It was for an Eastern Ontario tournament. Somethin' she really needed. . . . having some doubts of her abilities, some teenaged-girl self-esteem issues. .so it came at the perfect time. :)

And to Smack, Janet!! Big belated congrats to him, as well, for the Tae Kwon Do green belt! Good for him!! :D

I remarked, "Well, this morning it was NOT charging. It was like....well.... .. .it had made its way down the hole of a porta-potty".

He stared at me for a moment, then quietly asked, "Would you reach in and attempt to retrieve it?"

I stared back at him. I replied, "You need to get onto this forum of which I'm a member"

Actually, I was just informed of the official formula for determining when the age difference for a woman and a young man becomes "sick", as my 42 year-old single friend called it. The Sick Scale: The woman's age, divided by two, plus seven years. So, she can go out with 28 year-old guys without feeling like a pathetic, skanky cougar.

A skanky cougar

Ah, the Psilliness is back!!!!!!!!!!! Time to up the wackl :P

Uncle ray sends his regards:

On their wedding night, the young bride

approached her new husband and asked

for $20.00 for their first lovemaking

encounter. In his highly aroused state,

her husband readily agreed.

This scenario was repeated each time they made

love, for more than 30 years, with him thinking that it was a

cute way for her to afford new clothes and other incidentals that

she needed.

Arriving home around noon one day, she was

surprised to find her husband in a very drunken state.

During the next few minutes, he explained that

his employer was going through a process of corporate

downsizing, and he had been let go.

It was unlikely that, at the age of 59, he'd be able to find

another position that paid anywhere near what

he'd been earning, and therefore, they were financially ruined.

Calmly, his wife handed him a bank book which

showed more than thirty years of steady deposits and interest

totaling

nearly $1 million. Then she showed him certificates of deposits

issued

by the bank which were worth over $2 million,

and informed him that they

were one of the largest depositors in the bank.

She explained that for more than

three decades she had 'charged' him for sex,

these holdings had multiplied and these were the

results of her savings and investments.

Faced with evidence of cash and investments

worth over $3 million, her husband was so astounded he could

barely speak, but finally he found his voice and blurted out,

'If I'd had any idea what you were doing,

I would have given you all my business!'

That's when she shot him.

You know, sometimes, men just don't know when

to keep their mouths shut

Required Thanksgiving recipe:

Happy Thanksgiving EVERYBODY!!!

Who would have thought of popcorn as a stuffing -- imagine that.

When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like

me, who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly

cooked, but not dried out.

Give this a try.

8 - 15 lb. turkey

1 cup melted butter

1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is Good.)

1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S LOW FAT)

Salt/pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush turkey well with melted butter

salt, and pepper.

Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn.

Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven.

Listen for the popping sounds. When the turkey's

a$$ blows the oven door open,

it's done.

Meant to ask about this meself . . .. . ..I've never heard of "bobblehead" meaning anything but....well....a bobblehead. Those silly figurines on my daughter's shelf - - hockey players, mostly.

Leeeesa, what is the naughty meaning? We all have our suspicions, of course. Tell us this - - is it a word that you provided instructions for making in ASL?

Yes! Something else I wanted to explore. Ptaoughmghmn, where is your quaalude scar? Is it in the shape of a quaalude, or is it named this due to it being created whilst you were taking quaaludes??

Soooozie, you would be terrific in front of a slow elevator.. . . . ..

Excellent recipe/joke Jess!

Thanksgiving prep is in full swing for me. My house smells so GOOD!!! I made the cranberry compote and baked the corn bread for the dressing last night and just baked the gingerbread cakes for the trifle.

Went over to my brother and sil's house to decorate most of the late morning and early afternoon. They live backed up to a little horse pasture I guess you could call it and Arnie had a VERY good time running around in their huge back yard, so much so he brought us a present to the door, a wee little mouse! YIKES!

Julie, your house sounds so festive with all the yummy smells! :D

I made a simple apple crisp for dessert tonight--we're having it when DWTS is on later. I had a bunch of apples that had seen better days--sliced them up topped wif brown sugar, Smart Balance and brown rice flour and baked. <droolphace>

Tomorrow, I'm making a spice cake wif buttercream frosting, 5 bean salad (shudder.....legumes, but me son loves it), cranberry-orange relish and my corn/red pepper/bacon side dish. I'm bringing all that to me son's on Thursday.

My 2 cents on the cranberry......canberry :P discussion--we make homemade cranberry orange relish by processing raw cranberries, oranges and sugar in the food processor, and letting it chill for at least 24 hours. Mark's mom's recipe and a family tradition.

Personally, I prefer cooked cranberry sauce--cooking the berries wif some sugar and cinnamon till they boil and pop. I like it warm

I think cranberry relish and/or canberry is typically a dish served cold!! But if you like it hot Bev, then you should just have hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found this recipe for "Cranberry Compote" that was meant to be served topping a Cranberry Bundt Cake a few years ago and it turned out really good so I have been making it ever since.....it can be served hot or cold however, I serve it cold. (btw compote=cooked fruit that is kind of saucy, or stewed fruit)....anyhow it's fresh cranberries, dried cranberries, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon sticks, sugar and vanilla and you cook it until it's thickened. Super easy. I cut the sugar way back and it's got that kind of sweet/kind of tart taste. Really good with turkey and all the fixings :D

Julie, speaking of dessert (because we usually are  )--I decided on the spice cake over the trifle since we have an hour's drive on Thursday. I am going to make it for here, though, closer to Christmas. It looks so good.....you must let me know how everyone liked it B)

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
    • Scott Adams
I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
