This latest was actually a lack of water...specifically hot water. The oil company we're contracted with guarantees that we never run out of heating oil....we ran out Sunday evening :huh::lol:

Omg, you have oil heat??? I SHUDDER to think how much that must cost in the winter. When I was in college, I lived in a big old house next to campus, and the oil bill was heinous!!! And that was split between 5 roommates, and it was almost 10 years ago. That was the house where Brian and I fell in love. :D The college has turned it into offices now. <_<

I only remember a tiny bit about the Challenger explosion... I was little, hehe. I'll never, ever forget where I was and everything that happened on 9/11, though.

My daughter played a piece called "Indian Rain Dance" for her piano recital about a week ago. It rained that night . . . she thinks she caused it. So yesterday, the piano tuner was here and she played it for her also . . . thus making it rain . . . again.

Well tell her to STOP!!!!! Hubby needs to do some tilling and it's waaayyy too soggy around here!!!! <_<:rolleyes:

Omg, you have oil heat??? I SHUDDER to think how much that must cost in the winter.

We just moved into this house last fall, and it has oil fueled hot water heat....it wasn't any more expensive than the gas heat at our former house. If anything, it averaged a bit less. :) This house is bigger, too.

I do expect an increase in the price per gallon this upcoming season, though <_<

Janet!! Keep your daughter on that piano! Tell her to pound away on that song like crazy!! We NEED rain here to get rid of this unbelievable humidity!

...Mygawd, now I cannot get "Indian Rain dance" out of my head. Jack played it at his first recital, and he used to practice every night, playing it over......and over... ..and over. ... :wacko:

Just reading along here and chortling........Emily - the socks - - :lol: :lol:

Got nothin' except - - there is a great winery 30 minutes away, David's wealthy boss owns it (among MANY other companies :huh: ) and we had dinner last night w/ the manager and her hubby, and the marketing director. They are looking for someone part-time to work there.........of course I would love it.

The clincher?? It's at least a 50-mile (maybe 60) round trip to work there, for not very much pay. :( I would probably barely break even, and might even lose money, with the gas expense.

so - that's my quandry, though I have in no way been offered the job yet, but I can't see why it wouldn't happen.

okay - wait - I've got it - I'll just go buy a new Prius today! There you go!

Sarah, do yall have a YMCA in your area or something like that? They usually have programs and activities and such for the youngins, low cost I think. Just a thought.

That's a great idea, Julie.. ...... .the YMCA's mandate is that everyone has access to it and its services, meaning that they subsidize memberships and family programs. I know of many low-income families here whose kids have gotten into some terrific summer day camps for next to nothing, as your payment is based on your income. You should check it out, Sarah, if there's one near enough to make it worth your while... :)

Well, we're off to meet Ryan's parents for some golf. Wish we could have joined them at the restaurant for supper too :( -- dang gluten :angry: ! But really, I'm thrilled to be healthy enough to be able to participate in sporting activities again. :)

I hope no one is getting hit too hard with those crazy storms going around. The thought of SOFTBALL sized hail scares me to death!

Golf!! OMG....I went out to the driving range this evening with Jack and DH. Remember those private golf lessons I stumbled through in March? Gad.....it was like I'd never been there, never showed up..... ..very aggravating. But I'm pleased to report that I did not throw my driver. And I did yell FORE! :rolleyes:

If I sound funny, it's cuz I'm just back from the dentist so there's lingering novocaine or whatever & the gauze over the new hole in me 'ead where a toof was. (Celiac-induced <I'm certain> broken molar :( )

Golf is a nice walk in the outdoors that is ruined by a little white ball. :angry:

Good Morning, Y'all!

Hey... ...Should something special happen to the Silly who manages to post last thing at night, and first the next morning? I've just accomplished this, only because it was deadly quiet last night (i.e., NOBODY past me at 9:40)....

Did everybody go out together without me?

No birthing-of-strange-creature dreams for me last night, but a wicked insulin reaction that I barely remember, as I was semi-conscious. Thank gawd, my DH is so well tuned in to all this, and a light sleeper... ...he felt me sweating profusely and shaking, so he performed the drill: grabbed the corn syrup on the night table and squirted some down my throat. There is an appropriate silliness to all this, I promise - -for when I awoke this morning, I had dried corn syrup all in my hair, crusted and hardened into an astonishing bouffant. :o:lol:

This happens on rare occasion, and when it does my hair rather stays like this for a few days, as the syrup is next to impossible to get out. Everyone knows when I approach with wind-tunnel hair.... "Ho! Em had low blood sugar last night!" :lol::rolleyes:

How's the orifice today, Ptaoughmhmn? Hope there's no pain. At least the bad tooth is gone, never to cause trouble again......was it a wisdom tooth?

Mornin' Sillies.....are ya'll ready for my new drama of the day???

I'm coming to you from our little natural foods market that luckily has Wi Fi. The heat wave broke last night with a heinous storm--we lost a tree and about 69,000 of us lost power :angry:

No water or electricity since about 8 last night.....I'm down here eating my banana and Lara bar whilst all the food in my fridge goes bad.

According to the radio, they are working overtime to resolve everything, but a neighbor told Mark this morning he heard it could be a multi-day thing. The weather is nice today, so they should be able to work on it without too many problems. (crossing fingers)

Anyway, I'll be hanging out here for a little bit, then I gotta head back home. I'll check back as I can.

Pataughm, hope the hole in yer head is less painful today! :)

Patti - hanging out at the market :lol: not sure why that's so funny when you aren't supposed to eat all the fun stuff in it. It sounds like some modern medieval torture plan. "ahh yes, we'll surround you with tempting, but forbidden treats and you can't escape because there's no other connection to your world of silliness"

      I read that as well but I saw the Certified Gluten free symbol that is the reason I ourchased it.

I live in the UK and I have often wondered why doctors are so reluctant to at least exclude it - my thoughts are perhaps the particular tests are expensive for the NHS, so therefore saved for people with 'obvious' symptoms. I was diagnosed in 2013 and was told immediately that my parents, sibling and children should...

      Maybe they can attribute certain skin conditions to either being susceptible to getting Celiac......or the other way around....but I have to ask if certain people are prone to Celiac because of genetics and some people aren't. It's kind of the same thing as what came first.....the chicken or the egg.?

      @xxnonamexx, There's labeling on those Trubar gluten free high fiber protein bars that say: "Manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts, milk, soy, fish, WHEAT, sesame, and other tree nuts." You may want to avoid products made in shared facilities. If you are trying to add more fiber to your diet to ease constipation, considering...

      I agree, it so often overlooked! I live in the UK and I have often wondered why doctors are so reluctant to at least exclude it - my thoughts are perhaps the particular tests are expensive for the NHS, so therefore saved for people with 'obvious' symptoms.  I was diagnosed in 2013 and was told immediately that my parents, sibling and children should be checked.  My parents' GP to this day has not put forward my father for testing, and my mother was never tested in her lifetime, despite the fact that they both have some interesting symptoms/family history that reflect they might have coeliac disease (Dad - extreme bloating, and his Mum clearly had autoimmune issues, albeit undiagnosed as such; Mum - osteoporosis, anxiety).  I am now my father' legal guardian and suspecting my parents may have forgotten to ask their GP for a test (which is entirely possible!) I put it to his last GP that he ought to be tested.  He looked at Dad's blood results and purely because he was not anemic said he wasn't a coeliac.  Hopefully as the awareness of Coeliac Disease spreads among the general public, people will be able to advocate for themselves.  It is hard because in the UK the NHS is very stretched, but the fallout from not being diagnosed in a timely fashion will only cost the NHS more money. Interestingly, a complete aside, I met someone recently whose son was diagnosed (I think she said he was 8).  At a recent birthday party with 8 guests, 4 boys out of the 8 had received diagnosis of Coeliac Disease, which is an astounding statistic  As far as I know, though, they had all had obvious gastric symptoms leading to their NHS diagnosis.  In my own case I had  acute onset anxiety, hypnopompic hallucinations (vivid hallucinations upon waking),  odd liver function, anxiety, headaches, ulcers and low iron but it wasn't until the gastric symptoms hit me that a GP thought to do coeliac testing, and my numbers were through the roof.  As @trents says, by the grace of God I was diagnosed, and the diet has pretty much dealt with most of those symptoms.  I have much to be grateful for. You may want to avoid products made in shared facilities.   If you are trying to add more fiber to your diet to ease constipation, considering eating more leafy green vegetables and cruciferous vegetables.  Not only are these high in fiber, they also are good sources of magnesium.  Many newly diagnosed are low in magnesium and B vitamins and suffer with constipation.  Thiamine Vitamin B1 and magnesium work together.  Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine has been shown to improve intestinal health.  Thiamine and magnesium are important to gastrointestinal health and function.

      Welcome to celiac.com @sha1091a! Your experience is a very common one. Celiac disease is one the most underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed medical conditions out there. The reasons are numerous. One key one is that its symptoms mimic so many other diseases. Another is ignorance on the part of the medical community with regard to the range of symptoms that celiac disease can produce. Clinicians often are only looking for classic GI symptoms and are unaware of the many other subsystems in the body that can be damaged before classic GI symptoms manifest, if ever they do. Many celiacs are of the "silent" variety and have few if any GI symptoms while all along, damage is being done to their bodies. In my case, the original symptoms were elevated liver enzymes which I endured for 13 years before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. By the grace of God my liver was not destroyed. It is common for the onset of the disease to happen 10 years before you ever get a diagnosis. Thankfully, that is slowly changing as there has developed more awareness on the part of both the medical community and the public in the past 20 years or so. Blessings!

      @EndlessSummer, You said you had an allergy to trees.  People with Birch Allergy can react to green beans (in the legume family) and other vegetables, as well as some fruits.  Look into Oral Allergy Syndrome which can occur at a higher rate in Celiac Disease.   Switching to a low histamine diet for a while can give your body time to rid itself of the extra histamine the body makes with Celiac disease and histamine consumed in the diet.   Vitamin C and the eight B vitamins are needed to help the body clear histamine.   Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?
