I just received this from the makers of Cetaphil this morning. As I was scanning through previous posts about lotions I came across one that stated Cetaphil is safe. Sadly is doesn't seem to be the case.

Only the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is gluten-free.

I hope you find this information helpful.

So I guess I am destined to have dry itchy skin forever. To top it off I just found out that the health food store that I frequent for most of my products and the one that happens to carry most of the items recommended by everyone here is CLOSED for 2 weeks while they relocate. Maybe I'll find a better place today while I'm out and about! :rolleyes:

Does this include their soap?

You could try CeraVe lotion. You can get it as Walgreens and CVS. I think it's a better mosturizer than Cetaphil.

I am assuming that anything but that one product has gluten in it somewhere. I did a ton of reading on old posts about lotions and decided to try the Kiss My Face Olive Oil soap and coconut oil and what an amazing difference already. For the first time in weeks my skin doesn't hurt. I will keep that lotion in mind though, once the weather gets hot again I may need to use something a little lighter

Just got this from the manufacturers of Cetaphil (Canada) yesterday. I called because Oct. 2005 I was told everything but Capex (a prescription shampoo) was gluten-free.

Have you tried Glaxal Base? It is the cream that prescriptions are made with. I've found it to be the best for use on sensitive skin. Very thick, not greasy...from what I have been able to find out, the only ingredient is petroleum jelly. Would be worth a call to confirm though.

I've spent the week dealing with finding decent gluten free personal care products, having had to give up my Cetaphil lotion and just about everything else I was using! As previously stated, the Gentle Cleanser IS gluten-free, but nothing else at this time. I have found an AWESOME lotion, though. Lame Advertisement Body Lotion. They actually have a bunch of lotions and cosmetics that are gluten free. All I've tried so far is the body lotion and hand lotion. Love them both. A bit pricey but totally worth it. I figure I deserve a little luxury given how ratty my hair is looking! :) What's everyone's favorite gluten-free shampoo, conditioner, styling products? All of mine contained gluten. Trying Garnier Fructis (per company yesterday, the entire line is gluten-free) but my hair is just not what it used to be with Pantene and TIGI products. Thanks!

PS. I also have the current list of Bobbi Brown gluten-free cosmetics if anyone is interested. And the entire line of Loreal Vive Pro is gluten-free.

Teamworkjr, maybe you can find that Kiss My Face soap locally. Its cheap and even my husband likes it! Favorite hair care line is Aquage. Its a salon product but I find it works very well to keep my hair in shape. I have heard quite a bit about Lame Advertisement products but I'm afraid they are a bit out of my price range but I did try some samples and reacted to something in it. What I would give for a normal autoimmune system some days! :rolleyes: Finally favorite makeup is Everyday minerals..read about it on here and I love it. They offer a free trial pack as well!

Beats me why they say it's different. I posted around Oct. 25/05 the results of my talk with Todd at Cetaphil and he said that both the Canadian and U.S. products are manufactured at the same plant. I didn't call an 866 # though.

I called 1-800-467-2081 (Galderma Canada).

Michi8 - I don't need to know if it's gluten-free for me, I just don't want to put on hand lotion and then wash it off immediately if I'm making something for Ty to eat - seems wasteful.

Thank you guys for the info . . . . I knew about the lotion -- found out the hard way, then called!! Talk about backward thinking. I use the gentle skin cleanser, asked for it for Christmas in my stocking, but got the normal to oily cleanser instead. That's not gluten-free, huh? Doggonit!

My sister-in-law gave me an Lame Advertisement catalog, but the representative didn't know about the gluten-free status of anything. It's good to know that there's a lot of things that are . . . .

Beverly (Mtndog) said that Lumene products -- available at CVS -- are all gluten-free.

I HATED to give up my TIGI products -- Bed Head -- they all have gluten in them. My favorites!

Lynne Clan Thompson lists the following Lame Advertisement products as gluten free:

Lame Advertisement Intelligence: Cleansing gel, daily moisturizing cream, hand cream and skin conditioning oil. I have read on here that a lot of people love these products but for some reason I break out every time I try them, lol, just my luck! I think I'm going to try the derma e product line next. It is carried in several places here in SW Ohio and I've heard a lot of postive things about it. Checked their website yesterday and all products are gluten free except 2...tea tree oil and some anti itch thing. Hey by the way, have you made your video yet?! Every week I watch Extreme Makeover home edition and I"m waiting to see you on there!!!

      Hi Charlie, You sound like you have been having a rough time of it. Coeliac disease can cause a multitude of skin, mouth and throat problems. Mouth ulcers and enamel defects are well known but other oral conditions are also more common in people with coeliac disease: burning tongue, inflamed and swollen tongue, difficulty swallowing, redness and crusting...

      Hi Charlie, You sound like you have been having a rough time of it. Coeliac disease can cause a multitude of skin, mouth and throat problems. Mouth ulcers and enamel defects are well known but other oral conditions are also more common in people with coeliac disease: burning tongue, inflamed and swollen tongue, difficulty swallowing, redness and crusting in the mouth corners, and dry mouth to name but some. The link below is for paediatric dentistry but it applies to adults too.  Have you had follow up for you coeliac disease to check that your anti-tTG2 antibodies levels have come down? Are you certain that you not being exposed to significant amounts of gluten? Are you taking a PPI for your Barrett's oesophagus? Signs of changes to the tongue can be caused by nutritional deficiencies, particularly iron, B12 and B9 (folate) deficiency. I would make sure to take a good quality multivitamin every day and make sure to take it with vitamin C containing food - orange juice, broccoli, cabbage etc.  Sebaceous hyperplasia is common in older men and I can't find a link to coeliac disease.   Russ.   Oral Manifestations in Pediatric Patients with Coeliac Disease – A Review Article

I had a type of tingling/sometimes pain in my cheek about 2 years after my diagnosis.  I noticed it after standing in cold wind, affecting  me after the event - for example, the evening after standing outside, I would feel either tingling or stabbing pain in my cheek.   I found using a neck roll seemed to help, reducing caffeine, making sure I was well-hydrated, taking B12 and C vitamins and magnesium.  Then when the lockdowns came and I was using a facemask I realised that this pain was almost entirely eliminated by keeping the wind off my face.  I think looking back I was suffering from a type of nerve pain/damage.  At the time read that coeliacs can suffer from nerve damage caused by nutritional deficiencies and inflammation, and there was hope that as bodywide healing took place, following the adoption of a strict gluten free diet and addressing nutritional deficiencies, recovery was possible.   During this time, I used to spend a lot of time outdoors with my then young children, who would be playing in the park, and I'd be sheltering my face with an upturned coat collar, trying to stay our of the cold wind!  It was during this time a number of people with a condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia came up to me and introduced themselves, which looking back was nothing short of miraculous as I live in a pretty sparsely populated rural community and it is quite a rare condition.   I met a number of non-coeliacs who had suffered with this issue  and all bar one found relief in taking medication like amitriptyline which are type of tricyclic anti-depressant.   They were not depressed, here their doctors had prescribed the drugs as pain killers to address nerve pain, hence I mention here.  Nerve pain caused by shingles is often treated with this type of medication in the UK too, so it is definitely worth bearing in mind if standard pain killers like aspirin aren't working.
