fact

WELL. . .... .. . ....as a matter of fact, someone DID show up considerably earlier than the time I had told her to.

MY SISTER. :o

Yep, told her to be here @ 6:45, as everyone else was arriving @ 6:30 and would be securely ensconced. She showed up at five to six.

SoOOoOoOooo......she had some idea that there were more than her immediate family about to arrive, what with the myriad fruit and dessert trays, the litres of wine`and cases of beer lined up.....DUH.

It was a PHAB party. Lotsa cleaning up, not much food left over, and not a single person tried to drunkenly dive into the ho'tub. 'Twas all good.

I hope everyone is well, just busy. January for me is often the busiest month of the year, it would seem - - even busier than Christmastime. I do so hope that it is the same with everyone, and Psillyville gets full of raucous voices and laughter from everywhere once again. . . ....!

Well.......Once more, I have been dealing with hospitals. My brother very quickly came down with a serious case of the flu and pneumonia. I didn't know he was sick til he called from the hospital Critical Care on Thursday......was so bad he called for an ambulance. Turns out, he was also very close to going into a diabetic coma. He didn't know he was diabetic. Blood sugar was 485. He has been diagnosed as type 1.

He's doing much better, now, and it looks like we will be able to take him home tomorrow. He's thinking about asking his diabetes counselor out on a date

Same old news here . . . headache . . . GP has diagnosed me with a sinus infection and put me on a different antibiotic which I started yesterday. Symptoms are worse today . . . what does that mean? Anyways, if this doesn't work, they're gonna scan me or sumptin.

Poor Jyaghnutt. . ... . . ..:( This sucketh.

I am suddenly reminded of a drole li'l joke my dad used to tell:

This fellow had been suffering from excruciating headaches for some time, and finally went to a doctor. After a thorough exam, the physician called the man into his office and said, "Well, I'm not exactly sure what is causing your headaches, but we've found a cure for them: you'll have to be castrated." The man, needless to say, was taken aback, and told his doctor that he would try to bear the pain. But as time went on, the headaches only got worse. Finally, the poor fellow was driven back to the doctor. "All right, I guess I'll have the operation," he said. When it was all over, the man was understandably depressed, and his physician told him, "I recommend you begin life anew--start over from this point."

So the man decided to take this advice and went to a men's shop for a new set of clothes. The proprietor said, "Starting with the suit, looks like you take about a 38-regular." "That's right," exclaimed the man, "how'd you know?" "Well, when you've been in the business as long as I have, you get pretty good at sizing a man up," replied the salesman. "Now, for a shirt, looks like about a 15 long." "Right again," the man said. The proprietor suggested, "And for undershorts, I'd say a size 36." "There's your first mistake," the man said, "I've worn 34's for years." "No, you're a size 36 if I've ever seen one," said the owner. The man replied, "I ought to know what size undershorts I wear, and I'll take 34." The owner shook his head and said "Well all right, if you insist, but they're going to pinch your balls and give you headaches!"

:o Lisa, and Jiangnut, so sorry I hollered at yous. I didn't mean it :) . Your poor brother, Lisa; must wonder what on earth has hit him. And your sinuses, Jiangnut, t'is haynus the problems they create. Would ban 'em if I could. I had one (sinus infection) that lasted for several months thru innumerable antibiotics; t'was Augmentin that finally killed it (and me--c. Diff and candida after that lot!). Maybe even gluten intolerance  So they did this scan and said I had an abnormality and they wanted to do surgery, but I found out that is awful, and I said no thanks. They haven't really bothered me since. I dare them

You guys must be warming up because the chill has moved to this hemisphere, high of 50 degrees yesterday in the height of the summer holidays. Lots of campers are heading home. Rain, rain, everywhere. Floods...well, it's just not summer. I guess we had summer the first week in Jan. :( I did enjoy it  Looking forward to my real summer in June.

Spending the day putting together my new "new" recipe book, the one without potato starch and nightshades. Tired of all sheets of paper, bookmarks, gf1 and gf2 document files, scraps from the newspaper, notes in notebooks, never know where to find anythink. :P

There is much helpful 'truth' posted on this forum. Truths about Celiac Disease are based on scientific research and people's experience. Celiac disease is inherited. There are 2 main Celiac 'genes' but they are variations of one gene called HLa - DQ What is inherited when a person inherits one or both of the DQ2 or the DQ8 is a predisposition to develop celiac disease after exposure to a environmental trigger. These 2 versions of the DQ gene are useful in diagnosing  celiac disease but there are about 25 other genes that are known to influence celiac disease so this food intolerance is a multigenic autoimmune disease. So with so many genes involved and each person inheriting a different array of these other genes one person's symptoms may be different than another's symptoms.  so many of these other genes.  I don't think that much research on these other genes as yet. So first I wrote something that seem to tie together celiac disease and migraines.  Then you posted that you had migraines and since you went gluten free they only come back when you are glutened. Then Scott showed an article that reported no connection between migraines and celiac disease, Then Trents wrote that it was possible that celiacs had more migraines  and some believed there was a causal effect. You are each telling the truth as you know it or experienced it.

Another annoying thing about trying to figure this Celiac life out is reading all of the labels and considering every choice. I shop at Aldi every week and have been for years. I was just officially diagnosed Celiac a couple weeks ago this October after my endoscopy. I've been encouraged by my local Aldi in that they have a lot of gluten free products and clearly labeled foods. I usually buy Milagro corn tortillas because they are cheap and are certified. However, I bought a package of Aldi's Pueblo Lindo Yellow Corn Tortillas without looking too closely (I was assuming they were fine... assuming never gets us anywhere good lol) it doesn't list any wheat products and doesn't say it was processed in a facility with wheat. It has a label that it's lactose free (hello, what?? When has dairy ever been in a tortilla?) Just, ugh. If they can add that label then why can't they just say something is gluten free or not? I did eat some of the tortillas and didn't notice any symptoms but I'm just not sure if it's safe. So I'll probably have to let my family eat them and stick with Milagro. There is way too much uncertainty with this but I guess you just have to stick with the clearly labeled products? I am still learning!

Thank you all for sharing your experiences! And I am very thankful for that Thanksgiving article, Scott! I will look into it more as I plan my little dinner to bring with on the Holiday I'm also glad a lot of research has been done for Celiac. There's still a lot to learn and discover. And everyone has different symptoms. For me, I get a bad headache right away after eating gluten. Reoccurring migraines and visual disturbances were actually what got my PCP to order a Celiac Panel. I'm glad he did! I feel like when the inflammation hits my body it targets my head, gut, and lower back. I'm still figuring things out but that's what I've noticed after eating gluten! I have been eating gluten-free for almost two months now and haven't had such severe symptoms. I ate a couple accidents along the way but I'm doing a lot better
    • trents
@Mari, did you read that second article that Scott linked? It is the most recently date one. "Researchers comparing rates of headaches, including migraines, among celiac patients and a healthy control group showed that celiac subjects experienced higher rates of headaches than control subjects, with the greatest rates of migraines found in celiac women.  Additionally, celiacs had higher rates of migraine than control subjects, especially in women. In fact, four out of five women with celiac disease suffered from migraines, and without aura nearly three-quarters of the time."
    • Mari
As far as I know and I have made severalonline searches, celiac disease disease has not been recognized as a cause of migraines or any eye problems. What I wrote must have been confusing.
