Kids are done with school. Just got off the bus less than an hour ago. My daughter was crying because she's going to miss her teachers. . . I was crying, too, but for a different reason . . .

Janet! Your kids are done school? At the end of May? Mygawd....when does their school year start, early August er sumfin'? You want your kids in our schools up here....they attend until the end of June.. . .

I think we have a business for Peter to start up, if not simply for the potential name. King Peter, you must become involved in the manufacturing of dog treats made from bulls' genitalia, creating new, innovative shapes (fire hydrants, bones, cats) and flavours. Your product will be called, of course, PETER'S PIZZLES.:lol:

>Now whenever you have a bad day, ask yourself:

>Is this a jellyfish bad day?

 OMG....A swollen up bum for two days... .. .

Janet! School's out for summer!!! Any special plans to keep them busy??

Janet!! Hell, you'd best not get them involved in anything that involves horses, as you'll get them killed....:rolleyes::lol:

The Ripper's latest obsession is with the following website, which he checks constantly thoughout his time at home.. . .he now will pass me in the hallway or in the backyard and say, "12,043 bicycles mass produced in the last twenty minutes" or "Mom! In the last eight minutes, twenty-nine more people worldwide have been diagnosed with type one diabetes!"

He has asked me to share the World Clock experience with Sillyville.. ..he thinks it is the most fascinating thing he's ever seen... .. <_<

Best of all - and she even made a query about it - - the CROCK POT was on living room floor, near hallway, as I had just put it there to be walked back to hall closet, where it is stored (no room in tiny kitchen)............I laughed, doesn't EVERYone have a crockpot on their living room floor????????

Particularly bothersome in some cases where the opinion is formed over just a few weeks. <shakes head>

Hi Sillies...John is going to Orlando too which is nice. I have not plane traveled in over 10 yrs...last time was not a good experience so I am deathly dreading flying.

So we are going from the 29th-1st of July...which is short but the only thing I pay for is his plane ticket....my job pays the rest.

So now we are off to the casino, hope we win!!!

Wonderful news for both of you. I used to travel a lot because of work. I haven't been on a plane since 2005. That was for a business trip to California (Long Beach). I was never worried about the flight itself--the most dangerous part of the trip is the drive to the airport. But with all the b*lls**t about security the experience is at best unpleasant. Once you get past that and get on the plane, everything will be fine.

I said I traveled a lot. Too much. How do you know when you are spending too much time on airplanes? I goes something like this, as happened to me in, I think, 1993.

You are boarding an Air Canada flight from Los Angeles to Toronto. As you step from the jetway into the aircraft, the in-charge flight attendant says, "Good evening, Mr. Sawyer." He does this BEFORE you show him your boarding pass. You know that his name is Bob, without having to look at his name tag.

The miles pile up quickly when you are in a matrix-managed job with one boss in Montreal and another in San Diego. The pressure piles up too. I got out of that job in 1995, about the time my celiac disease was triggered.

Amanda, make this a special trip for you and John. Don't worry about the flights. Just have a darn good time.

I realized it is actually important to get an official diagnosis because then insurance can cover bone density testing and other lab work to see if any further damage has been done because of it. Also, if hospitalized for whatever reason, I have the right to gluten-free food if I am officially celiac. I guess it gives me some legal protections. Plus, I have 4 kids, and I really want to know. If I really do have it then they may have increased risk.
    • par18
Been off this forum for years. Is it that important that you get an official diagnosis of something? It appears like you had a trigger (wheat, gluten, whatever) and removing it has resolved your symptom. I can't speak for you, but I had known what my trigger was (gluten) years before my diagnosis I would just stay gluten-free and get on with my symptom free condition. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago and have been symptom free only excluding wheat, rye and barley. I tolerate all naturally gluten free whole foods including things like beans which actually helps to form the stools.
    • trents
No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.
    • SilkieFairy
Thank you both for the replies. I decided to bring back gluten so I can do the blood test. Today is Day #2 of the Challenge. Yesterday I had about 3 slices of whole wheat bread and I woke up with urgent diarrhea this morning. It was orange, sandy and had the distinctive smell that I did not have when I was briefly gluten free. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the brain fog is back and I feel very tired.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed.
