HARRUMPHFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!

speaking of that. Well, I DON"T get my cable. the guy from AT&T was here for over seven combined hours today, making many trips, by car  to the PHONE BOX nearby.

Well, you have to be within 3,000 feet of said box, and I am, it was determined after many phailed attempts, 4,000 feet away. So - it can't work. :(

Now. One would think that this is something that might have been determined before they sent their installer out for a full day's work, but no...... *I* was the guinea pig for the whole neighborhood, and, it can't work here, at this time.

so - is this God's blessing? No hours and hours of mindless HGTV for me.......no Tori and Dean....no Mad Men.

I see God's hand in this. More reading for Queen Spruezle. Less brain atrophy.

the list.....I don't see why there have to be limits. FIVE? come ON. that is just crazy. I think the list can be limitless.......but not permanent. We REALLY can't commit to laminating. It's a changing list, geez. Based on our current whims. Lamination could get you stuck with someone like......Corey Haim, Barry Gibb, Bobby Sherman. Just think if you'd had to laminate your list in 6th grade:

Bobby Sherman

David Cassidy

Leif Garrett

and.......who was that miscreant in all of the Disney films.......French name.....became a major drug addict......

oh yeah. Jan Michael Vincent.

going to get booted off, on to bed now.

Morning, Sillies!

I do SO hope that Sarah checks in wif us today, even for a moment. Thinking of her constantly.......

Amanda! How's Lucky? Great news about Landen....... :)

It's phunny, we ALL get Bev'd from time to time, but when it happens to me I always think that I've been offensive, or just exceedingly unphunny. I was thinking about the unforgettable thing my dad said to me on the phone yesterday to bring some laughs into my day, the quote about no shoes/no feet that I found hilarious and clever.

Then I began to worry last night that no one else mentioned it because someone amongst us has no feet, and it therefore becomes a fairly tasteless comment.....:blink: I must put out a disclaimer, then: I in no way meant, in the pursuit of levity and mirth, any disrespect to ANY and ALL amputees who may be reading. . . .. ......

:):)

STILL no medals for Canada.......fourth place in many events........ :(

Notice there aren't many hairy men like that anymore  , where have all the hairy men gone is what I want to know.....I guess that look is out.

I know where one of them is!! He lives in our neighboUrhood- - mygawd, he is often out mowing his lawn or raking shirtless.........the man is absolutely SIMIAN. Dark fur is growing all over his chest, stomach, back and legs. In fact, I'm suspecting he is our yeti.

speaking of that. Well, I DON"T get my cable. the guy from AT&T was here for over seven combined hours today, making many trips, by car to the PHONE BOX nearby.

This is not the important information, Soooozle. Did he look like Patti's Plumber? ;)

Morning Sillies

Lucky has not puked since Tuesday evening now which is great, he is not eating as much as usual but what he is eating is being kept down. He srill seems tired but the vet did assure us that is normal.

Landen was good when I saw him last evening as well, he was his usual smiley self.

I'm back at work....blah!

I bet there is more but I can't think of them right now....

Amanda--are you going to go ahead and make an offer? They'll take less even though they lowered the price no matter what the realtor says ;) (been through this 9 times) Once you have a contract, you have a right to a home inspection and if something shows up that either the owners won't address or that you don't want to you can cancel the deal.

It has to be done within a certain time frame, and you are responsible for the inspection but at least you know what you're dealing with.

How exciting :D

Find out the median price in the area, but I think that it always pays off to do the work especially when you get a great deal. Prices are low right now, but the market always rebounds--may take a while maybe another good year or two, but a home is a great investment.

Just make sure you plan to stay in the house for a while.

Well the other houses in the area are more in the 140 range, but this one is in need of a lot of work and may need a new spetic and a sum pump and stuff.....

It all depends on how much you want to take on, how much you like the area and the land, etc. Use what the house still needs as a guideline for an offer.

Bummed i missed the party last night (Kurt wouldn't let me read cause I was angry (remember in "Pretty Woman" Richard Gere says whilst in the HOT tub, "I am very ANGRY at my father" :P So whenever he left the room I snuck on and just read my email. It's kinda like spying on the party ;)

I LOVED LOVED LOVED the Bay City Rollers, Shaun Cassidy (later realzied that Parker Stevenson was actually MUCH hotter!), Donnie Osmond, wanted to BE Marie Osmond, Leif Garret (Good Lord he's quite scary now!). I had a Bay City Rollers fan club in my basement  Sigh- Derek

You laminate the list after college- but WHAT 5??????? No no no! I didn't even know you had to laminate it until my best friend from high school was visiting a few weeks ago. Kevin Costner (on her laminate list) was filming a movie in Evanston, IL and they had "rented" her friend's house to shoot. She found out he was over there, looked at her hubby and said "Honey, I gotta go- he's on the laminate list!"  She said he was VERY nice unlike his co-star Kathy Bates. :( Alas, she only got to oogle him ;)

I think you should have a top ten list and it CAN change. The list I made in 8th grade (see above) was a heck of a lot smarter than the one I would have made out of college

My current list:

Colin Firth (oh yeah!)- those Brits- so cuuuuttttte!!!!!

Benicio del Toro

Richard hammon (the Hampster) on Top Gear

Liam Neeson

the old Brad Pitt (legends of the Fall/Meet Joe Black)

Daniel Craig (meow!)

Oliver Martinez (the Spanish guy who laura Linney likes in Love Actually)

Gary Oldman

Funny piece on NPR yesterday. Apparently the Canadian Olympics reporter is getting razzed in the newsroom because even places that no one has heard of, like Togo, have gotten medals. I guess other reporters are saying things like "I wanna report for the Canadians. You don't have to do anything"

Next Olympics, when it includes things like 'Politely ignoring in a subtle attempt to induce behavioural changes', Canadians will totally rock.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
    • Scott Adams
I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
