I got home from picking up the girls from music classes and dropping my mom off. Terry had gotten home by this point (he wasn't home yet when we left). Anyway, the kitchen was a disaster!!! Today is Pancake Tuesday, and he was making pancakes for his class, and there was pancake mix powder EVERYWHERE! All over the counter. the stove, the sink, the fridge, all the mixing dishes with gluteny, dried on pancake mix all over them lying all over the place, the griddle on the counter RIGHT NEXT TO MY GLUTEN FREE CONTAINERS!!!!

I could have screamed! DUH! WHEN WILL HE EVER LEARN THE SEVERITY OF THIS DISEASE??????

Okay, feel a bit better after that rant......

Back to the Dog House Terry! And Take the Altoids with You! <_<

CarlaB Enthusiast

Tell him he needs to make it up to you. ;) Maybe it's his turn to eat the Altoids.:P

Oh man...that would have been grounds for a whooping in this house! Yep- back to the dog house....

tarnalberry Community Regular

Wow. Just... wow. How can someone even do that? My husband doesn't even make gluten-filled pancakes any more because the dust was too annoying to deal with. That really sucks.

2Boys4Me Enthusiast

Good Grief! I don't suppose he cleaned it up. <_<

That is really insensitive - especially coming right after your Rolos accident.

Ooh, just the thought makes me shudder. Have you thought about banning wheat flour from your home? I had to do that, even with 4 kids, even when it was just me needing to eat gluten-free. I'll never regret that decision.

Like Liz, we don't keep wheat flour--or actually any dry gluten-containing baking mixes in the house. I don't want all the flour flying around, landing on everything <_<

Sorry your husband was thoughtless, hope it was just a one-time lapse :) I would have been beyond upset, too ;)

Felidae Enthusiast

I certainly hope that you don't have to clean that mess up. That's really horrible of him.

Yep, had to clean it up..... I went through 4 containers of Lysol Wipes wiping everything down.....

Hhhmmm, what makes this better?

Dinner out every weekend for a month?

Spa day with the girls...nails, facials, everything?

Luxury weekend for two somewhere away from the kids? Nah, that's like rewarding him.

He takes the kids for a weekend and you get the house to yourself?

Housekeeper for a year!!

In my dreams! Yah, right...... This is the guy who totally forgot our anniversary, then for Christmas, gave me a card saying it was good for a day at the spa, but that seems to have been forgotten, and for Valentine's Day, I actually got a card this year, usually he doesn't acknowledge it at all......

Hence him being in the doghouse now for months.......

Only if YOU forgot it!! Go to the spa and charge it to his credit card!!!

Oh wow! How frustrating can that be :o in the dog house for sure Terry!

I'm one of those that doesn't allow gluten flour or mixes in the house. Cleaning that mess up would have had me fuming for a month

Ursa Major Collaborator

Karen, you seriously need to ban all gluten flour and mixes from your house. I did a while ago. He might have to make gluten-free pancakes next time, or take his cooking elsewhere. As if you aren't sick enough already!

casnco Enthusiast

Sorry your DH is such a dog! I don't allow any gluten in my house with one exception. I let them have gluten containing cereal. But I told them if they dont rinse their own dish, clean the sink and put the dish in the dishwasher they will be eating cornmeal mush and nutty rice with me!

I am sorry you came home to this mess. As understanding as John is he still offers me pretzels.... sometimes I think they just don't think.

This is why I'm single

But seriously, I've had similar problems with roommates. I definitely don't think it's malicious, just temporary lack of sanity and consideration.

I'm not nearly as nice as all of you! :P I would have left the house, gone shopping or something and told him I would come home when the mess was clean. If cleaning up dried up pancake mess didn't teach him, the MasterCard bill would!!:lol::lol:

My hubby was out of town once for Mother's Day. I bought myself a Coach purse ... it never happened again! ;)

OOh heck - Terry has surpassed himself there in the thoughtlessness stakes there :(

Will he ever get out the doghouse now?

Dangerous stuff pancake mix (we don't even bother with the whole 'pancake day' thing anymore with one of the boys being dx with celiac disease now -- no non gluten-free flour allowed in the kitchen!!)

Anyhow..I like Carla's suggestion with a spell of silent treatment added!!

Only silent till the mess is cleaned up and you can go home ... then, it's all excitement about the stuff you bought!!!:lol:

Oh well, as long as Terry's next brilliant move isn't this:

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
