I could use a happy liver, maybe mine will be inspired by your rendering here!

Yay Nikki, glad your boy is home safe and sound!!

I am sure it will take some time to adjust post-Disney

Hi Phataum--Are you on your way back? If so, how was it? :)

I saw it was Richard's b-day and wanted to see if he popped in ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICHARD!

Gee, it is quiet here today.

Regarding the Toronto transit strike, the Legislature met in emergency session at 1:30 today and unanimously passed the back-to-work bill, and at 2:45 it was signed into law by the Lt-Governor. Service began resuming a little after five, and most service is running now. The Monday morning commute will be as normal as it ever is. :o

(For those who may wonder, in Canada the Lieutenant Governor of a province represents Her Majesty in that province--there is no Governor. There is a Governor-General who represents the Crown to the federal government and to Canada as a whole.)

Happy birthday, Richard, if you are here. If not, we are all celebrating our founder's birthday in absentia.

Carry on!

Happy Birthday Richard!!!! Wish you could be with all your favorite sillies!

We spent the day celebrating Russian Easter with John's family.

Landen is not with us tonight, he is with his grandparents who came in from Michigan! They haven't seen him in months.

Morning Sillies....I hope you like dark dreary rainy monday's cause that is what we have on tap! I struggled to get out of bed and then out of the house....and its chilly too! Blah Monday!!!!!!

How is everyone doing this morning?

elye Community Regular

Good Morning, Sillies.....

I am pleased that it was as quiet as it was here yesterday, as I was so busy that I would have had a lot more to catch up on. You know how you rush about like an idiot, multitasking and then doing one big job right after another, and then suddenly think, "Okay! NOW I can throw myself on a deck chair and read some of the paper before I need to start supper"....and you look at the clock, at it's 5:30? Gawd...that was me.

A very important, culminating appointment for Sophie today at the prosthedontist (maker of dental veneers, caps, implants, etc.) She had a horrific accident in September 2004 at her school. The story is enough to make one need to sit down - - it's that bad, and long, so perhaps I shall tell it when I've got the time to sit here and type. Anyways, the school was liable and we have a big insurance claim underway, and this may be one of the final specialist appointments and work to be done. To the tune of $$$$$$$$$$$......... :(

(For those who may wonder, in Canada the Lieutenant Governor of a province represents Her Majesty in that province--there is no Governor. There is a Governor-General who represents the Crown to the federal government and to Canada as a whole.)

Oracle Peter, thank you for this. I'm a good Canuck, but have never quite understood all of our bureaucratic positions, their respective jobs, and frankly, their necessity. The good Queen has all sorts of individuals representing her, doesn't she? No wonder she hardly ever comes over here...she doesn't need to! Do we have a Royal Representative municipally, as well? I am certain the position is there....gad, we have representatives of The Oskwegee Sump Pump Coalition er sumfin', so the Queen must be represented somehow...

jerseyangel Proficient

Oh Emily--sounds terrible, what happened to Sophie :( I take it she's ok now, though, right? I'm happy for you both that she's nearing the end of her specialist appointments and the work she has had done. Poor thing--sounds like she's really been through a lot.

And...what are we????The Bobsy twins??? I had a day yesterday that I could have described the same way! Looked up and it was like 6:30! Got lots done and even had a nice visit our oldest :D All in all a good day :)

Mtndog Collaborator

Hallo Sillies!!!!!!!!!! It seems like weeks  With my brain, it probably has been. I'm not feeling very funny these days.....de-pressed. :( And my right hand, which I know is NOT, feels broken. It's one of the worst pains I've ever felt. I am sure it is some wackl Lyme bacteria but good God............I need absinthe STAT!!!!!!!!!

OK- on the brighter side I am fostering a wee love bug named Sadie (see new avatar). She is so sweet and she and Angus are madly in love! They kiss constantly. It's good as Kurt is leaving for New Orleans (Jazz Fest) on Wednesday for 6 days.

Hi Bev :D

Good to hear from you--but not that you're feeling so yucky :(

Sadie's so cute! Aw--she and Angus are in  Yep--you ought to have your hands full with them while Kurt's gone, so hopefully the time will go by fast :)

I want someone I know to adopt her so Angus can still have his girlfriend!!!!!!

Bev!! What a beeeeeooooootiful dog Sadie is.....Mygawd, how on earth will you be able to give her away? It would be SO tough for me to be doggie foster-mom. I would just keep them all, and have twenty three dogs at the end of a year. <_<

Hope you're feeling better soon, Bev.

Sillies, my coworkers sister won the Cash 5 lottery here in PA on Friday 378,000.

WOW! I never win ANYTHING........

Well, Sophie's appointment went well, just more paper to add to the already huge file on her accident that we'll be presenting to the school board fairly soon...

In September '04, during the first week of school, Sophie, then 12, was outside for her gym class. This day was 94 degrees and blisteringly humid. They were doing football drills. Sophie asked to go in and get water, and the teacher said no, they'd be all going in shortly. Sophie asked again ten minutes later, and was again not let in to get water. Finally, they all were told to head inside. Sophie rushed in to the water fountain, by this time dying of thirst and weak, and there was already a big lineup at the fountain. She asked the teacher if she could go to the fountain down the hallway, and the teacher said, "No. Stay in this line, please".

And that's all Sophie remembers.

She woke up on the floor, blood everywhere. She'd passed out due to a sudden blood-pressure drop, due to lack of hydration. Her four front teeth were completely smashed in and hanging. The braces she'd just had put on, fortunately, kept her teeth from being all over the floor.

I got called, and went to the school. No ambulance had been called. Just me.

So, the story meanders on from there, but she's had all the teeth reset, splinted, filed down and root canalled. We're now getting estimates on what can be expected in years to come, because the claim can only continue for five years.

:(:( My poor kid. But she's been AMAZING through it all. SO brave, it's astonishing. Thank gawd, because I've often been a mess.....

Not Sillyville stuff AT ALL!

We need to hear from Susie and her meeting with Kissey Familials....and Ptaoughmn's road trip....and Janet's flying squirrels!

WTH!! I say we start flinging flying squirrels at that teacher.

The kids' production of H.S. Musical was too too cute & spending time w/ Teresa & the girls was long overdue.

They moved 3yrs ago but it comes to mind all the time that I wish they all still lived here.

So who's the Queen's representative here??? Would that be Nikki? Nikki, what have you been telling her about us?

I would think that Sillyville's Monarchal Representative is whoever the current Monarch is. Who in hell IS it right now....?....Did Patti in fact usurp the Silly it had been, whom I cannot presently remember? Was it Jess? Sarah? Crap.....

We never solved that two-page discrepancy...Actually, perhaps we should ask Queen Elizabeth II how she would handle the problem were it to transpire within the Windsor dynasty. We'll let her rule it. Nikki, could you drop a line to Liz and ask her what her course of action would be if two pages of her Royal Life were censored, and her life's dates were all moved back, and someone else consequently had rights to the throne...it's a toughie - - she may need a few days.

WOW!!!! Unbelievable . . . glad Sophie's been doing well with it. If you would have left them all out, it probably would have done wonders for her hockey career!!! Talk about intimidating!!

I hear you....intimidating for approaching hockey players. And potential boyfriends.

After 800 posts according to rumour, you can experience strange after effects. I don't think it will be itching burning or swelling symptoms, as to me that sounds far too much like gluten poisoning. It has to be something that strengthens the character, as to post that many posts means someone is quite tenacious and determined.

 Yes, we are tenacious sillies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, since my cover has been blown . . . here is the real picture of me and Bev and Panera's. Thanks to Bev and Carla for keeping my secret all this time but since Will the cat who is apparently crapping in my yard is out of the bag,I guess there is no longer a reason to carry on with the ruse.

ohhhhhhh..........ma............gawwwwwwwd..............  now THAT is too funny!!!!!!!!!! Janet is a complete nut........

These are really scary looking things, harmless, bite just a wee bit, but I always do a double take when I see them.

:o

a DOUBLE-TAKE?????????????????????? um.........that would give me nothing short of a heart attack, I assure you.........absolutely horrifying - biters or no - - just the way they LOOK - - <erase erase erase ERASE from brain>

OK - I shall stop boring you all now  .....much washing of clothes to do!!!!!

boring???????????? not a'tall, you nitwit!!!!!!!!!! I LURVE hearing how Alan has viewed our world through his eyes! warmed the cockles o' me 'eart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Glad he lurved it.........

Emily - OMG - Sophie's collapse at school - - :o

Simply horrifying........and they did not call an ambulance? ridiculous......glad this saga is almost over for her, but what a shame.

Amanda - can you get soem of that lottery money for a silly reunion?

OMG sillies - - exhausting weekend - lots of piano and furniture moving (we borrowed a truck and trailer) and a big hike on Sunday in hot weather - barbecue Friday night at Kissey's - - Susie is KNACKERED. Thank Gawd, Kissey has left for Arizona today, back Thursday, and I can sleep and recover. Weezee is so tuckered out - nary a peep from her. :)

Met David's sister on Saturday, it was quite a good visit. All went well, I kept my tourette's under control and practiced my inside voice.  We ate at a gluten-free bakery, and I have about $50 worth of their products, including four pizza crusts, in my freezer.

A bit nerve-shattering driving three hours home w/ an ORANGE piano on yer trailer (yes, they painted it orange-ish  ), but we did it.

Last night, I met mini-Kissey. He played his computer death-game the whole time. Um, he's 13 - that's what they do. So - that was okay also.

Sillies - I forgot what else - - I am sooooooooooooooooo tired - - hot weekend here and even in the Bay Area and - - - I suspect I"m slightly dehydrated.

More later sillies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICHARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi @Scatterbrain Thank you for your reply.   Some of these things could be weaknesses, also triggered by stress, which perhaps have come about as the result of long-term deficiencies which can take a long time to correct.   Some could be completely unrelated. If it is of help, I'll tell you some of the things that started in the first year or two, following my diagnosis - I pinned everything on coeliac disease, but it turns out I wasn't always right!  Dizziness, lightheaded - I was eventually diagnosed with cervical dizziness (worth googling, could be your issue too, also if you have neck pain?)  A few months after diagnosis I put my neck out slightly carrying my seven-year-old above my head, and never assigned any relevance to it as the pain at the time was severe but so short-lived that I'd forgotten the connection. Jaw pain - stress. Tinnitus - I think stress, but perhaps exacerbated by iron/vitamin deficiencies. Painful ribs and sacroiliac joints - no idea, bloating made the pain worse. It got really bad but then got better. Irregular heart rate - could be a coincidence but my sister (not a coeliac) and I both developed this temporarily after our second Astra Zeneca covid jabs.   Subsequent Pfizer jabs didn't affect us. Brain fog - a big thing for people with certain autoimmune issues but in my case I think possibly worse when my iron or B12 are low, but I have no proof of this. Insomnia - stress, menopause. So basically, it isn't always gluten.  It might be worth having your vitamins and mineral levels checked, and if you have deficiencies speak to your Dr about how better to address them?

@NanceK, I do have Hypersensitivity Type Four reaction to Sulfa drugs, a sulfa allergy.  Benfotiamine and other forms of Thiamine do not bother me at all.  There's sulfur in all kinds of Thiamine, yet our bodies must have it as an essential nutrient to make life sustaining enzymes.  The sulfur in thiamine is in a ring which does not trigger sulfa allergy like sulfites in a chain found in pharmaceuticals.  Doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition (nor chemistry in this case).  I studied Nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology.  I wanted to know what vitamins were doing inside the body.   Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Not feeling well after starting Benfotiamine is normal.  It's called the "thiamine paradox" and is equivalent to an engine backfiring if it's not been cranked up for a while.  Mine went away in about three days.  I took a B Complex, magnesium and added molybdenum for a few weeks. It's important to add a B Complex with all eight essential B vitamins. Supplementing just one B vitamin can cause lows in some of the others and result in feeling worse, too.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of all the B vitamins, not just thiamine.  You need all eight.  Thiamine forms including Benfotiamine interact with each of the other B vitamins in some way.  It's important to add a magnesium glycinate or chelate supplement as well.  Forms of Thiamine including Benfotiamine need magnesium to make those life sustaining enzymes.  (Don't use magnesium oxide.  It's not absorbed well.  It pulls water into the intestines and is used to relieve constipation.)   Molybdenum is a trace mineral that helps the body utilize forms of Thiamine.   Molybdenum supplements are available over the counter.  It's not unusual to be low in molybdenum if low in thiamine.   I do hope you will add the necessary supplements and try Benfotiamine again. Science-y Explanation of Thiamine Paradox: https://hormonesmatter.com/paradoxical-reactions-with-ttfd-the-glutathione-connection/#google_vignette

Your goal is not to be a good puppet, there is no gain in that. You might want to restart the ones that helped.  It sounds more like you are suffering from malnutrition.  Gluten free foods are not fortified with things like Thiamine (B1), vitamin D, Iodine, B1,2,3,5,6 and 12 as non-gluten free products are required to be. There is a Catch-22 here.  Malnutrition can cause SIBO, and SIBO can worsen malnutrition. Another possibility is side effects from any medication that are taking.  I was on Metformin 3 months before it turned me into a zombi.  I had crippling side effects from most of the BP meds tried on me, and Losartan has many of the side effects on me from my pre gluten free days. Because you have been gluten free, you can test and talk until you are blue in the face but all of your tests will be negative.  Without gluten, you will not create the antigen against gluten, no antigens to gluten, so no small intestine damage from the antigens.  You will need to do a gluten challange to test positive if you need an official diagnosis, and even then, no guaranty: 10 g of gluten per day for 6 weeks! Then a full panel of Celiac tests and biopsy. At a minimum consider vitamin D, Liquid Iodine (unless you have dermatitis herpetiformis and iodine exasperates the rash), and Liquid Geritol. Push for vitamin D testing and a consult with a nutritionist experienced with Celiack Disease.  Most blood tests don't indicate nutritional deficiencies.  Your thyroid tests can be perfect, yet not indicate iodine deficiency for example.  Thiamine   test fine, but not pick up on beriberi.  Vegans are often B12 deficient because meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy are the primary souces of B12. Here is what I take daily.  10,000 IU vitamin D3 750 mg g a b a [   ] 200 mg CoQ10 [   ] 100 mg DHEA [   ] 250 mg thiamine B1 [   ] 100 mg of B2 [   ] 500 mg B5 pantothenic acid [   ] 100 mg B6 [   ] 1000 micrograms B12 n [   ] 500 mg vitamin c [   ] 500 mg taurine [   ] 200 mg selenium

Hi…Just a note that if you have an allergy to sulfa it’s best not to take Benfotiamine. I bought a bottle and tried one without looking into it first and didn’t feel well.  I checked with my pharmacist and he said not to take it with a known sulfa allergy. I was really bummed because I thought it would help my energy level, but I was thankful I was given this info before taking more of it.

Hello @Scatterbrain, Are you getting enough vitamins and minerals.  Gluten free food is not fortified so you may be starting to run low on B vitamins and vitamin D.   By the way you should get your mom checked for celiac disease.  You got it from your mom or dad.  Some studies show that following a gluten-free diet can stabilize or improve symptoms of dementia.  I know that for the 63 years I was eating gluten I got dumber and dumber until I started GFD and vitamin replenishment and it began to reverse.  Thiamine can get used up in a week or two.  Symptoms can come and go with daily diet.  Symptoms of beriberi due to Thiamine deficiency.   Difficulty walking. Loss of feeling (sensation) in hands and feet. Loss of muscle function or paralysis of the lower legs. Mental confusion. Pain. Speech difficulties. Strange eye movements (nystagmus) Tingling. Any change in medications? Last March I had corotid artery surgery (90 % blockage), and I started taking Losartan for blood pressure, added to the Clonidine I was taking already.  I was not recovering well and many of my pre gluten free symptoms were back  I was getting worse.  At first I thought it was caused a reaction to the anesthesia from the surgery, but that should have improved after two weeks.  Doctor thought I was just being a wimp. After three months I talked to my doctor about a break from the Losartan to see if it was causing it. It had not made any difference in my bp.  Except for clonindine, all of the previous bp meds tried had not worked to lower bp and had crippling side effects. One, I could not stand up straight; one wobbly knees, another spayed feet.  Inguinal hernia from the Lisinopril cough.  Had I contiued on those, I was destined for a wheelchair or walker. She said the symptoms were not from Losartan so I continued taking it.  Two weeks later I did not have the strength in hips and thighs to get up from sitting on the floor (Help, I can't get up😨).  I stopped AMA (not recommended).  Without the Losartan, a) bp did not change, after the 72 hour withdrawal from Losartanon, on clonidine only and b) symptoms started going away.  Improvement started in 72 hours.  After six weeks they were gone and I am getting better.
