Sillies I just need to vent for a few minutes....I hope to not sour the silly moods.....

please offer some suggestions, anything at all.....

Amanda, I'm so sorry you're going through this!!! I don't have any answers, but I do have a few random thoughts...

John isn't taking Lyrica, is he? Because that stuff can have hideous side effects.

I can tell you that the medication I take (Effexor) causes me to have very little interest in bedroom activities. sigh.

Regularly choosing to go get fast food instead of eating the dinner you made would actually infuriate me...

Sitting around watching TV is not only unhealthy for your relationship, it's also unhealthy for him, physically.

Brian and I have gone through periods in our marriage where one of us wants nothing to do with the other. :( I'm not saying that's a good thing, and I'm not saying everyone has that. But we have, and we are still going strong!

Keep us updated, sweetie!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and hugs I am so glad I could get that off my chest, just getting it out that much helped too.

He is not on Lyrica, but I can tell you he had some bloodwork drawn and his Testostorone level is down to almost 0.....which is scary. I will keep you all updated on what unfolds.....

Hi Amanda,

OMGosh, I'm so very sorry you're having to go through this. The advice already given is really what I would say--the fact that his testosterone is at 0 is very telling, I think. Definately a discussion between the two of you is in order--and also between you both and his doctor--if John's comfortable with having you there.

I know that John had a very serious illness and possibly his treatment and the physical and emotional effects of all that are a factor, too.

Please know that you both are in my thoughts--like Ryan said, I'm glad you felt you could come here and get it all out--now hopefully you can do the same with John.

Amanda......Here is something I came across at a time when I needed it...hope it helps

Dear Lord,

I pray for Wisdom to understand my man,

Love to forgive him,

And Patience for his moods.

Because, Lord, if I pray for Strength,

I'll beat him to death.

Lack of testosterone will definitely affect John's libido. That is why he is not interested in having sex. It may be a factor in his lack of desire to do other things as well.

It doesn't offer any insight into why he would rather eat fast food out, so there are some other issues.

But I would focus on the testosterone level. That is a major physiological problem which is no doubt contributing to the emotional ones.

Yep! This has got to be a huge contributor to the lack of interest in sex. Low testosterone can make one's energy levels low, and adversely affects motivation and drive....could explain, to a degree, the parking in front of the TV.

Amanda, this must be agonizing for you. To be told to wait, that things will change and they never do, must be daily devastation. Are you comfortable getting counselling/therapy? With John would be ideal, but you should even consider going alone. Being in a forever relationship with someone who has been so sick and will likely be living with residual affects forever is a tough road to hoe. Seeking help is something I would think is expected in your challenging situation.

Talk to John! And talk to us whenever you need to....... :):):)

Ohhhhhhh the sillies were busy while I was slow-brained & stupid! (but at least not in unexplainable despair - hate that)

Uh-oh! Better post my catch-ups before the nba playoff game starts in minutes.

I'm testing corn right now by having good old-fashioned (primitive even?) stovetop-made popcorn!!!!! Yum! :) :)

More catching up later . .. .

MY WEE LI'L BOOBY HURTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some owies follow the ole chestnut, "kiss it & make it better".

Have Kisseyboy try that didja?

.. . It donned on me ...

This must be an Indiana thing. I'd only heard it dawned on me until Jin & now Janet. hmmmmmmm

This is about an amazing thing that happened tonight.

A truly remarkable event, n'est-ce pas?

:o

Hehe I would've had a lot of fun w/ that too!

1903!!!! :o

As Arnold said, "I'll be back."

Arnold says a lot of things. Last week it was "let's balance the state budget by planning to sell twice as many lottery tickets, then borrow against THAT!" (not kidding)

I knew Gary Coleman could've been as good as any other actor w/ no experience & little education.

<whatchoo talkin' 'bout, voters>

Gah!! Emileeeeeeeeeeeee!! You let me ramble on about Gary COLEman while a serious topic is What's Happ'nin'????!! :o

Amanda, sorry to hear of the situation.

I wonder if the fast food is to get a gluten 'fix'. I'm so quick to blame food for EVERYthing tho.

I'm reminded of someone else's thread I read some of. You've probably seen it but just in case . .. . Open Original Shared Link

Actually, I only saw part of page2, so I'm not even sure how it starts.

I'll let the married folk comment - I gots no beeswax weighing in.

Maybe it is time I do something with those flower seeds I have had for years. Do you think they will even be able to grow?

No idea where I read this or why I'd remember it, but I think you can check by putting a few between wet paper towels & seeing whether they sprout.

Weezee is clearly pheeling phabulous with her freshly-emptied anal glands.......frollicking around with her big-paw footsteps (the cutest thing).......

What DOES a wild dingo do about this? It's not why they routinely steal babies is it? Raising them to be enslaved as anal gland squeezers?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GNICKEIGH!!!!!

Hello my wackls, quite a phabulous day, the eccentric Gail allowed us to come to her yard sale - - quite something as she normally has to be really fixed up/coiffed/spackled to meet someone for the first time (had not met my Kissey yet).....and anywho, we have some treasures now.......then hung out at Miss G's mom's for quite a while.........a grand place to be.......quite the place for our silly reunion, methinks............ <scratching chin and devising plan>

AMANDA!!!!!!!! I'm glad you shared this with us, and so sorry you're in this place. The lack of testosterone is HUGE, for one thing, but John also sounds like he's in a big, serious depression. His issues need to be addressed FOR SURE, before any of your issues as a couple can be dealt with, I would think. And a BIG HUGE serious talk - or really, just a series of conversations between the two of you must happen. His illness was really so significant and serious - I"m thinking there are lingering factors and perhaps severely altered neurochemistry. It sounds to me like he may need meds in addition to what he's taking..........and maybe hormone therapy. I think you CAN get to the bottom of this! :) Hugs and prayers.........but I"ll tell ya what, the fast food thing? this would make ME furious also.......

Onomatopoeia was a spelling word in the 8th grade Grammar class this year :P

When I was in high school, we had a club called "The Itty Bitty Titty Committtee"

Also, when I gave birth to my first child and was recuperating in the hospital, the nurse chastised me for not wearing a support bra! All I could think was, "You're kidding me, right? Where in the hell would I find one of those? And what exactly would I be supporting?"

And BTW, ya'll are stuck with me :P The residents of Sillyville kinda grow on a person (must be all that phertilizer and phluids  )

Dear Everyone,

I missed you, too! I am so happy you enjoyed my poetry! Plus, tom even caught the humor behind the puns! ;) As far as the seeds go for the flowers, I believe tom's suggestion is worth a try.

We used that exact experiment in school two or three times. The worst that happens is nothing!

I did not get to tell you what happened the other day. Friday evening, I was taking my shower. Suddenly, there was this large crash. Our glass light orb that covers the lights in the bathroom fell off and bounced off of the marble counter, then onto the rug. It is a good thing that I had stayed in the shower a while, because had I gotten out earlier, it would have landed on me! :o

Luckily, my notebook was on the counter. It bounced off of the counter, onto the floor. The orb landed on the rug. This is probably why it did not break. Regardless, it scared the crap out of me. I have to say, the orb falling was odd, since it never has done that before. Dad probably did not put the cover on tight enough when he replaced the bulbs recently.

Dear Amanda,

I too, agree that low Testosterone is causing your husband's depression. Low hormone levels trigger many different physical and emotional symptoms. I know this is the cause of his difficulty. Going to an hormone specialist is a good idea. Other doctors do not know how to treat these issues as well.

Sincerely,

Jin

fluids so far are drool and snot. Max has a cold and Lefty just gt over one. little gobs of kitty mucus on my floor.

Lefty is a neck cat, must be in your face. Still much loose fur from the stressful journey, pthah. Max is a lap cat (at least now while he's sick). Despite the fact that they occupy different portions of my body, they do not care to share - get one or the other.

Lyle is furious and hurt. He's got the bedroom with the open window and me at night, other two have the rest of the house. Not exactly being mean to Lyle, this is where he always hung out anyway.

roommate likes the cuddle factor, does not like the fur. Skeptical of my pronouncement that it will get better. Perhaps will offer sticky roller to mollify.

'manda, dude! marriage sucks, except when it doesn't. Unfortunately you get both parts. You've always struck me as a person that doesn't hide from rough patches in life, I know you'll work your way through this one as well. You're doing the right thing, vent here, be constructive there

Jin! potty humor! excellent commode ode!

Ah Jess--I was anxious to hear how things were going....

Poor Lyle, so much has changed for the little guy in the past week. Cats are such creatures of habit that it'll take him a while to get used to all this--but he will and you'll all be a happy family living in harmony soon :)

Hope Max gets over his cold quickly--this is what they get for having a kitty-mom who's posting habits directly affects fluids for her and those around her. I guess they'd better get used to it

Welcome Lefty and Max to the Sillie family--can't wait for a picture :D

It seems like you have two choices--do a proper gluten challenge and get re-tested, or just go gluten-free because you already know that it is gluten that is causing your symptoms. In order to screen someone for celiac disease they need to be eating gluten daily, a lot of it--they usually recommend at least 2 slices of wheat bread daily for 6-8 weeks before a blood screening, and at least 2 weeks before an endoscopy (a colonoscopy is no used to diagnose celiac disease). Normally the blood panel is your first step, and if you have ANY positive results there for celiac disease the next step would be to take biopsies of your villi via an endoscopy given by a gastroenterologist.  More info on the blood tests and the gluten challenge beforehand is below: The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:   Not to discourage you from a formal diagnosis, but once you are diagnosed it may lead to higher life and medical insurance rates (things will be changing quickly in the USA with the ACA starting in 2026), as well as the need to disclose it on job applications. While I do think it's best to know for sure--especially because all of your first degree relatives should also get screened for it--I also want to disclose some negative possibilities around a formal diagnosis that you may want to also consider.
    • Wheatwacked
Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.
