Yesterday it snowed, then it turned to rain .... now it's frozen and flurries. Not that pretty, just cold and wet.

Tom must have had a good date, he never checked in.

Congrats on the hubby not smoking!!!

Well, we didn't get as much snow overnight as I was expecting, but it is coming down steadily. It is expected to snow all day, but stop sometime this evening. Monday morning traffic in Toronto will be a mess, and we have about 15 miles to travel to get to the store. :(

My friends little boy's birthday is on New Years day - everyone's partied out!! :( (there is something grammatically wrong about that sentence - but can't work it out....Emily????)

Just one niggling thing--probably a typo--friends is possessive...ah! But singular possessive, or plural? How many friends have this little boy? :huh:

GAAAAHHHH! My apologies to you all. Who needs this silly correcting? Unnecessary, unfunny, probably quite pretentious...and I will stop. Anyways, sometimes I don't even know what the hell I'm talking about. :lol::lol:

Better leave really early tomorrow, Peter. That DVP and the 401 are at a crawl during rush hour even in the finest weather... :angry:

It is blizzard-like, here. Truly. I cannot believe I drove to the gym this morning...could only see about twenty feet in front of me. Crazy Canucks....

I do feel a tad sorry for kids whose birthday fall during 'the holiday' season (Hee - hee, I used an Americanism)

Although the really keen would have jogged through the blizzard to the gym ;)

But seriously, be careful out there!!!!!

Well...we're not quite that crazy.... :rolleyes:

However, outside it is TRULY crazy. Snow squalls, whiteouts, stormwinds, six-feet high snowdrifts....Hmmm...don't have an appropriate emoticon for this spot. (!)

Okay, cannot find the Twister game. Don't know how many kids are coming. Six? None? Those who have a long way to drive will likely opt out, but you'd think I would have heard from them by now. So....four large pizzas, a big gluten-free birthday cake, streamers, balloons, chips and punch....and it may be me, DH and Jack. Even DD won't be here.

To quote form Tom..."Partaaaaaayyyy"....(not)... :(

So John and I ventured outside to take some pretty pictures. We walk out to find a tree had lost its limbs and fell onto his car....it looks like there is no damage but we will have to wait until the ice melts to see if there any scratches.

:huh: well this is a sad state of affairs, isn't it?! Perhaps postponement?

:o oh my gosh!

I have no weather stories to compare! Sunny and cold here......rain tomorrow (keeping fingers crossed!)

My neck is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better today! The dingos and I are heading over to grandma's (my mom's) to hang out and watch FOOD PORN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:lol::lol:

Well, I am the last person to correct anyone as my grammar is crap . . . but shouldn't it be New Year's day.

I just couldn't resist! :lol::lol:

We've got ice and not as much snow as they thought. However, it's suppose to get windy and reak havoc with the trees that are already stressed from the ice. Not sure when that's suppose to happen - maybe I've already missed it.

The Christmas letter is done! Thank God!!!! Most cards have been addressed and signed and stuffed with said letter!!! Now, time to start shopping. . . actually, we are almost done with that but we need to review the spreadsheet (yes, we use an excel spreadsheet to keep track of who is giving what and how much has been spent) and fill in the gaps!

Oh and a comment for Tom and his nitpickiness . . . Spin it Tom!!! It's called "Attention to Detail". Looks good on the resume.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I may wrap some gifts today. Our work Christmas party is tomorrow.

elye Community Regular

Okay, things are acceptable....Three kids have made it (whether their parents will get back here at 6:30 to pick them up, dunno...could have a spontaneous sleepover), and they are watching The Last Mimsy. I was duly informed that "Mom..we're a little old for Twister, dontcha think?" Complete with eye-rolling. Hell, times have changed. We were playing well into our teens, and through university. Semi-clothed...balancing beer bottles as we twisted...yes, a different time (and life!)... :o:rolleyes:

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I thought you never OUTGREW Twister?????

Poor Emily, we need to come over and show those kids to party!!!!

CarlaB Enthusiast

Well, since they can't drink beer and don't like the other sex yet, perhaps they're in that disinterested stage as far as Twister goes. ;)

Where's Tom? We still don't have a date report!

elye Community Regular

OMG.... :lol::lol:

I emailed my bro this morning, and mentioned the fact that Jack's party may be a bust. I jokingly asked if he had any fantastically simple, entertaining game ideas for a bunch of 10 year-olds, should we be stranded in house. Here's his response:

Astound your audience with this simple, but amazingly effective card trick.

Using an ordinary deck of cards, ask someone to choose any 51 out of the pack, look at them all and then replace them anywhere in the deck. You then place all the cards face-up on a table and then simply point to each of the 51 cards selected.

Secret: While your friend is memorizing the 51 cards selected, you glance at the rest of the pack.

:lol::lol:

Maybe Tom is too "worn" out to talk to us today.

Tom, you are only allowed to talk to us if you quit smoking ...

:(

Is THAT what happened to you???? Since when do you take what I say seriously? Did you get "soy-ed" last night?

BTW, I meant, you weren't allowed to take cigarette breaks to talk to us .... you can do the talking to us part, but not the cigarette part ...

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I like Carla's rule!!

Well, if we were in-person talking, the no-smoking rule would be seriously enforced! OMGosh, I can't breathe around cigarette smoke! You could smoke a cigar though, that doesn't seem to bother me as bad.

:lol: (since when is such a question viable on the sillythread!? :wacko: ) tho I did have the seedlings of a bit about The King's Consigliere. Guess I'll crumple THAT plane of thought and toss it towards the rubbish bin :P:lol:

Just been busy. Not busy busy - just hanging out w/ John & guitars & NFL. It makes for a good day. :lol:

Learned John Prine's "Long Monday". Not all the fingerpicking, but enough to do it. <damn arm will never stop hurting w/ all the pattin'-self-on-back!!>

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I made John smoke outside and would not let him light up in my car. I cannot do cigarette smoke.

So, how was your date?

I've been naughty .... we get lots of Esther Price (www.estherprice.com) because Adam sends it out to customers .... it's a local candy (all but one piece is gluten-free) .... it's WAY better than Godiva! Only REAL butter is used for these chocolates! I've been eating them every day. :ph34r: And I have no intention of stopping until after the holidays!

      plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

      i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

      Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗

      I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again
    • trents
      You may also need to supplement with B12 as this vitamin is also involved in iron assimilation and is often deficient in long-term undiagnosed celiac disease.
