So, listen, Psills. . . . ....we are currently talking about our summer holiday this year. Last year we stayed put, so we're thinking of going somewhere not terribly far away, likely in July. The problem with being in Canada is this: EVERYTHING, even the grocery store, is far away . Will and I wanna go away just the two of us, and there is a window of time mid-summer when both kids will be at camp.

I need some great ideas! We have been seriously considering New Orleans. I cannot believe I have not found my way there yet, as the music of the French Quarter just does something to me - - it plays through my soul. ANNNNNND..... . .. . ..Patteigh!! We will be, what, a three-hour drive from youse guys?? Or is it more than that? Hmm. . . ... . . .I'd be dealing with some oppressive heat, but no worse than here during mid-summer.

Or, we could venture out to the East Coast....Newfoundland, as we've never been. Which Psillies are below The Rock? Who could we be takin' out fer drinks while there?

Decisions, decisions. . . . . ...

Congrats!

Tis easy, really!

Just push Alt and a number, and see what you get! You do need to highlight and increase the size, as they show up rather small.

Nothin happens on the dungeon compooter. Someday, when the beautiful new computer is working, maybe then...... Have to wait for a new disc to connect to to internet. Old disc is too old.

We could ALL meet at Paghteeigh's! Paht, what a generous offer.. . . ....if we come down there, we will absolutely come to visit you, and take in the sites of Houston. We will find a great, cheap hotel that serves free cocktails and snacks at 5 pm and rendezvous there, as we did in Philly! Depending on how long our trip is, we could do two or three days in Texas -- you could guide us as to what to see. Certainly Sam Bighead!

Yep, driving . . . no trunk, it's a minivan. The back seat will be down cuz we haul a hellavu lot of stuff with us. You can just stretch out on top of the suitcases, coolers, bins of pool toys, fishing gear, towels, gluten-free food, med kit, etc. Just make sure that you roll to the right or left as needed so hubby can see out the back window. :P

The weather has been SOOOOOOO amazing this weekend! I took the kids on a 10 mile bike ride this afternoon, I had a great time..... then I pulled a "great mommy move" and drove between 2 cement posts, welllll, Max is on a tagalong behind my bike and I got a little too close to one of the posts on my back end, slamming his handlebars into the post crushing 2 of his fingers. I don't think they're broken, but he also won't let me get close enough to see. Sooze, I'm one up on you for "mommy of the year"

We are celebrating my birthday today since I work a 12 on my actual birthday, so my hubby has attempted to make me a gluten-free, vegan dessert, it looks interesting enough, and contains dark chocolate and coconut, so I'm sure I will have it finished by the end of the night  And I'm eating pizza for the first time in months!! However, Maddie informed me, "you know it's not really pizza if it has no cheese! Like you can't call an omlette "omlette" without cheese....!"

smart-a$$

 I'm still three or so pages behind but........wait until we teach her our magic symbols

Damn flippin laptop. Apparently ALT-1 is "return to top of screen <_<

Mornin' Patti . . . and everybody else.

I just wanted to report that a miracle did occur last night . . . Smackl asked for more broccoli.

Must be sumphin in the water, Max did the same thing!!! You know, they say you have to offer a child a food 5x before they will try it. Well, Max has been offered steamed broccoli at least once a week for the last 4 years (cuz we all love it!!), so x52 weeks a year, that kid's been offered broccoli over 200x, and NOW he eats it

  Crap, don't no one try to screw around wif Jyaghnutt's posts, that's fo sho. . ........ .

We are trying to figure this out too. I'm actually leaning towards renting a house on Martha's Vineyard for the week. We should get a house together on the beach ;)

WAAAIIITTTT!!!!! I have a great idea! Our other option (which the kids want to do) is to go to Lake Shasta and rent a houseboat. It would be SUPER-COOL if we planned sumphin like that, one of those big 24-sleeper boats with the slides and hot tub, all the gluten-free food you can stand....OMG that would be so much fun!!

I gotta go try that dessert now.....

celiac-mommy Collaborator

Sooze, get the Weezer some appropriate attire and we'll rent a convertible and cruise over there.

And Jess, we live only 3 hours apart and we've not met yet! We are still planning that trip to Victoria in May, so we will hafta make plans fo-sho!!

Hi,  My 7 year daughter has complained of this in the past, which I thought were part of her glutening symptom, but more recently I have come to figure out it's part of her histamine overload symptom. This one symptom was part of her broader profile, which included irritability, extreme hunger, confusion, post-nasal drip. You might want to look up "histamine intolerance". I wish I had known of this at the time of her diagnosis, life would have been much easier.  I hope you are able to figure out.
    • lizzie42
My 5yo was diagnosed with celiac last year by being tested after his sister was diagnosed. We are very strict on the gluten-free diet, but unsure what his reactions are as he was diagnosed without many symptoms other than low ferritin.  He had a school party where his teacher made gluten-free gingerbread men. I almost said no because she made it in her kitchen but I thought it would be ok.  Next day and for a few after his behavior is awful. Hitting, rude, disrespectful. Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?
    • trents
Not necessarily. The "Gluten Free" label means not more than 20ppm of gluten in the product which is often not enough for super sensitive celiacs. You would need to be looking for "Certified Gluten Free" (GFCO endorsed) which means no more than 10ppm of gluten. Having said that, "Gluten Free" doesn't mean that there will necessarily be more gluten than "Certified Gluten" in any given batch run. It just means there could be.
    • trents
I think it is wise to seek a second opinion from a GI doc and to go on a gluten free diet in the meantime. The GI doc may look at all the evidence, including the biopsy report, and conclude you don't need anything else to reach a dx of celiac disease and so, there would be no need for a gluten challenge. But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you can worry about the gluten challenge at that time. But between now and the time of the appointment, if your symptoms improve on a gluten free diet, that is more evidence. Just keep in mind that if a gluten challenge is called for, the bare minimum challenge length is two weeks of the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten, which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. But, I would count on giving it four weeks to be sure.
