Hi Sillies!

This weekend has been nuts!

We had Landen on Friday night and everything was ok. He came at 6 and was doing well until 7:20...when all of a sudden he started screaming bloody murder and nothing would stop. We could not console him at all....I was so scared because I could not understand what was going on. When it lasted over 45 minutes I called his mom who came home and he did stop....didnt have a fever but he seemed awful lathergic. I felt bad she had to come home from work...well later that night she called, he had a temp of 101.3.

Anyway yesterday I went to my moms, didnt see Patti on the way. I had to make 3 stops along the way due to cramps and "D" I am blaming it on the previous nights events. I did have a great time with my mom.

Last night John and I were supposed to meet Jen and Landen at Wegmans. Well Landen had been good in the morning but in the afternoon once again he was not himself. When it was time to go to Wegmans Landen broke into another screaming fit. He screams like he was in pain. It was 7:30. So they never got to meet them at the store. When we got home Jen said she thinks he is changing his bedtime schedule to an earlier time. During his crying fit she put him in his crib and he went right to bed.

This morning I got a message from her, he was up screaming all night.....We didnt hear him but still....She says it is a low fever but everything else is fine. They come upstairs to see us. He seems happy to see me but within minutes we are screaming....I think I found the answer!

Teething! John had suggested it but neither of us saw anything in the gums to support it. Well, he does have all the other symptoms....runny nose, slight cough, small fever.....I gave him a popsicle and he was very happy with it....so we googled it and found that he matched that to a T. Some babies gum never show evidence of teething until the teeth pop through....

So after my meltdown on Friday where I told John I did not want kids....because I didnt think I could ever help them and I was scared....well I helped Jen this morning....but what a nutsy weekend.

How is everyone else?

I used to tutor it - what class are you taking?

Stuck on anything? Lemme at it!! :) :)

Hmmm got a surprise call from Dorene - she's the one who credits/blames me for her becoming a HUGE basketball fan, starting when we went out ~1990.

Maybe not such a surprise since I did call yesterday, but only to see about meeting for coffee since I was going anyway. And only got to leave a msg.

Shocked however, when we hung up that we'd been talking for AN HOUR!!!

I never used to be on the ph for much more than 10min, and usually less.

Another reminder of how much things have changed . .. ..

Yes, I am younger than my 30 year old friend... by exactly one month. :D Her b-day is April 8th, mine is May 8th. Kinda like the younger twin calling the older one "Grandma."

Amanda... Landen's symptoms also really sounded like an ear infection to me. Poor baby. Keep us updated!

Gawd... I take it back, I still don't feel good.

Yes, Amanda.....poor Landen, and poor you! That was a good trial by fire...you lived through that, you can be a parent. And you two should so obviously be parents--hurry up and get pregnant, Amanda! We are not functioning within a democracy, so things will always be somewhat complex. We're not in a true monarchy, either. You are not born into your position, you fall into it by hitting the right post number. It's a postocracy. We need to PM Scott, and have him judge who is the royal ruler for these 100 pages. I'm sure he has never dealt with this kind of repercussion from intervening in a thread.

Now, I am certain that Scott believes me to be out of my mind, so I'd best not be addressing him on this. Anyone?

Yes, a situation for which we have no precedent to look to. I think I may have had something to say either involving a figurehead or a puppet government or maybe a lame duck but I'm feeling very sleepy this evening and my brain is already half asleep. ^_^

Guess what I did yesterday evening! Ryan and I drank hot chocolate and played Scrabble and Sorry! by the light of our (gas) fireplace whilst I imagined we were at our beach house on the Cape. Who needs a house on the Cape when you have a good imagination!

Ok....after this message another turn of events took place. After my popsicle the baby slept and was peaceful the rest of this afternoon. I texted Jen on our way home from the grocery store. Jen called as I was writing the message. She got a call from work and was hassled into coming into work...by a threatening boss who flat out said she didnt care about sick kids etc. What a B-Zitch!

Jen arranged for her nurse friend to watch Landen since they had talked after Jen got the call and since it was not our regular night. Jen explained the baby was teething so he may be unhappy. The girl said it didnt matter.

Jen dropped him off and he was crying. He calmed down and Jen had to rush to work since she was told to be there by 7 or she was going to be docked for it. She had gotten the call to work at 4:45 and she had to take him 45 mins to the babysitters.

So Jen was almost to work and her friend called...and said he was screaming uncontrollably and nothing would soothe him. She then said he might be teething but she thinks something else is wrong with him. I told Jen if I was her I would have turned right around and went to pick up her baby but she was against the wall in the work situation and after missing a lot of work when he had the RSV she was in trouble. The nurse friend took his temp, rectally and it was 103. This also made her believe something else was wrong. She also told Jen if she could not get him calmed down she was taking him to the ER. The ER would not be at our hospital since this girl was too far away.

So Jen told me she would call me with any news...no word yet.

But what do you all think? My mom and I both agree something else has to be going on with this baby....its not missing his mom, or just plain teething. We watch him again on Friday night but I am scared to in a way....unless she finds out what is going on.

The nurse tonight also said he never acts like this at her house. So I know its nothing like us either. So I am just worried. What could be going on.

Time to go fold work clothes. If I dont talk to you guys tonight I'll touch base in the morning....

Ridgewalker Contributor

Amanda,

I'm betting on an ear infection. That fever is too high to be from teething, and it usually doesn't cause enough pain for as much crying and screaming as poor Landen is doing. Ear infections on the other hand, can be hideously painful. I would take him to the dr. first thing in the morning. Poor Jen! If her boss doesn't care about employees' sick kids, then she is a crappy manager. I'd be looking around for something else, if it were me.

If it is an ear infection, Tylenol will not touch the pain. He needs an anti-inflammatory, like Infant's Motrin!!! (And an antibiotic, obviously.)

Keep us updated!

Susie,

I just made a batch of those Brazillian Cheese Rolls..... They... are... heaven!!!!!!!!!!! I have a new favorite sandwich bread! They are the quickest, easiest thing ever, too! :P

My honest thoughts are he never got better from the RSV in Feb.

i totally agree!! tell jen that Sillyville demands she find a new job w/a nicer manager :D

ok random question: does anyone have a good company or quick & easy recipe for gluten-free ravioli?? my whole family had that and garlic breadsticks tonight and i almost started crying... probably had to do with me being sick and kinda worn out, but still...

hmmm... one more thing... this extra credit, my math teacher said i had to email it to her by tomorrow morning... if i emailed more tomorrow, how early in the morning do you think i would have to email it to her for her to accept it?? answer quick please!! supposed to be in bed in ... uh... like 8 minutes -_-

I'd say as long as it's before she gets to her office, that should be good.

Well, one thing I can tell you is that Luke and Ezra have had a combined total of something 15 ear infections, and they NEVER acted like their ear hurt at all until the last one that Ezra had-- he woke up one morning crying, and then it turned into screaming. This was just a few months ago! Ugh, it was awful. I was shocked that that one hurt so much, when they hadn't before.

Of course, for that one, the doctor said it actually looked like swimmer's ear. I'm pretty sure it was from the fact that he dunks his head under in the bathtub. Well... he USED TO.

I don't really know much about RSV... poor baby. I'll be thinking about him tonight!!!

Morning, gang!

Ugh....Poor little Landen! My DD had three or four ear infections as a baby, and I remember fits of screaming. This would be my guess, as they are so easily developed in a little one's ears. Milk seems to be very often coupled with chronic ear trouble--something maybe his mom should keep in mind if he gets many of them.... :(

Morning Everyone!

No word on Landen yet so hopefully he is good. Jen would have gotten out of work at 7:30 so if all went well she would be on her way to the sitters as we speak. I'll keep everyone posted.

Happy Monday everyone, I am so tired all I want to do is crawl back into bed. I am sitting here and I can feel my eyes drooping....we should get nap time at work!

Update

Jen just called. The baby screamed all last night for the sitter. So she called the Dr. They will not give her an appointment with the Dr since he has not been sick long enough. They told her she needs to bleach her entire house top to bottom. She is going to try to grab a 2nd opinion now so hopefully she gets somewhere. They always say a mothers instinct and she says she herself feels like something else is going on.

They also told her there is no way he could have an ear infection either since just finished his antibiotics a week ago....my thoughts on that is yes he can, sometimes certain antibiotics do not work for certain people....

What is wrong with the world?

Glad you had a nice time and your mom had fun with her new bib :D

I'm back!!!!! B)

Had a great time--my dad was truly surprised. He is a very quiet gentleman, and true to form, after we all yelled "Surprise" upon his arrival--he calmly turned to me and said--"everyone's here.":lol:

Twas a bit dicey the first hour or so of the drive up--felt some creeping panic but was able to breathe out of it eventually. Amanda--I did look for you--we probably just missed each other. I'm so sorry about poor little Landon.

It was so nice to see everyone--can't remember the last time I laughed so much! When we got into town, we drove by the church we were married in--it was 33 years to the day and almost (by the time we got there) to the hour! Pretty cool....it looked exactly the same :)

I pooped on late last night when we got home--needed my Sillie fix--but was tired so I didn't post. I think there were like 3 or 4 pages to catch up on :P

It's SO good to be home :D

I just want to clarify that what I posted is a category of research summaries we've done over the years, and nearly each one shows that there is definitely a connection to celiac disease and migraine headaches. The latest study said: "the study did indicate some potential causal associations between celiac disease and migraine with or without aura, as well as between migraine without aura and ulcerative colitis...this study did not find evidence of a shared genetic basis..." Anyway, there is definitely a connection, and you can go through more of the articles here if you're interested: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/celiac-disease-amp-related-diseases-and-disorders/migraine-headaches-and-celiac-disease/

Two months ago, I started taking Dupixent for dermatitis herpetiformis and it has completely cleared it up. I can't believe it! I have had a terrible painful, intensely itchy rash for over a year despite going fully gluten-free. See if your doctor will prescribe Dupixent. It can be expensive but I am getting it free. When the dermatitis herpetiformis was bad I could not do anything. I just lay in bed covered in ice packs to ease the pain/itching and using way too Clobetasol. Dapsone is also very good for dermatitis herpetiformis (and it is generic). It helped me and the results were immediate but it gave me severe anemia so the Dupixent is better for me. Not sure if it works for everyone. I cannot help with the cause of your stress but from experience I am sure the severe stress is making the celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis worse. Very difficult for you with having children to care for and you being so sick. Would this man be willing to see a family therapist with you? He may be angry at you or imagine that your illness is a psychosomatic excuse not to take care of him. A therapist might help even if he won't go with you. Also do you have any family that you could move in with (with the kids) for a short time to get away? A break may be good for you both.

@tiffanygosci, Thiamine deficiency is a thing in pregnancy for "normal" people, so it's exponentially more important for those with celiac disease and malabsorption issues. I studied nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology because I was curious what the vitamins were doing inside the body.  See my blog.  Click on my name to go to my page, scroll to drop down menu "activities" and select blog.   So glad you're motivated to see the dietician!  We're always happy to help with questions.  Keep us posted on your progress!
    • tiffanygosci
Thank you for sharing all of this, Knitty Kitty! I did just want someone to share some commonality with. I did not know This one Deficiency was a thing and that it's common for Celiac Disease. It makes sense since this is a disorder that causes malabsorption. I will have to keep this in mind for my next appointments. You also just spurred me on to make that Dietician appointment. There's a lot of information online but I do need to see a professional. There is too much to juggle on my own with this condition.<3

I think your initial idea, eat gluten and be tested, was excellent. Now you have fear of that testing, but isn’t there also a fear each time you eat gluten that you’re injuring your body? Possibly affecting future fertility, bone health and more? Wouldn’t it be better to know for sure one way or the other? If you test negative, then you celebrate and get tested occasionally to make sure the tests don’t turn positive again. If you test positive, of course the recommendation from me and others is to stop gluten entirely.  But if you’re unable to convince yourself to do that, could a positive test at least convince you to minimize your gluten consumption?  Immune reactions are generally what is called dose response, the bigger the dose, the bigger the response (in this case, damage to your intestines and body). So while I am NOT saying you should eat any gluten with a positive test, the less the better.
