  Paghteigh, I can just see you. . . . . . .

Welcome home Rache. No lost here and quite frankly glad I didn't pick up that habit. I AM still watching Grey's. Is anybody else?? I think I may be the last one.

I still watch it!!! I still LOVE it!!! OMG, did you watch the final episode?? My jaw was on the floor 10 minutes in and stayed that way till I started crying towards the end!

Glad Reyschell is back safe and sound. Did you bring back any kilted souveniers?

Alas, he would not fit in my overpacked suitcase ;)

where did you go and glad your home safe and sound

Seattle to see Jess and then onto Victoria for the rest of the week!

Is it Friday yet????

Crap, it's my Monday

I think I may have herniated a disk a couple weeks ago while mowing the lawn (I knew I shouldn't do chores!!!). My leg's been numb since then and yesterday it ached abominably. Fortunately I spend most of my day not sitting, which is easier, but I can't seem to convince anyone that I could do my job just as well from my bed.

Do you have a good chiropractor? Sounds like you might be pinching your sciatic nerve... Been there done that! The first time it happened, I picked my baby out of her crib, lost all function in my left leg and fell to the floor <_< PT did nothing for me, my chiro had me walking immediately!

'Twill be oppressively hot here all week, and humid. 34 C..... . ...and we are not out of MAY, yet!

What does my bra size have to do wif yer weather???:lol:

I phorgot to tell youse guys--2 nights ago I was just about to fall asleep and thought I saw something in the corner of me eye. I turned around and looked, and there was a wee spider on me pillow :o At phirst I thought it was a tick--almost died--but grabbed it wif a white tissue and looked at it wif me reading specs. Twas a wee brown spider.

So, I did the only sensible thing--stripped the bed, put new sheets on and next morning washed the blankie and coverlet. Dusted/vacuumed thoroughly under the bed and fer some reason ran the ceiling phan all day

This is like a horror flick to me!!! You did do the only sensible thing for sure!! Once I woke up, flat on my back and a good sized spider was slowly descending from the ceiling towards my face. The only thing I could do was to quickly roll over to get away from it....Only problem was, I rolled the wrong way and my mattress is 4 feet off the floor.....It hurt :P

Thank GOD for glass!!! I was standing next to this hugeamungus window in the ICU today and there was a giant flash and boom at the same time, blinding me in the left eye, I thought something exploded outside, but then the skies opened up and started pouring rain like I've never seen before. DH was across the street and he SAW the lightning hit right where I was! I'm kinda afraid to go to my car

Indeed. Where is everybody? I have been having intermittent problems with my ISP impeding my access to this site (among others) for the last few days. But it is working at the moment, so here I am.

I've spent the last week running back and forth to a lab across the city to try out a machine my boss wants to buy. Now I'm supposed to analyze the data, compare it to what we use now, and present it at lab meeting tomorrow. Trouble is, the output isn't exactly the same (only one parameter is consistent between the two systems) and I essentially ran three experiments on the new machine, in triplicate (it does more stuff at one time) and now I have, oh.... roughly 7000 data points that I'm supposed to make sense of by 11:30 tomorrow morning, AND have graphs, AND preview the software, AND our cell experiment takes until 9:30 to do. AND I have tickets to Candide so I won't be getting home until almost 11:00 so I'm not entirely certain how coherent I'll be after getting at 4am. I'm not certain how coherent I am now, actually...

We were supposed to get them t-storms yesterday. I'm glad we didn't because I was up on top of a mountain at a microwave site all day. It was drizzly, cold, and VERY windy but no lightning. The thought of lightning when standing in the middle of a half-dozen 150+ foot high metal towers on top of a mountain makes me a little nervous!!!

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
