Hi,

Been celiac since baby. Been gluten free for bout 5 months. Don´t post often ´cos i don`t know much and my DH works away for every month out of 2 so I´m single and married alternately.

I´ve been reading posts and haven´t seen any from GFP or a while. This saddens me because I´ve learned a lot from what he has to say and have also been given food for thought from his comments. Also from Carla B and Ursaula and numerous others that I can´t list cos it´d take forever.

Keep up the good work guys and thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that he accidentally hit ALL of his "ignore" buttons, instead of just one. Ooops, (looking around) who said that

FULL MOON TONIGHT.

Come back Steve, come back. :D

CarlaB Enthusiast

I was thinking the same thing ... I PM'd him a week or so ago but didn't hear back.

Guest melannen

his profile says the last time he was online was the 29th of Oct

jerseyangel Proficient

I noticed him online early (here) one morning recently. I wonder what happened

Lisa Mentor

Ya know, I have found that after some time you get used to handling things on your own and some have just drifted away.

Steve was (is) a very informative part of this forum and has helped sooo many. His intellect and detail was well known.

Other, than that, he will have to answer that question.

I have always thought that this forum held a vast amount of highly intelligent people who were willing to donate their time here with the assistance of others. So many are still with us.

If you have question, please feel comfortable to ask. :)

You have been dealing with this all you life. You may have some questions. But, also, you have 41 years of knowledge. Someone out there needs the answers that you can share.

Please jump in here and join us again. You most likely, have more information in your little finger, than most of us can learn.

I for one, would welcome your input. :)

I haven´t , cos my mother did it all until I was 17 and knew better, then when I was ill for 20 odd years old the arrogance of youth set in eh??? So. I am the font of all knowledge(25 years later). What an idiot!! In additition to this, it was all free in the UK!! How Clever was I??????

But, <<<<<<i do not feel betrayed, let down or anything else, just extremely stupid!!!!!!!!

Every day is a new beginning. :)

Let me lay low from here. Maybe Steve will come out. After all, the post was about where he was.

I miss Steve too. I hope he comes back. He was a fellow science and information JUNKIE. Hope he sees this.

We miss you Steve! Come back!

I am afraid he has left for good. I don't really want to put the reason out in the open in a thread, because it would turn into another one of those that goes on and on and on, and fighting will break out...............

I have his e-mail address, but he hasn't answered my last e-mail, either. So, I am not sure what's happening right now.

He won't be reading this thread, and he won't likely answer even if he does (I can't imagine that his curiosity won't get the better of him at times, and that he won't read anything here ever again).

It is not anything any of us regular posters has done or said. There was an issue that upset him enough to leave, though.

I anybody wants more of an answer, pm me.

DILIROTH Newbie

Maybe he is on vacation?

It is Toussaint vacation in France and many people go away for the Holidays.

I hope that he comes back because he was very informative!!!

Okay, being on vacation would answer why I haven't heard from him. But I am serious when I say that he won't be back.

Oh, wow...what an enormous loss. I looked so forward to reading anything gfp posted, and felt lucky to be sharing a forum with someone as erudite and well-informed. Ursula, I'm very tempted to pm you, but I'm afraid you may be inundated with emails from people wanting to know why he's gone. Is there some way you can generally inform us all on here, without stepping on any administrative or personal toes?

Again, wow... :(

Lisa Mentor

I think he is on Sabbatical. Steve will be back, when he is ready.

DingoGirl Enthusiast

Ursula...I sent you a pm, your box is full! I am so sad....I loved his posts.

I think I may have contributed to his departure, I have a sinking feeling  because I think he commented on somethign and didn't like the extremely goofy slant we've been leaning toward (some of us, anyway)......and I know he didn't like it.

I was not going to answer your post Susan, but I don't want you to think you are to blame. You are not. The only thing I know is that someone pressed the report button on him and I don't know anything else. So no one needs to PM me to ask.

Personally I have been busy and mostly looking for help with baking but I'd like to add that GFP is really a great person and even told me where to shop in Paris while on vacation. He knew were my hotel was and told me right where to go accross the street. DH was concerned I told someone online where we were staying but I never said the exact date AND I doubted people who are stalkers would look for victims on celiac.com. Anyway, hope you are okay GFP whereever you are. I look foward to meeting you in Paris of Atlanta one of these days.

I liked Gfp's post and always appreciated the effort he put into them. I hope he will return.

If you are reading this Gfp, :) .

The only thing I know is that someone pressed the report button on him and I don't know anything else.

So I have a question that is a little off topic, but not too much. I started to pm the question but I thought others here may benefit from the answer as well.

What happens when you hit the report button? Not too long ago, I meant to hit "reply" and hit "report" I'm pretty sure I cancelled/backed out of it, but I'm not really positive. I don't even know who I did this to, but it is someone I did "reply" to correctly after . Pretty positive it wasn't GFP, but I do hope that whomever I mistakenly "reported" in the midst of my cross-eyed tiredness, really wasn't.

But that has worried me since I read Mouse's response....golly it wasn't even a controversial post....it was some recipe or something perfectly and completely benign.

Not to worry!

To actually report someone or something, you would first hit report and then write out exactly what you are reporting. Then, you would have to submit the report by hitting that button.

If all you did was hit report, most likely nothing at all happened--and you certainly did not report anyone. :)

I've been so busy lately, I haven't had time to check the board. I am also sorry to read that gfp is not going to be posting anymore. I've learned a lot from his past posts, and he's got a good sense of humor.

AndreaB Contributor

I miss gfp's posts as well. :(

Hope his sabbatical won't be too terribly long.

This kills me! I kept wondering where he was, but I didn't want to bug him by starting a "Where are you" post. I checked his "last time he was on the boards" info on the 30th (which was the day after his last visit, evidently) and was reassured because he'd been on just the night before. Darn it.

Ursula . . . if you get a chance to communicate with him, please tell him he is missed.

GFBetsy Rookie

I was just reading a post and my heart leaped about a foot when I saw that gfp had responded to the initial post . . . but then I saw that the date was sometime in August. Now I'm bummed out again.

Hello, My 17 yr old daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease 2 yrs ago. She does not have gum disease and no history of cavities. Her dentist is recommending braces for her lower teeth but I read it may worsen gum recession or possibly increase cavity risk which I know are already issues for patients with celiac. Has anyone here had braces and did it cause any problems or issues with gum recession?  Her dentist seemed oblivious that celiac patients are at higher risk of gum disease /cavities. Her bottom teeth are crooked but are pretty hidden even when she smiles. Thank you!!

This is a common experience across the board with various brands of gluten-free bread products. Prices go up, size goes down. Removal of the egg component may be for the purpose of cost-cutting related to bird flu supply shortages or it may be catering to those with egg allergy/sensitivity, fairly common in the celiac community.

Living with Coeliac Disease since birth, Bread has always been an issue, never too nice, small slices and always overpriced, But Sainsbury's Free From White Sliced Bread seemed to me to be an exception with it's large uniform 12 x 12cm slices that had the bounce, texture and taste of white bread even after toasting with no issue that it was also Milk Free. Unfortunately Sainsbury's have changed the recipe and have made it 'Egg Free' too and it has lost everything that made the original loaf so unique. Now the loaf is unevenly risen with 8 x 8cm slices at best, having lost it's bounce with the texture dense and cake like after toasting resembling nothing like White Bread anymore. Unsure as to why they have had to make it 'Egg Free' as the price is the same at £1.90 a loaf. Anyone else experiencing the same issue with it? - also any recommendations for White Bread that isn't prescription? / Tesco's / Asda's are ok but Sainsbury's was superior.

Years  ago a friend and I drove north into Canada hoping to find a ski resort open in late spring,We were in my VW and found a small ski area near a small town and started up this gravelled road up a mountain. We  got about halfway up and got stuck in the mud. We tried everything we could think of but an hour later we were still stuck. Finally a pickup came down the road, laughed at our situation, then pulled the VW free of the mud. We followed him back to the ski area where where he started up the rope ski lift and we had an enjoyable hour of skiing and gave us a shot of aquavit  before we left.It was a great rescue.  In some ways this reminds me of your situation. You are waiting for a rescue and you have chosen medical practitioners to do it now or as soon as possible. As you have found out the med. experts have not learned how to help you. You face years of continuing to feel horrible, frustrated searching for your rescuer to save you. You can break away from from this pattern of thinking and you have begun breaking  away by using some herbs and supplements from doTerra. Now you can start trying some of the suggestions thatother Celiacs have written to your original posts.  You live with other people who eat gluten foods. Cross contamination is very possible. Are you sure that their food is completely separate from their food. It  is not only the gluten grains you need to avoid (wheat, barley, rye) but possibly oats, cows milk also. Whenever you fall back into that angry and frustrated way of thinking get up and walk around for a whild. You will learn ways to break that way of thinking about your problems.  Best wishes for your future. May you enjpy a better life.

Thanks for responding. I researched further and Lindt Lindor chocolate balls do contain barely malt powder which contains gluten. I was surprised at all of the conflicting information I found when I checked online.
