Good Morning, all!

STILL no sign of Amanda.. . . ..... I don't believe she's ever been away THIS long.......she checked in two or three times during her honeymoon, fer gawd's sake. . . .....

Stick around, Ptaoughmghmn! You flew in to check the new Royal Ascention, now you must stay to hear the new edicts, witness the alteration of that royal robe... . ..

Patteigh, I was always meaning to ask -- was there a problem getting the bejewelled mitre completely over yer curly head? I would imagine that further north things would have fit okay, but once you were in Tex-ASS, and curly helmet-head ensued - -you probably needed to alter IT. ..... ..

:P

Gonna order a carton of Llama Chews today - -my dad is having trouble swallowing solid food right now, so this sounds like the answer...."great new product size and lack of choke" . ..... . .

Why don't ALL hospitals have Llama Chews in storage, at the ready??

Jestgar Rising Star

Absolutely pouring rain here. I need the caffeinated chews this morning.

Lyle doesn't care for his new food and he woke me up at three this morning demanding something better (which he didn't get).

Gah. I'll be soaked by the time I get to work.

Am at "work" Sills.......Derek and I are noticing that the "time delay" for answers to questions (from me wackl boss) is VERRRRRRRRRRY long this morning. Sometimes, it's like a phone call to Europe (short time delay) but today....there's a good - 30-second? pause after a question is asked

Derek and I just stare at each other, waiting through the silence, counting off on our fingers

Nik--I was charmed by this :D As the mum of boys myself, I so remember this feeling

Now Sooz--about yer hair.....did I read you cut it?? :o Straightening is so nice until yer hair grows :P ...then you have to either touch it up ever so carefully or (gasp) grow it out. Big decision.....no going back B)

I keep going back and forth about it myself.....the curls wouldn't be so bad if I could inject some moisture into them.....Nik--any safe (gluten-free) suggestions? I already use conditioner.

Alas PadT <_< .... a constant battle meselph

Unfortunately the cuticle of curly hair is 'ruffled' (as opposed to laying flat with straight hair)....as the cuticle is lifted it doesn't hold on too well to its natural oils AND it needs like A TON of product to stick that cuticle DOWN to make the hair look shiny

Did I get a bit scientific then???

Well, I just came by to say how pleasant it is here today. I'm out on the deck wif two kitties enjoying the weather.

Conversation here seems to be a bit hairy today. The full moon isn't for a couple of days yet.

Ok, could someone please get over here and restrain me? I'm still on steroids from the rash I had (turned out to be sumac, by the way, eeek) so I'm going nuts in the kitchen today because I ran out of stuff to do.

I put white rice and cashew/carrot/ginger soup in the crockpot with chunked up chicken and broccoli for lunch tomorrow. I've got two pounds of ground beef and an enormous pile of chopped onion to do something for dinner with. Ideas welcome. trying to figure out a way to use my ripe avocados with that. And I'm making maple rice pudding. You know, I found a recipe for maple rice pudding that called for 1/3 cup sugar plus one tsp maple flavoring. Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't it be easier (and healthier) to just use 1/3 cup of maple syrup? Duh.

Meanwhile, back at the farm......

Hows you guys?!?!

Whhooooo!!!!!!! I'm on drugs!!!!

Oh, and the really special part? To get me gluten free prednisone they had to give me one milligram pills. I had to take FORTY pills for FOUR days. Thankfully they're very little. Then thirty pills for four days..... Oy.

flourgirl Apprentice

Pieter, I'm glad some one is having nice weather. We are currently paying for the good weather we had.....it's been days of gloomy (Earl) grey and rain.....and looks like days of rain to come. Poo!!! The weeds are gleefully over-running everything (I can hear them laughing, can you?) while the "good plants" are complaining of cold, wet feet! I've been out a couple of times to get after weeds, but the clouds open up and pour buckets of cold rain on my (curl-less) head. Summer coming soon (oh, pleze, oh pleze)

Psuess....sorry that I can't identify with the hairy problems. Mine will not curl. I do mostly cut my own...and if it looks not-so-hot, what the heck, it grows out. I also mostly don't care what it looks like...that helps quite a lot :D

Almost phorgot! :oAww Hellll to the new Kween Minimome Hope your rain supreme! I see you are already aware of the offishul kourt gesture :lol:

Ptawwwmmm pooped in! Wish we saw you more often (not necessarily more of you). Miss that spying EyE!

Keep it shiny....no matter the weather :)

Good gawd Bunnie :o Yer STILL on meds ??? H-anus!

Two things on the pudding--yep, I would just go with the maple syrup and when you feel better, can I have the recipe? :D I love anything maple :P

When can you wean off the steroids?

jerseyangel Proficient

Shiny day back at cha, Teeressa!! :D

Bunnie's on forty pills a day! :o

I would make spaghetti sauce wif all that ground beef and onion.....then it can double up for the next meal as a topping fer nachos or taco filler (I just add kidney beans). . .... :)

jerseyangel Proficient

Good idea, Emmel, on the sauce. That can be used a million ways.

Actually, that was just for the first few days. I'm down to ten a day til I run out, not that much really, just enough to keep my system from having a 'resurgence'.

And I would do the pasta sauce, but I'm not doing tomato right now cuz I think they make my tummy angry. I'm gonna challenge in a few weeks, but for now I have to get creative, hence the avocado. Hmmm, maybe if I creamed it up with some sour cream and garlic powder and mixed it in with pasta and the beef & onions......

Oh, thanks Padt!! But I actually feel pretty great!!! Which is why I'm cooking so much. It's very easy to see how people get hooked on steroids. Just google maple rice pudding, you'll see the first three recipes that pop up like I did. My rice didnt cook enough fast enough though so I'm having to add more milk and cook longer, oh well. And now you can has dairy!!!

Jestgar Rising Star

mmmmmm ground beef and onions

add tomato (sauce) fer spaghetti

add cream cheese/sour cream for a stroganoff type thing

toss wif rice (and veggies) for a rice and veggie thing

in between rice or corn tortillas with cheese for a quesadilla thing

on rice or corn tortillas for a taco thing

mix wif cheese, wrap in dough and bake for a bun type thing

I am doing a gluten challenge right now and I bought vital wheat gluten so I can know exactly how much gluten I am getting. One tablespoon is 7g so 1½ tablespoons of Vital Wheat Gluten per day will get you to 10g You could add it to bean burgers as a binder or add to hot chocolate or apple sauce and stir.

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.
