Pamela's Baking Mix... Making Me Sick

I suspect it is the small amount of xanthan gum (something I usually avoid because it gives me cramps and lots of bloating), but I made some brownies with it yesterday and today I feel like someone stuck an air pump to my belly button and blew my stomach full of air. Ouch!

Is there anything else in there that I could have reacted to, do they have problems with cc or has anyone else had problems with it?

Thanks :)

I eat this stuff all the time, but continue to be sickened from somewhere. Now I am wondering the very same thing. If I remember correctly there were some people that posted they got sick from Pamela's.

I am hoping some more people reply to this.

hey, this is very interesting. I just made my first batch of Pamela's Amazing Sandwhich bread in my mixer, and I think I've been reacting to it. Not a full-fledged blow, but I've been having some pain, and a noticeable difference in BMs. I thought maybe I was reacting to the eggs in it, as they are the one new ingredient in the mix that I don't often eat. Also, I didn't make it entirely correctly, so I thought maybe it was undercooked. But if the mix was contaminated I wouldn't be shocked. Pamela's seems like a pretty allergen conscious company, but who knows.

Hi Elizabeth,

I can not use Pamela's mixes (which is too bad, because her brownies are really good) because of the tapioca starch. Unfortunately, I'm intolerant to tapioca, so there are many mixes and products that I can't use.

I hope you figure out what is bothering you :) It can get so hard sometimes!

I am wondering if anyone else reacts to Pamela's pancake mix. I hadn't been eating it and was sick two days in a row when I ate it again. I don't know for sure if this was it. My 3 year old has been eating it forever and isn't really growing. He doesn't have diarhea anymore, but I am just wondering if he is reacting to it, to some small degree. He hasn't had it for a few days and his BM's seem much better looking. Alot of times he seems to not be able to go. Kind of like an IBS type thing and he is gassy. It is so hard to figure these things out. I am convinced there are some foods out there that say they are gluten free and aren't. THere are some other things we eat that could be the culprit. For now I am going to see what happens if we don't eat it for a month.

I love Pamela's and don't seem to have any reactions.

I reacted to Pamela's bread mix too. However, it may be that I am intolerant to tapioca. I'm trying to figure out what is bothering me.

EV --MAYBE WE CAN FIGURE THIS OUT WITH YOU...

I LOVED PAMELA'S BUT GOT SICK EVERY SINGLE TIME.

NOW I'VE STOPPED USING ANTHING WITH TAPIOCA AND 'Z'GUM.

CAN YOU EAT THOSE TWO THINGS....?

IF YOU CAN EAT THEM IN PAMELA'S AND OTHER PRODUCTS.......

 MAYBE THAT' IT.?????

ANY THOUGHTS?

I reacted to it as well!

I thought perhaps it was something that I did...I thought it was maybe the cooking spray I used to spray the pan. Hmmm...

I have a problem with Pamela's too.

Was thinking it could be the Xgum, or yeast. But I do eat Food for Life Brown Rice Bread and I don't have any problems with that, and there is tapioca flour, and Xanthan Cellulose (<-- don't know if that is the same as gum) and there is yeast in it too.

So.. the ingred in Pamelas that are different from Food's for Life are:

Molasses, honey, cane sugar, hicory root, and active dry yeast (vs. fresh yeast in Foods for Life), Sorghum Flour, sweet rice flour (<-- what's that), rice bran, and eggs.

I eat eggs and don't have any problems with them either, unless I eat too many

Or else it's 'good old cross contamination' somewhere along the line. I too would like to find what the culprit is...

Could it be the dairy? Did you definitely determine that's not a problem any more? (That's why I can't have their mix...)

I have eliminated Pamela's after reacting for a few weeks. I suspect tapioca, xantham gum but know many long-timers on here recommended I get rid of the Pamela's stuff because they had trouble as well. ( I was only having a cookie a day!) I am currently on a modified paleo diet and doing much better. I intend to introduce only single ingredients ONE at a painstaking time if and when I add things back!

Good luck!

 PLEASE DON'T GET ME WRONG FOLKS...I LOVED HER PRODUCTS...THEY JUST DIDN'T LOVE ME BACK.

IT'S BEEN SO LONG...I DON'T HAVE THE INGRED..AND TOO TRIED TO LOOK UP

IS THE DAIRY....MILK, CASEIN LACTOSE IN THE MIX.

I KNOW IF I WAS COOKING I WOULD HAVE USED THE ALMOND BREEZE VAN MILK.

SO IF THERE IS DAIRY IN THE MIX-- THAT MIGHT BE IT FOR ME...SO LONG AGO I JUST FORET.

You know, I don't know any more  I thought I was doing ok with tapioca, but had pamela's pancakes yesterday (YUM!) and Chebe breadsticks last night and am not doing so well today. I'd stopped keeping my food log, but I should think about going back to it. In the meantime it's not enough for me to stop eating it, but I will start paying more attention to what's going on.

I have a package of Pamelas Wheat-free Bread mix right here, and there is NO diary in the ingredients, nor are they added for baking.

For me I think it may be the tapioca

Must depend on the exact mix. The ones I used to use (and love) had dairy. I totally believe that there are some that don't have any, of course. :)

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
