YaY Alex and Congrats!!!! Now don't you be telling us too much about the wedding night . . . you know how easily we're shocked and don't like to share information about ourselves!!!!

I'll be the first 'merican to ask . . . What is May 2-4? Some sort of drinking holiday? Get drunk then set off fireworks?? Sounds like a grand plan.

Mrs. Alex somethin' is back!!!!!!!! :) :)

Glad your day was that great. :)

Congrats!

So . . . I'm a righty with straight hair and I do like math. Spelling on the other hand has always been my nemesis.

Oh sure .. . .as she correctly spells nemisis nemesis.

One more in the Math column!! :D

And if I'm not back before the weekend, happy May 2-4 to my fellow Canadian sillies. Since we're all diabetic I guess none of us will be drinking a 2-4. Either of you doing fireworks?

Now THIS I gotta hear more about!!

It's a drink? A day? Not the 2nd thru the 4th? The 24th? No .. .that's not this wkend .. ...

Every holiday up here is a drinking holiday! The grandest of plans, to be sure..... :lol:B)

We celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday on the third Monday In May, and it makes up a three-day weekend. We call our cases of 24 beers a two-four, and this weekend is May two-four, even though there is no connection to beer, and it rarely falls on May 24th. Yeah I know.....Only in Canada......:lol:

I humbly bow before your royal presence -_-

ALEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! congratulations and glad you enjoyed it so much! I imagine that if I had a wedding day, I would find it very traumatic (center of attention and all that)...... Welcome back!

Jack's next query is most interesting: He wants to know who the most interesting character is when you google your own name.

Nothing too exciting when I google my name....a realtor, an author, an employee suing Pepsi. When I google my birth name I get a musician and an artist who does mostly silly cats. Now those are people I can relate to :D

When my mom was choosing a name for me before I was born, she liked the name of the Playboy centerfold :P for January of the year I was born. She had never before seen the name LISA. The only Lisa's I have met have been younger than me.

(wondering how old I am aren'tcha?)

Lisa!! You were named after a Playboy Centrefold Girl?! Wow...what a claim to fame!! ;)B):D

Tom and Susie sorry about your struggles and Laura on the new med, you guys must feel better soon!!!! And no Bev sighting?? I am afraid that means she isn't feeling so good either :(

I just got my allergy test results back and I'll have to totally change up my Edna :rolleyes:

Oh, and I googled my name, the most exciting thing that came up was a character in a mystery novel

on a serious note.............Sillies, I don't think my Effexor is working at all. :( wondering if I should switch.......

I know I'm new around here, but how long have you been on Effexor? My DD used to be on that....and several others at different times. Many of the ones she tried worked at first, but after a while became ineffective. She hated to keep changing and was sure nothing would ever work. She's been doing really well for over a year, but I don't know what it is she's been on. I'll have to ask.

BTW, what kind of jewelry do you make?

Morning Sillies....boy did the board have some spam last night!

Alex welcome back!!! details please!!!! I love weddings!!!!

I googled my name...eventually my work information comes up...

Morning, Sillies!

I went walking in a big, overgrown expanse of field near our house last night, and there is an active train track at one end. Trains rarely come by - - it's usually at night and we'll hear it's long, plaintive whistle (there is nothing like that sound) and the engine rumbling quietly....Anyways, last night I heard it coming in the distance. Well, you should have seen Elsie! I thought she would be terrified, as she is shy and gentle, but the train began to chug by in the distance and her ears perked up, she stared, and was gone! Racing full kilter after it like it was a huge metal rabbit. After I stopped laughing, and regarded Gus who was trotting happily in her wake, saying to himself, "for Gawd's sake...it's a bloody train! Save this for a groundhog", I yelled at her to come back, which she did. Promptly. Too phunny.... :D

I Googled my name, and came up empty

Patti! I'm so disappointed for you! By all means, take one of Ptaoughmn's...did he have any circus performers in his list?

WoW!! . . . I don't think my dog would.

Need to vent about my childrens for just a minute . . . my son gave me his cold . . . and do we have any Kleenex in the house?? Well, I thought we did!!! Instead, all the little stuffed animals, have beds, pillows, covers, capes, scarves, tents, you name it, they've got it and its made out of Kleenex!!!

Hi Sillies :D

Amanda--Yes, I did notice the spam from last night, there has actually been quite a bit the last few days.

Ha Emily.....I think I shall choose one of Ptaumn's for meself! I will peruse his and pick a good'un, I mean, since I can actually pick mine.....

on a serious note.............Sillies, I don't think my Effexor is working at all. :( wondering if I should switch.......but you know something? I loathe the idea of going to dr. to ask for something else, admitting defeat, thereby admitting that the gluten-free diet is NOT the complete cure for depression, as I have declared it is.....

but my thoughts and brain are so awful and dark, and I feel completely hollowed-out and dull beyond belief. :(

Susie, what dose are you on now? I was on 75 mg daily, and as you know I recently had to increase it. I'm at 150 mg daily now, and feeling much better. I had been on 150 before, and eventually dropped it down. I had been at 75 for about a year and a half.

I definitely think these things have to be adjusted every so often, whether it be dosage or trying something new!!!

Gotta run for now, but I'm going to Google myself later. (That almost sounds dirty.)

Amanda! You are about to make what perhaps could be judged a big flipover (4500)....Perhaps we get skin irritations at the smaller flipovers once we get high enough, and the fluid deluges at the thousand-marks. Susie, did you hit a 500-flipover when you went to the cabin? These rules could change throughout the duration of this thread, so we must be ready. Perhaps King Peter has been briefed on such matters....

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
