I've thought about this too. Maybe in person we'd sit there and look at each other like this

Na--I think the ice would be broken pretty quick :D

Yeah, the first time somebody farted.

Which reminds me, will there be bubble bath in this hot tub?? :P

Well.......as Patti has succinctly pointed out, we won't need it....Particularly if Nikki's there, with her banned substance!

I think it would be great if we all met. We would laugh for hours. Think about it, we have one thing in common and we started a friendship on the celiac/gluten free thing...look how far we have come. I love having you guys as friends, whenever I have a bad day or I see something about celiac and yeti's and stuff I think about our fun here.

As for the parade, I would really like if we could maybe have Bon Jovi singing on a float....He is very hot!

Since I am doing PR for Wegmans, I have borrowed my other hottie, Danny for our parade too. He says he will bring gluten-free goodies!

Hi Jules-so-hungry .. ... . .are you nibbling while whilst reading this?

Hey everybody, I would like for you to meet Julie . . . she's a loser (of cookbooks)

Susie, I often find myself wondering this. Everyone who's coming to the Mt. Tremblant chalet, best to bring a laptop, and if we're sitting around the crackling fire or lounging in the hot tub, and the laughs just are not coming...well, we simply start typing, and passing our screens to whomever we're posting. If we practise ahead of time, I'm certain we can all make reasonable facsimiles of the emoticons with our own faces. I'll need to work on a few....Gad, dunno how close I can get to this one: ^_^ Or this guy:

gahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Yes, laptop on standby in case there's just a room of us, blank-faced and mute

(not bloody likely - give just me, for example, two glasses of wine and I cackle madly and my voice escalates - just ask everyone around me )

Think of all the energy that would be saved with all us Celiacs in there together  Wouldn't even need to plug it in B)

But wait. According to our recent Fart Chartage, we seem to have a deArth of flatus in our group. With the exception of nicola, of course, who doth Fart for England.

I mean, I"ve only had three today....and many days there are ZERO.

We'll need champagne.

As for the parade, I would really like if we could maybe have Bon Jovi singing on a float....He is very hot!

Absolutely. I am not a fan of his music, but I am DEEPLY in love wif him. Major hottie. And BACK OFF girls, he is MINE. :P

  • the parade

  • linguistic differences among the USA, Canada and the UK
  • and one or two jokes along the way

OMG, Julie......

You have been warned about me....

Let's see...Did you miss anything?....Don't get me started....

I've learned to stay calm in my welcoming demeanor....

Entrance exam to follow.

Just one initial query: How many times did you pass gas today? Were you ingesting any banned substance(s) to affect this result (Benefibre, psyllium seed, etc.)?

Hey!! Reminds me of someone else's Sillyville start - who was it that got a shard of Tostito in her eye despite allegedly-protective eyewear?

Which reminds me, hey Tom, please keep your eyes/ears open for ANY casting calls in San Jose area........I've got free lodging and have simply GOT to do one more important film for my career.

There WAS a casting call a few months ago held at my FAV coffee house - yes, in Willow Glen, across the street from that purveyor of the candy-bar-in-a-cup, Charbucks. (Hey, try it black - tastes burnt ~every time)

Strange train of thought this morning led to ballpark peanuts. If you had a bag of peanuts-in-the-shell and a friend asked "can I have one? I only want one" - discounting those lonely mutant singles - they'd get 'one' but it actually is TWO nuts.

That's my wake-up-fart, avec companion. Do I count it as one or as two?????????????????

Yesterday, I kept wondering if I was truly at zero or do they simply garner no attention?

I'm not sure I can keep a running total, but I'll say I'm at 4 or 5 so far today.

"What a difference a day diet makes"

So there's my 2 scents on the Fart Chart.

First - two Donnas, Now - two Julies . . . another crises!!!

Hey, did you guys miss me?? Had a quick trip to the basement for a short tornado warning. Bad weather rippin' through. We were in the 50's about a half hour ago. Now we're in the high 30's and dropping fast.

Lest we forget, Peter -

Fart Charting is now required by all participants. Edict # 1230298430957290187301298123233, passed by unanimous vote. ;)

 what in hell...........

sometimes, farts are just entirely necessary.......for ex. in the first year of gluten removal, I seemed to be intolerant of flax seeds. Yet, I would still occasionally binge  on Trader Joe's Soy Flax Seed Tortilla Chips. (OMG OMG OMG OMG they are SO good - not allowed in my house any more.) So..........next day, there could be an extremely painful, hard, BALL OF GAS in my stomach which DEMANDED to be released (often at that wicked art store where I worked). Hence, that night's emissions were.........mygawd. Like an over-filled tire - quite necessary to release the pressure.

Yours, Tom, are simply perhaps ancillary in nature, like that second peanut.

I cannot beLEEVE we actually talk about these things/analyze in such great detail, and how much EXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORBItant pleasure I derive.........

....and people still want to join us?

*snort*

(only the truly mad, to be sure)

Yes - Sarah's Tostito entrance was MARVELOUS

I am going to send.......well, I WOULD send Annie after her, but she won't go alone........ (gawd, we miss Tika :( )

Anway <ewww> I was told that <ewww> a cucumber she'd used uhhhhhh <ewwww> recreationally was later used in the salad!!! EWWWWWWWWW!!

LOL Emily @ facial emoti-contortions!!!!

Oh!! Jooooo-lee, you must be prepared to answer to any and all foe-neddik spellin's of your gneighm. :D:P

All of this wedding parade talk is exciting! Much more fun than planning an actual wedding I think.

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with my heart pounding and my mind swirling with guest list issues. Ack. I want a wedding planner! It seems so much more real now that we set a date. Is it weird to only have a maid of honour and a best man and no others in the wedding party? So many things to figure out!

Yes, between Mango and Colleen's wicked boss, we have seen her in ages and as far as Donna#2 goes . . . Emily, what did you do?

Not to worry basement is decked out. We watched the news (weather radar) and then the kids started playing with their Wii (not to be confused with their wee).

Welcome Julie- you haven't missed a (sane) thing at all! You can jump right in

We've booked a HUGE, rustic, lovely chalet/condo for our skiing/falling trip in the Laurentians. There is room for twelve in this place, and we'll be nine total, so a bunch of you can come and crash on the couches. Huge, outdoor hot tub, games room with pool table, huge stone fireplace, 50" satellite TV, enormous kitchen, four baths.....

I'm coming too!!!!!!!!!!! But don't tell the aliens. They might follow me  I showed it to my nurse today and she said it's clearly self-inflicted which makes me wonder....are we so attached that when Patti's itchy, do I scratch? When Nikki farts, do I excuse myself?

OMG - mammogram today. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! smash my poor, wee boobies into metal places........... Egregious, as we all know.

Ugh! The gramming of the mammies!!!!!!!

Our hospital has issued an internal disaster meaning that due to a large volume of accident victims and trauma's coming in our ER needs help. So traumas are coming from other hospitals, we are a level 3 trauma center so we can get the worst of the worst. So they are triaging in the hall and stuff down that way...its a zoo!

Amanda- Hope you survived the day.

Yup, sure we believe you, Ms. Machine Gun :P

Can someone American vote for him please???.....is he into politics??? :D

OMG- Uncle ray for president!!!!!!!!!!!

And when you pass gas for England by all means curtsey at the end too...and remember to excuse your bum! Be polite about it LOL

Gah!

Desperately need a vitamin D supplement. I've reacted to most brands I've tried.

Been off this forum for years. Is it that important that you get an official diagnosis of something? It appears like you had a trigger (wheat, gluten, whatever) and removing it has resolved your symptom. I can't speak for you, but I had known what my trigger was (gluten) years before my diagnosis I would just stay gluten-free and get on with my symptom free condition. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago and have been symptom free only excluding wheat, rye and barley. I tolerate all naturally gluten free whole foods including things like beans which actually helps to form the stools.
    • trents
No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.
    • SilkieFairy
Thank you both for the replies. I decided to bring back gluten so I can do the blood test. Today is Day #2 of the Challenge. Yesterday I had about 3 slices of whole wheat bread and I woke up with urgent diarrhea this morning. It was orange, sandy and had the distinctive smell that I did not have when I was briefly gluten free. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the brain fog is back and I feel very tired.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
