Passing by quickly. I am up to date on reading, but really have nothing of interest to post.

I see you there, Susie. :)

DingoGirl Enthusiast
Sillies, I am so mad at meself--how could I have been so dumb???? I've been at this for 3 freaking years!!!!!! Honest to God--I feel so idiotic. Here I'm forever telling newbies to always read the labels and warn of changing formulas, blah, blah, blah.....Gawd

Pate (where is my accent egu when I need it? it would be over the E, and pronounced, pah-tay, like the liver stuff )

mygawd, woman, any of us could have done that! Remember, I did it w/ the evil barbecue chips? yup. and poor Tel! Indeed, if we wanted to gluten ourselves, we'd EAT that darned JELLY DOUGHNUT!!!!!!!! (or pizza, fried chicken, scads of things.............)

I have Weezee, your little garden sprite in my thoughts. Hope all goes well at the vet.

Thanks, Jooleigh. :) My Weezee's blood work was quite decent! She has low T4, and so, just like Tika, may be on medication soon.........and - slightly lowered hematocrit.... stool sample is normal........so......I"m confounded. Can't figure out WHY she is SCOOTING on carpet when ANAL GLANDS (I said it) were quite recently emptied, adn why she eats grass EVERY SECOND of her life..........

P'raps I'll post a query and hopefully SANDY will see it!

Nicola! Souzzle has put out yer name with the stress on the first syllable. Could it be in the unusual, fetching positon of second syllable? Ni-CO-la.....

Or p'raps you were catching the long vowel sound on the first syllable, when it should be short.....Ni-cola, not Nee-cola.

Mygawd.....how boring. Please ignore the last ramble. Me and my schwa, diphthong, cadence obsession.....

  listen, soul sistah, I'm right there w/ you on the shwa's and diphthongs, etc. I quite ponder exact same things often.

See, I actually RECEIVED a call from Ni-co-la a few days ago, to my heart's delight. So, all along, I have been thinking her name is pronounced ni-COE-luh. [Emily - in all correctness a SCHWA would be used on first syllable] Accent on middle syllable. You see, I don't think anyone in the entire US has that name. Have never heard it spoken aloud. But she said it was pronounced NEE-coe-la. Well then, why in hell is she saying it's ........what was it? Nick-er-ler? (not to be confuzzled w/ George W. Bush's NUKE-yoo-ler  )

Wouldn't you rather have your problems attributable to a momentary lapse in diligence, rather than some body part staging a rebellion?

   excellent Jess

Hee hee--I'm back after me tirade!

I just told Mark on the phone--he was really nice and just said that it's better I found out late than never. :)

that Mark, he's a keeper......

Emily has her house back!!!

  mygawd, I didn't even know MIL was still there...............

grrrrr beginning to think we should create an EdnaZone and ban sickchick and rissa. Just who do they think they are? Posting all those fab sounding recipes and all???

:o WHAT? I haven't really been anywhere else on the phorum lately and.........fo' shizzle am staying away now..........

I know.... <_< I can practically smell the fresh-baked waffle cones.

EVIL!!!!!!!!

part deux coming up (remember, I HAVE NO LIFE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) :(

DingoGirl Enthusiast
OMG.....We should do this. We should start a thread and call it just that: Ednazone - - for those who need help with Edna. Can you picture the expressions on all the non-Sillies' faces?

Who is Edna?? Is she a new, troublesome forum member? Have I read her posts? Is she inappropriate or profane??

Then they would pause for only a moment, and slowly shake their heads...."Ah......but of course. It's those individuals on THAT thread".............

  This is simply marvelous. I say we do it. Start a seemingly COMPLETELY serious thread, and start adding replies, saying, oh yes, I"m on this Edna, and it's heinous or........well which Edna are you using? so on and so on.............really scaring and confuzing everyone.<amazingly, somehow, we are left alone over here but.......I do think that one could get us in some trouble, with poor, long-suffering Pskaught rolling his eyes again........... >

And - Em - I do like how you used such a polite fraze - - "those individuals" I can think of other words

Sarah- (((((((((((Hugs))))))))). I think you sound a lot like my mom -she would have sat up with me ALL night if I needed her.And the withdrawal you are going through sounds BRUTAL. I've heard people describe this and it sounds so terrible. Wish we could come down, open a bottle of wine and hire someone to massage your feet!

absolutely tremendous idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

gallstone necklace  ewwwwwwwww

I dunno how to describe the right sound,

Suzle says Neek-cola (coca-cola sound)

We Brits say Nik- er-ler

 see..........so confusing............

LAMINATE FLOOR? we were goign to do that here. How fabulous!

NICOLA'S DULL, BORING, MUNDANE (TOTALLY UN-SOAP OPERA WORTHY DAY)

************************************************************************

....Are yer bored yet?????

   'tis absolutely riotously phunny to me.............p'raps Nik could be the new Bridget Jones, but of the maternal world? write mad columns for bored US housewives?

The science guy at the library today was a MAD Scientist!!! He was hilarious, and at the end, he said, "So! Science is BORING, RIGHT???" All those kids screamed "NO!" so loudly, it rattled the windows. Mommy is pleased.

:) yay! this is good! and the corndogs sound yummy.......

Nik-er-ler's diary I bet Boris will end up with something heinous :o Egads- what would a cat with Tourette's sound like? "Meow farking meow meowMEOW bloddy MeOWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!" (No offense to any Tourette's sufferers or those that love them- just being silly)

 oh dear gawd........Bev has lost her ever-lovin' mind.................

well sillies, I'm to bed quite early tonight.........more early yard work tomorrow........

s'all I got...............

night sillies :)

Did Amanda get to go on vacation?

and a halloooooooo to Ryan, BTW!

and there's Peter <waving hand>

Ridgewalker Contributor
:) yay! this is good! and the corndogs sound yummy.......

They were quite good! ...unlike the Gluten-free Casein-free pizza I made tonight. <shudder> That "cheese" was horrid. I guess I got the wrong kind, because I know we've had some over at Mom's house that wasn't too bad at all. Worst of all, when it came out the oven looking like baby spit-up, I looked at the package again to see if I had missed some magical tip... And suddenly saw "oat flour" as the next to last ingredient. So actually, I'm sure I got the wrong kind.

Of course, Lucas had already taste tested it, and I ate maybe half a slice, before I saw that. Hopefully, it'll be ok... it's just a teensy bit of oat flour after all- could be worse... How DO these things continue happening after so long, though?! Ugh.

Still hoping Luke will be ok... All he really did was give the edge of his pizza a little lick. <fingers crossed> Gah...

I've often thought the 'no oats' in the whole gluten-free thang is the kicker....you know a entire world of food would open up in food if coeliacs could have them - especially kids stuff

You can buy 'uncontaminated' oats here in the UK online ...but dear god ...you need a mortage to afford it (and I can't <_< )

Well, a late good morning to all!

I headed in here with my morning tea at around 7:30 this am, and my crazy, psilly buddies wouldn't load! GAAAAAAHHHH!! I felt helpless and alone... .my kids slipped their arms around me and softly muttered, "Mom...it's okay.....we're here". Husband patting my back - -"I'm here....I'm here".

But nothing would assuage my solitary angst........<_<

Pate (where is my accent egu when I need it? it would be over the E, and pronounced, pah-tay, like the liver stuff )

Actually, I just LOVE Pate. It's very phunny.......

I did a little dance when I saw Souzle's two-parter today......She is back!! :):) And her phunny-as-hell self.....

What's going on with Annie's anal glands, Souzle?

 So, all along, I have been thinking her name is pronounced ni-COE-luh. [Emily - in all correctness a SCHWA would be used on first syllable] Accent on middle syllable. Nicker-ler's pronunciation issue is great stuff...... I think the confusion comes from the name Nicole, which always has its stress on the second syllable. We great unwashed  immediately assume that any derivitaves keep the same core pronunciation. But here it changes!! How confounding... . .

that Mark, he's a keeper......

OMG, yes. What a neat guy...... :)

YES. :lol::lol:

We could combine two of our coined words, and have outside readers nervously sitting at the edge of their seats, wondering whether or not to hit the report button.....

"Ah, gawd, putting Edna and Sven together....it's SO tough! You're doing really well with one of them, then you try Sven on top of Edna, and it gets exhausting....

Man, Sven just wipes me out. Takes everything I've got.......has me in all of these positions, I can barely catch my breath....."

C'mon, Patti......fess up. You were knocking them back last night.;)

Sarah - hope it's not too bad for you and Lucas

Susie - was in Wal-Mart picking up some doggie treats for JoDog to take with her to the kennel. Stumbled across "Dingo" brand dog treats, so of course that is what I bought!!

Nicker-ler - not sure if it's the right way, but this is how I'm gonna say it . . .:lol:

OK, I'm leaving on holiday vacation tomorrow morn . . . have loads of stuff to do today. If you see me here, tell me to git back to werk!!! Don't know if I'll have internet access or not. If not, I'll see you sillies a week from Sunday.

I am going to a wedding on Saturday, and picked up a lovely frock at Value Village. I was so delighted - - pale yellow linen dress, looks brand new, $7.99. :) Howevah, it has a low back. I now must go and try to find a new bra with a low back strap, and will likely spend another $40.00 on this accommodation.<_< Suddenly a fifty dollar outfit......

I could take this opportunity to try duct tape, now, couldn't I? But how would I tape them up, so they're nicely lifted, as a bra will do? Must experiment........Stay tuned.

Hi @Scatterbrain Thank you for your reply.   Some of these things could be weaknesses, also triggered by stress, which perhaps have come about as the result of long-term deficiencies which can take a long time to correct.   Some could be completely unrelated. If it is of help, I'll tell you some of the things that started in the first year or two, following my diagnosis - I pinned everything on coeliac disease, but it turns out I wasn't always right!  Dizziness, lightheaded - I was eventually diagnosed with cervical dizziness (worth googling, could be your issue too, also if you have neck pain?)  A few months after diagnosis I put my neck out slightly carrying my seven-year-old above my head, and never assigned any relevance to it as the pain at the time was severe but so short-lived that I'd forgotten the connection. Jaw pain - stress. Tinnitus - I think stress, but perhaps exacerbated by iron/vitamin deficiencies. Painful ribs and sacroiliac joints - no idea, bloating made the pain worse. It got really bad but then got better. Irregular heart rate - could be a coincidence but my sister (not a coeliac) and I both developed this temporarily after our second Astra Zeneca covid jabs.   Subsequent Pfizer jabs didn't affect us. Brain fog - a big thing for people with certain autoimmune issues but in my case I think possibly worse when my iron or B12 are low, but I have no proof of this. Insomnia - stress, menopause. So basically, it isn't always gluten.  It might be worth having your vitamins and mineral levels checked, and if you have deficiencies speak to your Dr about how better to address them?

@NanceK, I do have Hypersensitivity Type Four reaction to Sulfa drugs, a sulfa allergy.  Benfotiamine and other forms of Thiamine do not bother me at all.  There's sulfur in all kinds of Thiamine, yet our bodies must have it as an essential nutrient to make life sustaining enzymes.  The sulfur in thiamine is in a ring which does not trigger sulfa allergy like sulfites in a chain found in pharmaceuticals.  Doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition (nor chemistry in this case).  I studied Nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology.  I wanted to know what vitamins were doing inside the body.   Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Not feeling well after starting Benfotiamine is normal.  It's called the "thiamine paradox" and is equivalent to an engine backfiring if it's not been cranked up for a while.  Mine went away in about three days.  I took a B Complex, magnesium and added molybdenum for a few weeks. It's important to add a B Complex with all eight essential B vitamins. Supplementing just one B vitamin can cause lows in some of the others and result in feeling worse, too.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of all the B vitamins, not just thiamine.  You need all eight.  Thiamine forms including Benfotiamine interact with each of the other B vitamins in some way.  It's important to add a magnesium glycinate or chelate supplement as well.  Forms of Thiamine including Benfotiamine need magnesium to make those life sustaining enzymes.  (Don't use magnesium oxide.  It's not absorbed well.  It pulls water into the intestines and is used to relieve constipation.)   Molybdenum is a trace mineral that helps the body utilize forms of Thiamine.   Molybdenum supplements are available over the counter.  It's not unusual to be low in molybdenum if low in thiamine.   I do hope you will add the necessary supplements and try Benfotiamine again. Your goal is not to be a good puppet, there is no gain in that. You might want to restart the ones that helped.  It sounds more like you are suffering from malnutrition.  Gluten free foods are not fortified with things like Thiamine (B1), vitamin D, Iodine, B1,2,3,5,6 and 12 as non-gluten free products are required to be. There is a Catch-22 here.  Malnutrition can cause SIBO, and SIBO can worsen malnutrition. Another possibility is side effects from any medication that are taking.  I was on Metformin 3 months before it turned me into a zombi.  I had crippling side effects from most of the BP meds tried on me, and Losartan has many of the side effects on me from my pre gluten free days. Because you have been gluten free, you can test and talk until you are blue in the face but all of your tests will be negative.  Without gluten, you will not create the antigen against gluten, no antigens to gluten, so no small intestine damage from the antigens.  You will need to do a gluten challange to test positive if you need an official diagnosis, and even then, no guaranty: 10 g of gluten per day for 6 weeks! Then a full panel of Celiac tests and biopsy. At a minimum consider vitamin D, Liquid Iodine (unless you have dermatitis herpetiformis and iodine exasperates the rash), and Liquid Geritol. Push for vitamin D testing and a consult with a nutritionist experienced with Celiack Disease.  Most blood tests don't indicate nutritional deficiencies.  Your thyroid tests can be perfect, yet not indicate iodine deficiency for example.  Thiamine   test fine, but not pick up on beriberi.  Vegans are often B12 deficient because meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy are the primary souces of B12. Here is what I take daily.  10,000 IU vitamin D3 750 mg g a b a [   ] 200 mg CoQ10 [   ] 100 mg DHEA [   ] 250 mg thiamine B1 [   ] 100 mg of B2 [   ] 500 mg B5 pantothenic acid [   ] 100 mg B6 [   ] 1000 micrograms B12 n [   ] 500 mg vitamin c [   ] 500 mg taurine [   ] 200 mg selenium

Hi…Just a note that if you have an allergy to sulfa it’s best not to take Benfotiamine. I bought a bottle and tried one without looking into it first and didn’t feel well.  I checked with my pharmacist and he said not to take it with a known sulfa allergy. I was really bummed because I thought it would help my energy level, but I was thankful I was given this info before taking more of it.

Hello @Scatterbrain, Are you getting enough vitamins and minerals.  Gluten free food is not fortified so you may be starting to run low on B vitamins and vitamin D.   By the way you should get your mom checked for celiac disease.  You got it from your mom or dad.  Some studies show that following a gluten-free diet can stabilize or improve symptoms of dementia.  I know that for the 63 years I was eating gluten I got dumber and dumber until I started GFD and vitamin replenishment and it began to reverse.  Thiamine can get used up in a week or two.  Symptoms can come and go with daily diet.  Symptoms of beriberi due to Thiamine deficiency.   Difficulty walking. Loss of feeling (sensation) in hands and feet. Loss of muscle function or paralysis of the lower legs. Mental confusion. Pain. Speech difficulties. Strange eye movements (nystagmus) Tingling. Any change in medications? Last March I had corotid artery surgery (90 % blockage), and I started taking Losartan for blood pressure, added to the Clonidine I was taking already.  I was not recovering well and many of my pre gluten free symptoms were back  I was getting worse.  At first I thought it was caused a reaction to the anesthesia from the surgery, but that should have improved after two weeks.  Doctor thought I was just being a wimp. After three months I talked to my doctor about a break from the Losartan to see if it was causing it. It had not made any difference in my bp.  Except for clonindine, all of the previous bp meds tried had not worked to lower bp and had crippling side effects. One, I could not stand up straight; one wobbly knees, another spayed feet.  Inguinal hernia from the Lisinopril cough.  Had I contiued on those, I was destined for a wheelchair or walker. She said the symptoms were not from Losartan so I continued taking it.  Two weeks later I did not have the strength in hips and thighs to get up from sitting on the floor (Help, I can't get up😨).  I stopped AMA (not recommended).  Without the Losartan, a) bp did not change, after the 72 hour withdrawal from Losartanon, on clonidine only and b) symptoms started going away.  Improvement started in 72 hours.  After six weeks they were gone and I am getting better.
