OK. It's Sat morn and I'm not awake yet. The only glasses I can find slide off my face when I look down. I am computer (almost) illiterate. And you want me to go to page 1512. How do you do that? One page at a time? Does this silver man have anything to do with a garage in Washington left perhaps by a man in a trenchcoat who refers to himself lovingly as Deep Throat? If not, Please instruct. I had a grin on my face yesterday - could that be the beginning of an attack of funny?

It certainly could--we tend to have that effect on people :D

To get to a certain page, look to the bottom left of your screen and you'll see a box that says "2267 pages" (the page we're currently on). Click on the dropdown in the box and you can just type in the page you want. :)

And you want me to go to page 1512. How do you do that?

At the top (or bottom) of the page on the right, the current page count is shown. To the right of it is a triangle pointing down. Click the triangle, and a window will open where you can type in the page number to which you wish to go.

Well, I learned something new. After reading about him for 4 pages, I feel like I know him. And I already miss him terribly. Where can I get my own Sam Hill Manhead? My Dh doesn't have a parking garage where he works (the barbarian) and, besides, what are the chances of that happening twice? Seriously, I need someone to walk with. I could put him in a little wagon - he could protect me from the wild dogs that roam the area. And all the young girls in the nieghborhood would secretly think of me as a cougar (which I am). And the money I would save if I saw a shrink! I could just talk to him! Is he silli? Is it too soon to be thinking about the "L" word?

I woke up Mark :P who tried to swat it with a rolled up newspaper, but only succeeded in knocking it to the floor--where it ran under the bed. Then it just disappeared

Dear gawd........ .. . . ..this would NOT be good fer me, either.... . . ...and imagine Soooozle? Methinks she would be awake ALL night. .. .. ..

Our Ranger is digging up some silly, yet Jyesss seems down a quart.

Eat, and things will be all better. This, unfortunately, seems true for EVERY situation. <_<

We go and get J3 tomorrow morning.....haven't seen him in two weeks. Bet he's taller (even standing legitimately)..... . . He is growing SO quickly right now...

:)

Index for Susan:

J3 = my son Jack, called such as he is the third-tallest in the group of J-named boys in his camp cabin.....but the glitch was, the way he was standing while being measured was, well, . . . . .....actually, you can find my account about seven or eight pages back, now that you know how to search, and of course you have nothing better to do than read my past ramblings. ..... ......:lol:

Ranger Soooozun! Yes, I hear you on the immediate connection, the magic one feels upon first encountering SHM. Jus' somethin' about him. . ........and you're right, the chances of it happening twice - - something of this calibre, slim to none.

I think we need every Psilly to put up their avatars in which he has appeared, so that you can really get a sense of exactly how much he has infiltrated our lives. My pic is stored in my other computer, so I will get onto it next post and put it up.

Since my kitchen is in disarray, my dryer is also not hooked up so I've been line drying. I switched out my sheets and made a discovery - flannel is not meant to be baked dry on a clothes line. It was like sleeping between sheets of sandpaper.

On the up side, I figure this whole body exfoliation woulda cost me a fortune at a spa.

Gah! Well, we must recruit Jyaghnutt, the creator of most of these amazing pictoral accounts of Sam's whereabouts. Hopefully she kept copies of the ones she made.....

I did read about that. Maybe next time they measure, you could put Sam Hill Manhead on his head and maybe they won't notice a kid with a head on his head and measure him taller. I think I' getting fixated. Seiously, it's rough being 13.

Does he take the heighth thing seriously, or does it not bother him?

HEY! We never thought of that as a practical use for SHM! For those guys who are short and want to appear considerably taller........he could be an extender! Put him on yer head, wrap yer shirt around yer real head and neck........VOILA.

The bonus: He has a much better-looking face than many short blokes I know.. . .. ..

Okay, Soooozun and Shroomie! Head back to page 1512 - - mid-November 2008 - - the sudden introduction of Sam Hill Manhead into our lives. . . .......

Reading it again, I remain fascinated in where he came from..... . . ....why he was there, right when DH was unlocking his car.... . . . ....what does it meeeeeeean?

..

The appearance of Sam Hill Manhead is mysterious indeed, and never has so much care been put into selecting an appropriate name  Do ya think some woman who didn't appreciate what she had knocked 'im off 'is pedestal?? Her loss, our gain! Thanks for digging that out, Em. It plugged some other gaps too!

Last night just as I was going to sleep, I turned and saw the biggest black bug on the wall, up near the ceiling :o I woke up Mark :P who tried to swat it with a rolled up newspaper, but only succeeded in knocking it to the floor--where it ran under the bed. Then it just disappeared

Oh man, I can so relate to that one. As a certified arachnophobic, as a teenager I snuck in after curfew to find this humongous spider on the wall above my bed. Plucked up my courage and took a thwack at it and lost it!! It fell between my bed and the wall (onto very dark stained wood) and vanished. I could nae ask for any assistance, so after searching all the bedclothes I quietly slid the bed out into the middle of the room, lifted all bedclothes clear of the floor, and laid awake in terror all night. Never did see the bugger again.

UNLIKE the spider I found in my friend's guest bed. Thwacked at that one and lost it too, and just had a feeling that I had nae seen the last of it. Fortunately I had been a little dephobia-ized by then so that when it reappeared I did not die like I might have before. Took a sweater out of a dresser drawer and put it on; little while later I scratched a tickle on my arm, but it did not go away. Premonition hit and I walked (did NOT run, but uncalmly) into the bedroom and pulled the sweater off inside out and THERE HE WAS. I made sure I despatched him that time.

Now I knew that, one of the few things I do know so I had to tell ya. :D

Since my kitchen is in disarray, my dryer is also not hooked up so I've been line drying. I switched out my sheets and made a discovery - flannel is not meant to be baked dry on a clothes line. It was like sleeping between sheets of sandpaper.

I do believe you have just discovered why Nickerler is always ironing   Ya gotta iron out the sandpaper!

OMG........ . . . I remember this.... . .... how he was staring lovingly, possessively at you, Patteigh....we all commented on this. . . . .

Ah that chiselled chin, that straight nose, that loving gaze...whatta guy! Pity he does not have the appropriate appendages!! :P

Good lord Em, why did ya give 'im away??

Amanda has a Maine Coon too!!! Aren't they just the greatest, and yes, they do lick you like a dog, make you a member of the Maine Coon tribe. Miss Em does not walk on the keyboard; she lies beside the computer, always likes to be close, but parks right in front of the screen so you can't see a thing (yeah, 15 lbs plus and takes up the whole screen) when she wants something (like dinner  ) She's bossy too; herds us around when she thinks it's time for us to go to bed. Yeah, I'm missing her!

Damn, I had this post all planned out and then Clay insisted he had to use THIS computer for IMPORTANT business (like psillies are unimportant :o ) and everything has gone out of my pea brain. Oh well, there wasn't a lot in there anyway....

mushroom Proficient

Why do we have to get cold when you gets cold, Soozle? It's not going to get above 70 all day today in the glorious Sierra Nevada :( And just when the smoke cleared from the NorCal fires too. Why does California have to blow everything in our direction??

Sorry about your 'puter woes :(

Yeah, isn't Soozun a kick in the pants!! I's going to have to find more psilly.

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind
