Morning Sillies-

twas starting a reply and then my boss came and asked me to take a walk with her :( but it was all for a good thing--I didn't know that until we got to our destination. The Clinical Trials office has finally gotten its own lab and I am responsible for it. We will start using it in a month. One of my coworkers is my backup. So we went up to see it. This has been a long day coming and I am so excited it is here. There is a lot to do between now and then but oh so nice :):):)

Nope . . . I do believe that Oracle Peter was correct . . . Gus ate it!! . . . and just like most dogs, when they eat something they shouldn't, he barfed it back up. Now keep it someplace safe, because just like most dogs, just because they threw it up once doesn't mean they won't eat it again!!!

Ah. . . . . but wait! You may be onto something, Janet, but ya got the wrong dog. I am taking Elsie into the vet today for something revolting that's happening to her left eye - - conjunctivitus, I'm guessing....and as she is the one who eats amazing things, brings them forth and consumes them again, there may just be a connection. . . . hmmm .. . . .cursor gone, Elsie's eye starts running....cursor returns, eye holding its own, perhaps a little better. Must ask the vet.

"All right, Dr. Kline, I think I may have things figured out. The cursor on my PC suddenly disappeared a couple of days ago, and within hours, Elsie's eye began to look red and inflamed. . . ......She very likely consumed my cursor (she does eat bizarre items, so it makes perfect sense), and had some type of allergic reaction. The cursor's back, and the eye isn't weeping nearly as much"........ . .

Yep, this all phits perfectly. But mygawd, the implications...... . .I may have to designate our house a cursor-free enviornment. . . .......

That would be the Official Emoticonstabulary, out of the UK . . . Nikki may have more pull with those blokes.... . . ..

 Read that as I'd have to pull these blokes (ye olde English way of saying you've been 'lucky in love' ;) )

....e.g.

'Get yer coat luv....you've pulled'

Wow. . .. .here I was simply suggesting that you may have more influence over their ERP (Emoticary Regulation Policies)..... . . but it looks like I've inadventently suggested that you sleep with the lot of 'em in exchange for a larger emoticon quota.. ....:o

Um. . . ....

Would you consider moving in that direction?........

Sounds to me like Elsie has a cursor intolerance.

You might want to get her tested for cursory disease BUT you must throw the cursor back to her if you do....it's VITAL she keeps eaten them until she's had the tests.

I hear ya, Nik. I suppose I now have many questions for the vet..... . . are there traces of cursors in other things? Can a cursor cross-contaminate other computer icons that she may ingest? If she's sensitive to one, may she have other intolerances? Could she react to a @, or *, or the troublesome + and = combination?

Must write these queries down . .. . ....

Brief vent. Went to my dermatologist. 9am appt, should be the first of the day, right? The assistant takes me to a room about 9:10 and says "Just so you know, he's not here yet. But he'll be here in 10 or 15 minutes." Excuse me???? I have to show up on time to my job! (OK, I don't, but just for arguments sake...). So asked if this is common? Today only? Always on Friday? She said, pretty much every day :o !!

WTH! I don't think I need an MD that doesn't feel the need to show up promptly for his own office hours!

Ok, thanks. Feel better

This one I can relate to--my GP in Jersey did the exact same thing. No point having the first appointment because you'd end up sitting there for 20 minutes or so until she arrived and got herself together. Aggrivating

If they know they won't even BE there to see patients by a certain time, here's a thought......don't schedule them!!

Thus the true reason behind all the colorful pictograms.............Elsie's cursory disease has given her a bout of D and she has shat rainbow heiroglyphics all over Sillyville! :o

Amanda, exciting news about the job :D

What else?

Janet, I want to come live at yer house. Fresh gluten-free baked goods on demand!!

Emily's missing cursor, cursor intolerance, cross cursor contamination  Ouch, that sounds a bit painful with Elsie's eyes, hope those drops help :)

Excellent vent Jess!

Manchester!! I knew there was a word I needed to add into my vocab...that and "squicky" was it Patti?

Ugh, was bored to tears last night with Greys, I think I am packing it in as well Susie. How can something that was so good turn to such CRAAAAAAp?!?! I recorded CSI and have yet to watch it, as well as Eleventh Hour with Rufus Sewell (sp?) , yer countryman Nikki :D I have a slight crush on him, I know he was the awful boyfriend in The Holiday and played some pretty crooked characters in Helen of Troy, Knight's Tale, etc, but there is just sumfin about him....

I agree, there can be contamination at many points--milling is another possible source of contamination for any flours.

Keep in mind that with manufactured food products, "gluten free" doesn't equate to no gluten. Things that are naturally gluten free can be cross-contaminated with gluten in the field, in shipping and in processing. In the U.S. companies can use the gluten free label as long as the product doesn't exceed 20ppm of gluten. That amount still may cause a reaction in some people.

Dd10 was tested for celiac four years ago bc two siblings were dx’d (positive labs and biopsies). Her results at the time were positive ema  and ttg (7x the UL), but a negative biopsy. We checked again three months later and her ttg was still positive (4x the UL), but ema and biopsy were negative. Doc said it was “potential celiac” and to keep eating gluten, but we were concerned about harming her growth and development while young and had her go gluten-free because we felt the labs and ema in particular were very suggestive of early celiac, despite the negative biopsies. She also had stomach aches and lethargy when eating it. We just felt it’d be better to be safe than sorry. Now, four years later, she doesn’t want to be gluten-free if she doesn’t “have to be,” so underwent a 12 week gluten challenge. She had labs done before starting and all looked great (celiac panel all negative, as expected.) Surprisingly, she experienced no noticeable symptoms when she began eating gluten again, which we felt was a positive sign. However, 12 weeks in, her labs are positive again (ttg 4x the UL and ema positive again as well). Doc says that since she feels fine and her previous two biopsies showed nothing, she can just keep eating gluten and we could maybe biopsy again in two years. I was looking up the ema test and the probability of having not just one but two false positives, and it seems ridiculously low.  Any advice? Would you biopsy again? She’s old enough at this point that I really feel I need her buy-in to keep her gluten-free, and she feels that if the doc says it’s fine, then that’s the final word — which makes me inclined to biopsy again and hope that it actually shows damage this time (not because I want her to have celiac like her sisters, but because I kind of think she already does have it, and seeing the damage now would save her more severe damage in the long run that would come from just continuing to eat gluten for a few more years before testing again.)  Our doc is great - we really like him. But we are very confused and want to protect her. One of her older sibs stopped growing and has lots of teeth problems and all that jazz from not catching the celiac disease sooner, and we don’t want to get to that point with the younger sis. fwiw- she doesn’t mind the biopsy at all. It’s at a children’s hospital and she thinks it’s kind of fun. So it’s not like that would stress her out or anything.

Thanks for the replies. I already use a gluten-free brand of buckwheat flakes I occasionally get itchy bumps. I'm still reviewing all my food products. I occasionally eat prepackaged gluten-free crackers and cookies, so I'll stop using those. I use buckwheat flakes and Doves Farm flour as a base for baking. Would you recommend eliminating those as well? It's a constant search.

Gluten free food is not fortified with vitamins and minerals as regular food is.  Vitamin deficiencies are common especially in recently diagnosed persons,  Get a 25(OH)Vitamin D blood test. And work on raising it.  The safe upper blood level is around 200 nmol/L.    "Low serum levels of 25(OH)D have been associated with increased risk of autoimmune disease onset and/or high disease activity. The role of vitamin D in autoimmune diseases   🏋️‍♂️Good job!   I find the commercial milk will give me mild stomach burn at night, while pasture/grassfed only milk does not bother me at all.  While you are healing, listen to your body.  If it hurts to eat something, eat something else.  You may be able to eat it later, or maybe it is just not good for you.  Lower your Omega 6 to 3 ratio of what you eat.  Most omega 6 fatty acids are inflammation causing.    The standard american diet omega 6:3 ratio is estimated at upward of 14:1.  Thats why fish oil works
