Goodness! I slept zero hours last night. It's cool and all to see our hotel is a very tall round tower, but you add some wind and rain whipping around that building and yous gets a LOT of noise. I'm now on the boat, about to have to turn my lifeline off and we pick the ONLY seats behind a family of 2 SCREAMING children and their obnoxious baby talking parents and grandparents. The kids are not babies.... I just took 2 motion sickness pills and have no idea what they will do to me, we were too late for me to get my coffee t

Hmmm, wonder what happened there.... I think my phone was trying to hold onto me for dear life and maybe posted twice...? I discovered Jesse's blackberry works just great- thank God! I'm just cheating my way thru the NY times crossword ;). Haven't seen the screaming kids for a while. Maybe dad took them up and threw em overboard....

Just got back from a PT appt. Does anyone else spend all their doctor's appointments laughing hysterically?

Used to . . . at the OBGYN of all places . . . but she left to become a lawyer. Now most doc appts end with me swearing.

I think I shall try to nap--that or laugh watching the woman across from me scowling in disdain regarding these 2 kids. Wonder if I can get away with taking a pic of her.....

Uh oh, iPhone has to go ni-night right now. Love you all, pray we make it alive on this "big boat, yes it is, isn't this a big, big boat" <gag>

It is quiet here. I'm just about done for the day at work, and then when I get home we resume the battle of wits with Riley. We think we're going to have to tether her, which we have not done since 2005. But she seems determined to get around, over, or under the gate. :(

I have six harnesses of various sizes and shapes in the car. We'll see.

J had a phone last school year that would call me during social studies class. I could listen in to the class. It never calls me so I can listen in on a party or a date.

You must do what you need to for her protection. Good that she hasn't gotten the other kitties to follow her.

Rah-shyellle's ferry adventures!

Quite the developments o'er here...... . . .with all that's been happening with me mom and life generally, I haven't mentioned here the adventure we've been having with our visiting mouse. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed mouse poop in the small cupboard where we keep the dog food and treats. My husband jumped at this challenge, and rigged up two old-fashioned mouse traps with Cheese Whiz, and we spent the first two nights waiting to hear the "SNAP!" of a direct hit. Nothing. Our little friend (and I just KNEW it was one mouse, somehow -- I even named him... . ....Gerald) was quite an admirable opponent.. . . .....each morning we were discovering the blob of cheese having been nibbled just around the edges, like he knew to avoid the middle part that would trigger the trap. I remain veritably impressed.

Then DH tried peanut butter, figuring that it was stickier and Gerald would have trouble pulling away if the metal trap was set off. During the next few nights, we heard the trap "SNAP" twice, and those nights I lay there thinking, "dear gawd........ . . ..I hope it got him right across the neck so that he has died instantly -- no flipping around for hours with the trap snapped across his nose"......

And both mornings, I found both traps snapped, most of the peanut butter gone, and NO MOUSE. This is one kick-ass, you-don't-know-who-you're-dealing-with little bloke. DH is getting more and more p!ssed off.

Over the last couple of days I have been imagining what has been happening to Gerald.... . . .... . indeed, if it is only him reaping these culinary delights, he's likely getting a bit chunky.

Last night, DH, exasperated and vowing that he will not let any silly little rodent get the best of him, slathered BOTH Cheese Whiz and PB on both traps, carefully set them, and placed them carefully on the cupboard floor, trembling with anticipation and the thrill of potential victory.

Well.... . . . we heard the "SNAP" just after midnight. "Ahhhhh..... . . I GOT him...... . I just KNOW it!!!".......DH whispered as we lay there.

This morning I opened the cupboard door, and honest to gawd, I saw THE most horrifically obese mouse one could ever imagine... . . . he looked like a big, furry tennis ball with a long tail. Good thing the trap got him across the back of the head, as his body had gotten so huge it would not have fit in the trap.

RIP, Gerald. Due to your enormity, I now know that it was you alone, the solitary renegade, carefully and cleverly avoiding the lethal trap for so long, and reaping all those spoils.. . . . . . ....

I guess there's a lesson there, somewhere. ........ . . . .... . . .poor, fat Gerald. . ....!

Poor phat Gerald.....at least he had some really yummy last meals :P

kareng Grand Master

Poor Gerald - he died fat and happy! At least you know there are not more.

At M's summer nature day camp he attended for 6 years as a camper & 1 as a helper: They set big cage traps at night with lots of PB and pretzels or apples. They catch usually a racoon sometimes a possum. The kids all look at it & then M takes it into the woods & lets it go. They started getting the same raccoon (had a nick in his tail) every night no matter where they put the trap. He didn't hiss, just sat quietly until released. He seemed to enjoy the cuisine.

Sounds like he looked at it as a slight inconvenience for a midnight snack....

Methinks you actually caught Geraldine . . . a pregnant Geraldine . . . lucky you did before you had lots of little Geralds and Geraldines running about.

We had a mouse once when the kids were quite small and I was reluctant to put out a snap trap in fear of snapping toddler fingers or toes. I set out a humane trap (keeps them alive) before bed, announced to the kitchen as a whole "You have 24 hours to give yourself up or I WILL BUY a snap trap". He surrendered by the time I got up in the morning. Smackl (probably 2 1/2 at the time) and hubby escorted him out into the woods and released him.

OK.. youse guys are scaring me. Was going to have a veggie mix with black beans in it. Now I look at the picture and see evil faces on the beans. Wait, is that slices of onions or little white machine guns?

Something else I was going to say but can't see the posts & didn't not do speedy reply.

I wonder what it is about them? A few other things will give me digestive problems, but legumes are different. Different even from gluten.

oh yeah. the brownies made with black beans were on Good Morning America a month or 2 ago. But not sure I want to try them now

You're not intolerant to them, right?

Darn210 Enthusiast

There's a Weight Watchers recipe that uses black beans instead of (most of) the oil, er sumptin' like that. I'm sorry, but that just does NOT sound appealling. Black beans do NOT belong in desserts.

@Scott Adams That's actually exactly what I ended up asking for— vodka tonic with Titos.  I saw on their website that Tito's is certified gluten-free (maybe many of the clear vodkas are, I don't know, I just happened to look up Tito's in advance). I should have actually specified the 'splash' though, because I think with the amount of tonic she put in there, it did still end up fairly sweet.  Anyway, I think I've almost got this drink order down!

Be interesting to see the effects of dairy reintroduction with gluten. As well as milk protein sensitivity in and of itself the casein part particularly has been shown to mimic gluten in about 50% of celiacs. Keep us posted!
    • deanna1ynne
She has been dairy free for six years, so she’d already been dairy free for two years at her last testing and was dairy free for the entire gluten challenge this year as well (that had positive results). However, now that we’re doing another biopsy in six weeks, we decided to do everything we can to try to “see” the effects, so we decided this past week to add back in dairy temporarily for breakfast (milk and cereal combo like you said).

Hi Christiana, Many thanks for your response.  Interestingly, I too cannot eat wheat in France without feeling effects (much less than in the US, but won't indulge nonetheless).  I also understand children are screened for celiac in Italy prior to starting their education. Wise idea as it seems my grandson has the beginning symptoms (several celiacs in his dad's family), but parents continue to think he's just being difficult.  Argh.  There's a test I took that diagnosed gluten sensitivity in 2014 via Entero Labs, and am planning on having done again.  Truth be told, I'm hoping it's the bromine/additives/preservatives as I miss breads and pastas terribly when home here in the states!  Be well and here's to our guts healing ❤️
    • Wends
Lol that’s so true! Hope you get clarity, it’s tough when there’s doubt. There’s so much known about celiac disease with all the scientific research that’s been done so far yet practically and clinically there’s also so much unknown, still. Out of curiosity what’s her dairy consumption like? Even compared to early years to now? Has that changed? Calcium is dependent in the mechanism of antigen presenting cells in the gut. High calcium foods with gluten grains can initiate inflammation greater.  This is why breakfast cereals and milk combo long term can be a ticking time bomb for genetically susceptible celiacs (not a scientific statement by any means but my current personal opinion based on reasoning at present). Milk and wheat are the top culprits for food sensitivity. Especially in childhood. There are also patient cases of antibodies normalising in celiac children who had milk protein intolerance/ delayed type allergy. Some asymptomatic. There were a couple of cases of suspected celiacs that turned out to have milk protein intolerance that normalised antibodies on a gluten containing diet. Then there were others that only normalised antibodies once gluten and milk was eliminated. Milk kept the antibodies positive. Celiac disease is complicated to say the least.
