense any more!

MOJO FINDING EXPERIMENT

Okay, this is a bizarre piece-together from assorted scientific data, and the gist is this:

Substance P is a response to pain.

Substance P is also involved in mood (negatively).

theory: Removal of free substance P will elevate mood.

Experiment:

Eat a lot of spicy food. You'll send all your substance P to your gut, remove it from your neurons, and elevate your mood.

Expected results:

1. No physiological change in substance P, but mood is elevated because you've just eaten fabulous spicy food.

2. Substance P is removed from neurons. Mood is elevated because of decrease in free substance P.

Gah.....

Jess, you may have once again provided us with a post-halter. This has a whiff of syllogism to it, which makes me askeert. I am left with one intriguing question: What the hell is substance P? Peroxide? Pineapple juice? Pee? I know my mood is markedly elevated when these substances are removed from my gut.

Hehe you Pooh-bahtically Grand grammarians just don't like to embrace the scientific or mathematical concept of the unknown variable, do you? ;)

We don't need to know what substance P is to run a successful experiment. :P

Personally, I'd have to question the part of the hypothesis seemingly suggesting a direct relationship between spicy food & gut pain. :o

Welcome to the forum, @Mmoc! Please include the reference ranges for the IGA and the TTG tests in your next post if you have access to them. We cannot comment much otherwise as different labs use different reference ranges for these tests and also different units of measurement. There are no universal standards as of yet so the raw test numbers are not always helpful. Having said that, if your IGA (what we usually call "total IGA") is low, the TTG-IGA score will be skewed and cannot be trusted. Other kinds of tests for celiac disease would need to be run, particularly those in the IGG family of tests. Perhaps this will be helpful:

Hi there any advice welcomed. I have had 4 years of symptoms ranging from immune related anaphylactic symptom sudden onset food allergy to peppers/paprika/chilli/capsicum family derivatives. all these allergies fizzled out and following a food challenge test in hospital I reintroduced them a few months ago. Since then my digestive system is a mess. i have since noticed that 4 years ago when testing for iga allergies my iga level was .62 and my ttg was less than .1 (due to symptoms I was probably eating very plainly at that time). should I insist on being retested for celiac? I’ve since read two indicators for celiac include: sensitive to spicy foods when in flare up tooth enamel weakness and symmetrical discolouration patches on teeth which I have had since childhood on my two front teeth     thanks

This article does not address migraines at all.  Yes, red wine and sulfites are often mentioned in connection with migraine triggers. With me, any kind of alcoholic beverage in very modest amounts will reliably produce a migraine. Nitrous oxide generators, which are vaso dialators, also will give me migraines reliably. So, I think most of my migraines are tied to fluctuations vascular tension and blood flow to the brain. That's why the sumatriptan works so well. It is a vaso constrictor.

Excessive dietary tyrosine can cause problems.  Everything in moderation.   Sulfites can also trigger migraines. Sulfites are found in fermented, pickled and aged foods, like cheese.  Sulfites cause a high histamine release.  High histamine levels are found in migraine.  Following a low histamine diet like the low histamine Autoimmune Protocol diet, a Paleo diet, helps immensely.    Sulfites and other migraine trigger foods can cause changes in the gut microbiome.  These bad bacteria can increase the incidence of migraines, increasing histamine and inflammation leading to increased gut permeability (leaky gut), SIBO, and higher systemic inflammation.   A Ketogenic diet can reduce the incidence of migraine.  A Paleo diet like the AIP diet, that restricts carbohydrates (like from starchy vegetables) becomes a ketogenic diet.  This diet also changes the microbiome, eliminating the bad bacteria and SIBO that cause an increase in histamine, inflammation and migraine.  Fewer bad bacteria reduces inflammation, lowers migraine frequency, and improves leaky gut. Since I started following the low histamine ketogenic AIP paleo diet, I rarely get migraine.  Yes, I do eat carbs occasionally now, rice or potato, but still no migraines.  Feed your body right, feed your intestinal bacteria right, you'll feel better.  Good intestinal bacteria actually make your mental health better, too.  I had to decide to change my diet drastically in order to feel better all the time, not just to satisfy my taste buds.  I chose to eat so I would feel better all the time.  I do like dark chocolate (a migraine trigger), but now I can indulge occasionally without a migraine after.   Microbiota alterations are related to migraine food triggers and inflammatory markers in chronic migraine patients with medication overuse headache https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11546420/
    • trents
Then we would need to cut out all meat and fish as they are richer sources of tyrosine than nuts and cheese. Something else about certain tyrosine rich foods must be the actual culprit.
