Good Worm-free morning, Psills! (Have SO often wanted to greet friends with this salutation, but have never had a time that fit.. ..!):lol:

YIPPEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but.............then what is wrong with Charlie????

Nothing is wrong wif 'im, thank gawd. The heartworm test is given every two years to make certain the disease is not present, so that preventative meds can continue (apparently it can be dangerous for dogs to be on the preventative if they have heartworms already present). So, a sudden positive appeared, completely by surprise. As the day wore on after this, I was truly beginning to worry, as symptoms of the illness do not appear until things are advanced, and Charles does have a couple of symptoms -- he coughs and gags at times, something I was, correctly I know now, attributing to the scar tissue from his devocalization. He also has some laboured breathing after running, another possible heartworm symptom.

SOoOooooO, what a relief.

Yes, whot in hell are these li'l things? Inulin -- think this might be baaaaaaad stuff. Super-refined food additive, is it not? Used as a sweetener... . .. ..... ..like sucrose. . .... . .must do some reading.

YAY! Some reading about something other than heartworms!

I'm so happy your baby is ok! I can't believe people devocalize dogs. can you say obedience school?!?!?!

I believe inulin is a food based fiber additive. Used in yogurt?

Robotics is going well so far. Some guest in the hotel kept complaining about the kids. They were asleep for hours and he kept calling the desk to complain. Robot working well so far.

Glad to hear it's going well!

I joined Weight Watchers this week. I have a bet with a friend that I would lose 25 pounds by October 1st. It was made last October and so far I have lost nada . . . so I figured if I want to have any sort of chance, I better get started. Soooooooooo, Jess, what are these fruity fiber crunchies of which you speak?

Good for you, I know a lot of people who have had great results from WW. I've always wanted to try it!

Oh . . . forgot to mention . . . no vomitous episodes from Skeeter for the last two weeks (although I am expecting one within the next few days)

Yeah!!! Don't wait for it, just go with it ;)

FALSE POSITIVE!!!!!

EXACTLY.

Any dog can be trained to keep the barking to an absolute minimum. This horrendous butchering of the dog's larynyx causes a compromised airway and very often behavioral issues, things that we are having to deal with in Charles' "rehab". These dogs cannot communicate, so they are often nervous, pushy and deal day-to-day with the stress of having the inability to make ANY sound. He is coming along slowly... . . quite a project.

But at least he has Elsie in place, a very competent and willing interpreter. Charles will go to the window and make his pitiful, gasping attempt at a bark, and Elsie moves in immediately right beside him, conveying his doggie-message... . . . ....:lol:

Oh . . . forgot to mention . . . no vomitous episodes from Skeeter for the last two weeks (although I am expecting one within the next few days).

So within 24 hours of this post . . . both the dog and Smackl have vomitted!!!! (Skeeter's still good, though). I'm not worried about Smackl. I think he got a bad corn dog at the school lunch. JoDog, however, had another seizure last night. This is the second one that I know of and it's been quite a while (9 months?). It wasn't as bad either. She and I took a really long walk last night and I'm kind of worried that I pushed her over some limit. I didn't take her to the vet because last time they just did a bunch of blood tests that came back fine and said that happens sometimes and they won't do anything about it (medication) unless it happens a lot (weekly). She does have her annual appt coming up so I'll bring it up then unless she has another before then.

HEAR YE, HEAR YE, HEAR YE!!!

ALL HAIL HER MAJESTY, QUEEN RAY SHELL!!!!

(who seems to have gone into hiding after her coronation)

Does the crown not fit, your majesty? Is the train too long? - we can call the royal dressmakers. Is the sceptre too heavy??? Are the robes a bit grubby and smelly from Skeeter's vomitousness and need a bit of drycleaning??

Do let us know how we can help your majesty adjust to her royal duties

I take Now B-1 (100 mg) Thiamine Hydrochloride, and Amazing Formulas L-Tryptophan (1000 mg).   Both are gluten free and free of other allergens.  I've taken them for a long time and haven't had a problem with them. I take Vitamin A from BioTech called "A-25".  It's gluten and allergen free and made in the USA.  It's a powder form of Vitamin A.  I was having trouble digesting fats at one point, but found I tolerated the powder form much better and have stuck with it since.   Tryptophan and Vitamin A help heal the intestines as well as improves skin health.  I get Dermatitis Herpetiformis and eczema flairs when my stomach is upset.  So I'm healing the outside as well as the inside.   I take one 1000 mg Tryptophan before bedtime.   With the Thiamine HCl, take 100 mg to start.  If you don't notice anything, three hours later take another. You can keep increasing your dose in this manner until you do notice improvement.  Remember not to take it in the evening so it won't keep you too energized to sleep. When I first started Thiamine HCl, taking 500 mg to 1000 mg to start was recommended.  If you've been thiamine insufficient for a while, you do notice a big difference.  It's like the start of a NASCAR race: Zoom, Zoom, turn it up!   This scared or made some people uncomfortable, but it's just your body beginning to function properly, like putting new spark plugs in your engine.  I took 1000 mg all at once without food.  It kicked in beautifully, but I got a tummy ache, so take with food.  I added in Thiamine TTFD and Benfotiamine weeks later and felt like I was Formula One racing.  So cool.  You may feel worse for a couple days as your body adjusts to having sufficient thiamine.  Feels sort of like you haven't cranked your engine for a while and it backfires and sputters, but it will settle down and start purring soon enough.  Adjust your dose to what feels right for you, increasing your dose as long as you feel improvement.  You can reach a plateau, so stay there for several days, then try bumping it up again.  If no more improvements happen, you can stay at the plateau amount and experiment with increasing your Thiamine TTFD.  It's like being your own lab rat.  LoL Yes, take one Benfotiamine at breakfast and one at lunch.  Take the B Complex at breakfast. Take the TTFD at breakfast and lunch as well.  I like to take the vitamins at the beginning of meals and the NeuroMag at the end of meals.   You may want to add in some zinc.  I take Thorne Zinc 30 mg at breakfast at the beginning of the meal.   Are you getting sufficient Omega Threes?  Our brains are made up mostly of fat.  Flaxseed oil supplements, sunflower seed oil supplements (or eat the seeds themselves) can improve that.  Cooking with extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil is also helpful.   @Wheatwacked likes phosphotidyl choline supplements for his Omega Threes.  He's also had dramatic health improvement by supplementing thiamine.  You're doing great!  Thank you for sharing your journey with us.  This path will smooth out.  Keep going!

good luck! vital wheat gluten made me violently ill. I will touch the stuff ever again.
    • catnapt
I wouldn't consider this lucky. I can NOT tolerate the symptoms. And I googled it and I was not even getting 10 grams of gluten per day and I was extremely ill. They'd have to put me in the hospital. I'm not kidding.   I will have my first appt with a GI dr on March 4th   I will not eat gluten again - at least not on purpose   they are going to have to come up with a test that doesn't require it.
    • xxnonamexx
What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks
    • trents
I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.
