OMG... .. .just had a SUPERB question asked of me by who else, young Jack:

Whose cruel idea was it for the word "lisp" to have an "S" in it?!

:rolleyes::lol::rolleyes:

And where is Janet?

Oh I'm here . . . just a heinously busy day is all. I had my two kids and my friend's three kids and then one of the neighbor kids came to see if anyone could come out to play so I sent them all. Then a different neighbor's kids saw all the hub-bub and had to come over, too. So I had eight, ranging in age from 2 1/2 to 9. I also had a service guy for the A/C for about an hour and a half and then I had my handyman couple for the day doing some deck work (previously mentioned) . . . by the way, my relocated bird house now has the sounds of small peepings coming from it :D so I guess it did have eggs at the time of the move. Everyone's gone now except me and my daughter . . . son had a baseball game tonight and hubby took him.

Jess -:lol::lol: - too many favoUrites to list - they all seem to apply to me!!!!

SiouxZee - I got my daughter a chalk bag at yesterday's wall-climbing . . . with irridescent rainbow butterflies all over it!!! Who doesn't look good wearing one of those??!!?? So I got ask twice if she's been climbing for a long time because . . . 'she looks like a natural!!!' . . .:lol: . . . riiiiiggghhhht, it's the chalk bag!!!

:lol::lol:

Dang!!! He's a smart (gluten-free) cookie!!!

Which reminds me . . . I made cookies today for the sh!tload houseful of kids that I had here, today. When my friend came to pick up her kids, she had one and proceeded to tell me about one of our neighbors from the talent show/baby shower party from a couple of weeks ago. I had taken about a half dozen of gluten-free cupcakes since I knew there was going to be a "baby shower" cake. I labeled them gluten free so that my daughter knew which ones were OK. My friend's daughter was eating one and my neighbor remarked on how nasty (I'm paraphrasing) gluten free stuff was. My friend asked her if she had tried any of my stuff. She shuddered and said she couldn't bring herself to try it. . . Gawd, people are sooooo ignorant!! . . . Anyway, my friend (who has had plenty of my stuff - always wants to see how I compare :P in a good way) told her that she (the neighbor) would never had known if I hadn't put the post-it-note on the plate. I know it's a lost cause tho' . . . this particular neighbor is just too hard headed. Right after my daughter was diagnosed, I was trying to explain it to this neighbor and told her that my daughter could no longer have wheat bread and my neighbor responded with "Give her Wonder Bread"

Mtndog Collaborator

Give her WONDER BREAD??????????? Sounds like "Let her eat cake!" Dumb butt!!!!!!!!

Souczie!!!!!!You're back!!! :D:D:D

So happy you're doing a bit better!

My house smells really good right now :)

I'm happy you're feeling better too!!!!!!!!!! :D

Patti- can I come over for dinner? I'll bring dessert!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since we're talking about Edna's, I'd like to add that since April, I have lost 11 pounds...Sticking to mostly meat and veggies. Fibro is improving somewhat.....haven't tried Sven in a long time......except for my dancing. I know Sven is supposed to make you feel invigorated, but it does the opposite for me.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! 11 pounds is fanf&%ckingtastic!!!!!!!!!!!

Oy .. . . careful what you wish for. Phx has been mostly 100+F for weeks and will surely be over 112 for FAR longer than what seems humanly habitable.

I will NOT miss opening my door at 10 or 11pm and feeling like I've opened a pizza oven.

Daytime outdoor breathing could feel like my lungs were burning.

Verily I WOULD DIE!!!!!!! Their summer is like an Alaskan winter! My aunt lives in Mesa- I can't visit her after April!

Well, it has been an overcast day with rain for the afternoon drive time.

The forecast for tomorrow afternoon is a temperature of 31oC, or 87oF. But with the humidity factored in, it will feel like 42oC, or 108oF.

At least in Arizona it is dry, not 63% relative humidity, which is what we are expecting.

Not much silly here today, but no dead animal parts either. The last time a cat brought something in, Riley brought a live mouse into the house and let it loose. That was exciting. I think that was two summers ago.

The possible staff miracle I hinted at on Saturday did not develop to fruition, but some help is on the way. A new part-timer is starting training tomorrow. Her hours are somewhat limited since she has another job, but it will help.

Jan--there you are!

Wow, after the day you had, the silence must be deafening  All those chilen' and made cookies too! :o

Your "Wonder Bread" friend <_<

Funny how some people stick to their pre-conceived notions. At my dad's birthday party, we had a desert buffet and I made a gluten-free pecan pie--and I kid you not--it was the first desert to go! The only people who knew it was gluten-free were my sister and aunt.

Oh well, to the doubters I say--more for us!

Ahhhh . . . but read again . . . I never called her a friend. She is a neighboUr. She lives two houses down. We are on friendly terms but I don't consider her a friend. She is close-minded (can you believe it?) and extremely opinionated. A few summers ago, she found out that there was a gay couple living in the neighborhood . . . not even remotely close to her house . . . and she could just not get over it. You would have thought they were pedophiles or something.

Yowza!! . . . I'm really dissin' on her . . . I guess the story from my friend got under my skin more than I thought.

And back to reality....Dinner at your house tonight, Patti, sounds delicious!

Do any of you have Great Harvest bakeries near you? Ours makes gluten free bread 2x a month...I just picked mine up....so awesome.

Janet, HEINOUS neighboor. OMGosh, how rude! Well she is missing out, in more ways than one

I have no idea where in Philly it is (that is, I have the address, but have no idea if it's north, south, east or west....I know it's close to a lot of the touristy stuff), so I can call the concierge and ask where the nearest Starbucks is for us to meet. I can PM everyone who thinks they can make it when plans get more hammered down... .. we are in Philly for three nights - - July 8, 9 and 10.

Morning Sillies!

Em...I won't need the brain too much next week. How much thinking does one do at jury duty anyway?

The woman was at work yesterday and believe me there is much fuel on the fire yet...and not that I didn't expect that because lets face it once something like that comes out.....She was upset and mad again at that same girl since she still believes she has a higher title and she expressed that quite a bit yesterday.

I had my eval on Weds and I am so shocked....there was nothing but positive comments about me, not one negative thing. Besides the comments you get scored on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest. At our company when your overall score is 5-7.9 you are in the average category. She scored me so low, I just made a 5. If I was 2 points lower I wouldn't get a raise at all....that was very upsetting. Here I bust my butt and the woman next to me is not doing anything....and ouir boss could care less. It is nuts!

Anyway enough ranting I best start my work. Bye Sillies, more later!

curlyfries Contributor

It seems like you have two choices--do a proper gluten challenge and get re-tested, or just go gluten-free because you already know that it is gluten that is causing your symptoms. In order to screen someone for celiac disease they need to be eating gluten daily, a lot of it--they usually recommend at least 2 slices of wheat bread daily for 6-8 weeks before a blood screening, and at least 2 weeks before an endoscopy (a colonoscopy is no used to diagnose celiac disease). Normally the blood panel is your first step, and if you have ANY positive results there for celiac disease the next step would be to take biopsies of your villi via an endoscopy given by a gastroenterologist.  More info on the blood tests and the gluten challenge beforehand is below: The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:   Not to discourage you from a formal diagnosis, but once you are diagnosed it may lead to higher life and medical insurance rates (things will be changing quickly in the USA with the ACA starting in 2026), as well as the need to disclose it on job applications. While I do think it's best to know for sure--especially because all of your first degree relatives should also get screened for it--I also want to disclose some negative possibilities around a formal diagnosis that you may want to also consider.

Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you
