Do you know what yer sister uses to wash her hair by any chance? B)

Nope, but I do know it is not Round Up or Malathion :lol:

She was horrified that I used to use Redken products - now it's Tea Tree oil.

I'm going to pick up some California Baby when I get to Target over the weekend. They have a "super sensitive" line. I would love to use something that I can walk into a store and buy.

Thanks Nik :)

Bev's email's been scammed. Don't open the 'dear friend' mail if you get one.

Tis true. I think opening the email, if you did, will not cause problems. If you actually thought it was ME- a few people, no psillies th- did and clicked on the link. If you clicked on the link, change your email password too sweet! My computer programmer telehubby assures me this is all you have to do. Sorry :(

OK . . . I'm sure that you don't have anything else going on right now . . . but have you ever thought of making your own shampoo?

Patti- This whole thing stinks! Kurt is having an issue with his hands- he was allergy tested and found to be allergic to potassium dichromate. You should see the list of stuff it's in- it's most commonly found in leather so got rid of leather belt (stomach), cover for steering wheel. Still breaking out in horrific eczema. Eliminated more stuff and it started to get better. It's finally MOSTLY under control (but he's still trying to figure out shampoo). Looked like he had leprosy for awhile there.

It could be a random chemical like this- maybe you should do the patch testing. No fun but might get you some answers.

Jan-it, it's phunny you should suggest that. I spent some time this afternoon reading up on just that. It may come to it.

I just made my own perfume- it's kind of fun!

How's our Shroomie feeling?

I am ALL OVER the World Cup. Go Brazil!

What are all you Americans doing for the holiday? I cannot believe it's almost July!

Bought some Zevia at Whole Foods yesterday. I'm trying to eliminate aspartame from my diet and I just can't seem to give up me diet soft drinks. I've reduced it to about four a week but can't seem to go below. I want to see if it makes any difference in me achy knees. It's not bad, but I'm not overly impressed. I've only had one and it will take me a while to adjust. Anybody else drink this? . . . or have a recommendation for a different stevia-based soft drink?

Both boys will be working to about 1 a.m. at the fireworks stand. On the 5th, the firework stand owners have a picnic and a big field to shoot the fireworks in. They hire a really nice professional fireworks show. You haven't seen a fireworks show until you lay back in your chair and the ashes rain down on you. :)

Sounds great, Kerrighn. I love fireworks. Over Memorial Day Weekend, one of the nights we could see a display from our driveway that was coming from a park about 8 miles away.

Queen Elizabeth and Ol' Phil landed in Halifax this morning, and they'll be here in Ottawa on Canada Day. Methinks the organizers should arrange to have her set off the first huge firework over Parliament Hill - - much like her smashing bottles on the bows of maiden ships.

She would likely be right on board to do this.. . ..and she's still got amazingly steady hands, great reflexes... . .....

Skeeter light bulb moment . . . with all this talk of chemical/smell sensitivity . . .

While I was gone to Maine, I had the outside of my house painted. They came back today to work on a few outstanding items. The front door needed to be sealed and the back door needed to be painted. Skeeter just came up to me and said . . . "Remember that time I took a shower right after you cleaned it and the cleaner smell made me sick? I'm starting to feel that way again." I have sent her outside to read her book. If it gets too bad, she might spend the night at Grandma's house. This has got me thinking though . . . after I found and removed the item with barley from her diet . . . what if all the other "reactions" have been to a chemical/cleaner from the school. She has not had any kind of reaction since school let out . . . despite eating out more often and sharing kitchens with people who are not used to scrutinizing their actions for cc behavioUr.

Things that make you go "hmmmmmmm...."

Been there! So great when the large pieces of shrapnel come down and hit you in the head. We had to hide under a blanket for most of the show

Soooooooo Exhausted!!!! All I want to do is sleep :( Goin to see the new Twilight movie with about 10 other gals tomorrow night, so I need to rest up! The kids have been at each other non-stop and we've only bee on "summer break" for 1 week <_< I locked them both in a room together yesterday and went to another floor in the house so I didn't have to hear them. I was thinking-Survival of the Fittest, maybe just one would prevail and my house would be quiet again  Cannae handle this for 2 more months!

Think I shall go visit Jess--You know what an awesome meal we could make outta that watermelon and the booze ;)

I remember being 16, working at my first job and having to call my dad to come and get me after I almost fainted. I wore perfume that day, which I normally didn't do, and managed to stagger to my boss's office before I dropped into the chair. As a kid, things like that would bother me, but I would forget pretty fast until the next time.

A similar thing happened about 5-6 years ago when we had our basement finished. Another of many over the years....

FWIW, my Ear, Nose & Throat doctor here told me that it's not at all unusual for them to see this kind of allergy/sensitivity with Celiac patients.

@Colleen H   I am just curious,  when you were tested for coeliac disease, did the doctors find out if you had any deficiencies? Sometimes muscle pain can be caused by certain deficiencies, for example, magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.   Might be worth looking into having some more tests.  Pins and needles can be neuropathy, again caused by deficiencies, such as iron and B12,  which can be reversed if these deficiencies are addressed. In the UK where I live we are usually only tested for iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies at diagnosis.   I was very iron anemic and supplementation made a big difference.  B12 was low normal, but in other countries the UK's low normal would be considered a deficiency.  My vitamin D was low normal, and I've been supplementing ever since (when I remember to take it!) My pins and needles definitely started to improve when my known deficiencies were addressed.  My nutritionist also gave me a broad spectrum supplement which really helped, because I suspect I wasn't just deficient in what I mention above but in many other vitamins and minerals.  But a word of warning, don't take iron unless blood tests reveal you actually need it, and if you are taking it your levels must be regularly monitored because too much can make you ill.  (And if you are currently taking iron, that might actually be making your stomach sore - it did mine, so my GP changed my iron supplementation to a gentler form, ferrous gluconate). Lastly, have you been trying to take anything to lessen the pain in your gut?  I get a sore stomach periodically, usually when I've had too much rich food, or when I have had to take an aspirin or certain antibiotics, or after glutening.  When this happens, I take for just a few days a small daily dose of OTC omeprazole.  I also follow a reflux or gastritis diet. There are lots online but the common denominators to these diets is you need to cut out caffeine, alcohol, rich, spicy, acidic food etc and eat small regularly spaced meals.   When I get a sore stomach, I also find it helpful to drink lots of water.  I also find hot water with a few slices of ginger very soothing to sip, or camomile tea.  A wedge pillow at night is good for reflux. Also,  best not to eat a meal 2-3 hours before going to bed. If the stomach pain is getting worse, though, it would be wise to see the doctor again. I hope some of this helps. Cristiana

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease a couple of years ago [ish]. I love my food and a variety of food, so it's been hard, as it is with everyone. I try and ensure everything I eat doesn't contain gluten, but occasionally I think something must have got through that has gluten in. Mainly I know because I have to dash to the loo, but recently I have noticed that I feel nauseous after possibly being glutened. I think the thing that I have got better at is knowing what to do when I feel wiped out after a gluten 'episode'. I drink loads of water, and have just started drinking peppermint tea. I also have rehydration powders to drink. I don't feel like eating much, but eventually feel like I need to eat. Gluten free flapjacks, or gluten free cereal, or a small gluten free kids meal are my go to. I am retired, so luckily I can rest, sometimes even going to bed when nothing else works. So I feel that I am getting better at knowing how to try and get back on track. I am also trying to stick to a simpler menu and eat mostly at home so that I can be more confident about what I am eating. THANKS TO THOSE WHO REPLIED ABOUT THE NAUSEA .

Thanks. Since the back and forth and promises of review and general stalling went on for more than six months, the credit company will no longer investigate. They have a cutoff of maybe six months.
    • Scott Adams
Is this the same restaurant? https://www.facebook.com/TheHappyTartFallsChurch/ Is it too late to take this up with your credit card company? Normally you have a few months to do a chargeback with them. It seems very odd that they are taking this approach with someone who is likely to be a regular customer--not a good business-minded way of handling things!
    • Scott Adams
Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.
