Carrots, celery, green peppers, cilantro, onions, black beans, white beans, garlic powder, ham, home made turkey broth. Crock over night, then add smoked paprika and a little hot sauce.

I made this today. Used Kitchen Basics veg broth. Came out delicious. Cooked too fast so I will re- heat it for dinner. Thanks, Jess!

Awesome! It's pretty much my mom's soup recipe. I have fond memories of stuffing myself on this growing up.

My mom would have made it the same way but without the green pepper, cilantro, paprika, celery, carrots, garlic...anything with flavor. :P

BE asked me this weekend if there were anything he's doing, or not doing, that needs to be changed. I told him I really would like to be 'courted' a little more, maybe taken out somewhere once in a while.

He called today and asked if he could court me this evening. Perhaps take me out for dinner and drinks.

How often do you find a man who actually listens to what you say.

And, as a bonus, I'm hoping to borrow his staple gun. I'll let you know if that works out.

Update:

First, to bring all psillies up to speed . . . Skeeter (code name for me daughter) participated in a scavanger hunt at her orthodontist's office. She had to get her picture taken (with a banner from the office or wearing her T-shirt which had the office's name on it) with/at 100 different items/locations. Stuff like . . . in the produce aisle, making a snowman, at the beach (but NOT making a snowman AT the beach, that would be psillie), at a theme park, with a policeman, with a clown, with yellow flowers, with your favorite teacher, on a ferris wheel, doing kareaoke, on a trampoline, dressed as a hippie, dressed as the opposite sex, at a river, at a concert, with a lobster, with a rainbow, on a boat . . . get the idea?

Three kids out of the whole office completed the entire list so their names went into a drawing . . . and Skeeter won. She won a Dell mini laptop - Nickelodean edition. It's actually a cute little computer. I told her she won something (but didn't tell her she won the top prize) and that we had to go pick it up at the Ortho office. She was blown away . . . and really put on the excited/freaked out/giggly 9-yr-old girl show at the office and made the staff's day.

elye Community Regular

Well done, Skeeter!! :D :D And what a prize! Jyaghnutt, you realize that you could have kept her victory quiet from her, sold the computer on ebay and put the cash toward your massive active ortho bill. Guess it's too late now, huh? <_<

Congrats to Skeeter! That was a lot of work for her mom!

Pheline phurry phun here tonight. Becky, who lives at the store, is visiting us at home overnight. She is going to see the vet in the morning. We tried letting her run loose, but the three resident phelines all got their backs up. We didn't want to confine her cuz she claws at the carpet under the door trying to get loose.

Current status: She is locked in the master bedroom, and we have a shock mat deployed beside the door. She touched it once. We think she got the message.

She had been on a weight-loss diet for about a year, but in the summer we had her teeth cleaned of tartar. Since then she has been increasingly demanding of food. In the last few weeks she has ripped open six bags of food in the store. She has put some weight back on, and is limping again.

Obviously, this can not continue. We are trying to find a solution which keeps the weight off her without destroying store inventory. She is at risk for pheline diabetes, and there is no way we can keep her in the store while adhering to the needed insulin injection schedule. If she develops diabetes, she will have to come home (the trial tonight was not successful), or find another home. We do have an option available there.

Dang!!! I had not thought of that!!! . . . yep, too late now . . . ;)

. . . and Karen, Hubby was the one who did most of the work. I knew she had a good shot at it as this was right up his alley as far activities go . . . "Hey, let's go to the State Fair . . . we can get a picture with the ferris wheel, with a clown, on the tractor, with a turkey, and eating ice cream all in one day!!"

Hows about surrounding your inventory of cat food by shock mats?

Hey!! At this time of year I need a couple of shock mats right in front of my fridge.. . . . .... ..Where do I pick these things up, POeter?

psawyer Proficient

The device is a Open Original Shared Link. We used to carry them when the product was produced by Contech. It was taken over last year by PetSafe. You may be able to find it at PetSmart. You may also find it online at the site named after a large South American river.

Jess- Hub loved the ham & bean soup, too. He used the Frank's hot sauce. If the scientist thing doesn't work out, maybe you could be personal chef? I think I have about $24.47 in my purse.

@xxnonamexx, There's labeling on those Trubar gluten free high fiber protein bars that say: "Manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts, milk, soy, fish, WHEAT, sesame, and other tree nuts." You may want to avoid products made in shared facilities.   If you are trying to add more fiber to your diet to ease constipation, considering eating more leafy green vegetables and cruciferous vegetables.  Not only are these high in fiber, they also are good sources of magnesium.  Many newly diagnosed are low in magnesium and B vitamins and suffer with constipation.  Thiamine Vitamin B1 and magnesium work together.  Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine has been shown to improve intestinal health.  Thiamine and magnesium are important to gastrointestinal health and function.

Welcome to celiac.com @sha1091a! Your experience is a very common one. Celiac disease is one the most underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed medical conditions out there. The reasons are numerous. One key one is that its symptoms mimic so many other diseases. Another is ignorance on the part of the medical community with regard to the range of symptoms that celiac disease can produce. Clinicians often are only looking for classic GI symptoms and are unaware of the many other subsystems in the body that can be damaged before classic GI symptoms manifest, if ever they do. Many celiacs are of the "silent" variety and have few if any GI symptoms while all along, damage is being done to their bodies. In my case, the original symptoms were elevated liver enzymes which I endured for 13 years before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. By the grace of God my liver was not destroyed. It is common for the onset of the disease to happen 10 years before you ever get a diagnosis. Thankfully, that is slowly changing as there has developed more awareness on the part of both the medical community and the public in the past 20 years or so. Blessings!

@EndlessSummer, You said you had an allergy to trees.  People with Birch Allergy can react to green beans (in the legume family) and other vegetables, as well as some fruits.  Look into Oral Allergy Syndrome which can occur at a higher rate in Celiac Disease.   Switching to a low histamine diet for a while can give your body time to rid itself of the extra histamine the body makes with Celiac disease and histamine consumed in the diet.   Vitamin C and the eight B vitamins are needed to help the body clear histamine.   Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?

I found out the age of 68 that I am a celiac. When I was 16, I had my gallbladder removed when I was 24 I was put on a medication because I was told I had fibromyalgia.   going to Doctor’s over many years, not one of them thought to check me out for celiac disease. I am aware that it only started being tested by bloodwork I believe in the late 90s, but still I’m kind of confused why my gallbladder my joint pain flatulent that I complained of constantly was totally ignored. Is it not something that is taught to our medical system? It wasn’t a Doctor Who asked for the test to be done. I asked for it because of something I had read and my test came back positive. My number was quite high. Are there other people out here that had this kind of problems and they were ignored?
    • trents
Welcome to celiac.com, @EndlessSummer! Do you react to all vegetables or just specific kinds or families of them? What you describe with green beans sounds like it has an anaphylaxis component. Like you, walnuts are a problem for me. They will often give me a scratchy throat so I try to avoid them. Does it matter if the vegies are raw or will-cooked in how you react to them?
