I wish you guys all lived closer, we could watch Idol together. I just made a fresh pan of GFP truffle brownies...they are still warm on the stove.

Susan, are you coming by train or plane? I'm sure I can whisk up some special treats as well.

It is nice that there are so many of us who follow Idol. BTW, Gina ROCKED tonight!!! Wow!!! And Melinda!!! Double WOW!!! I'm so glad that the girls are holding this show together because if it weren't for them I'd be so totally bored right now.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

Gina did rock!!!! She really kicked some butt singing Evanescence. I also thought Jordyn was pretty good. Antonella...well....still isnt happening.

Tritty Rookie

I didn't have a favorite girl until this point - I love Gina!

Hey, whatever way, it doesn't matter, just keep the chicken fingers hot for me! ;) I'm not even watching Idol right now...I'm just in it for the gluten-free snacks you all provide! :P

One of the fun things about this thread is that we all have such different tastes and opinions on who's best. It seems like most of us like Blake the best, but can't agree on the girls. I must be showing my age, because I can appreciate Gina's talent, but just don't like that style of music. I LOVED Melinda, as usual. The girls are SO much better than the boys!

Guhlia Rising Star

Oh totally, Melinda was insanely good. I just thought Gina was really edgy for the first time and that shows guts and it showed off her talent too. I think Melinda's probably the best singer in the competition, hands down, but I don't think she has the personality to win it. I love Blake, but my husband thinks he's going to get voted off early just like Daughtry did because he's just too good and doesn't need the show to succeed. I don't know. Blake's my call for winning it just because he's the only truly original one. He changes all of the songs' arrangements and he adds to them, plus he has a really nice, sandy, voice. If Blake can't take it, I hope Melinda or LaKisha can. Those poor girls need all the self-esteem they can muster up. Winning would do either of them some good.

I agree Guhlia!

I missed the guys so I'm looking forward to the show tonight to see the snippets.

None of my IRL friends are watching Idol so it's fun to come here to discuss it for me too!

You might have missed the guys show on Tuesday night, but you didn't miss much. The general agreement around here was that they were pretty boring. So don't worry too much about missing them. :) The girls were 100% better.

Last night was better but there were still a few boring performances, i so hope antolnella goes home tonight. My personal facites are jordan, lakisha, melinda and the one that rocked out, Another one i didnt like was haley,. simon was right when he said he didnt even know her name, i never paid attention before he said last night lol.

I just hope eveyone voted the right way, it seems they always vote off one that deserves to be there.

I agree, Gina and Melinda both rocked! I usually don't like watching the girls, they sing to many boring songs, but this year it's the guys who are boring. I do really like Blake and if gina stays edgy she'll be a favorite. I'm thinking Antonella and Haley should go home. And of Course Sanjaya. I'm not sure about the other guy, I'm sure it won't be Blake or the Chris'. It could be any of the others. I like Sundance, but his performances haven't quit been as good as he could be.

dlp252 Apprentice

I totally loved all the performances last night except for Antonella and Haley. If those two aren't voted off then something really IS hinky. The girls are definitely better overall than the guys are this year.

I actually had liked all of Haley's previous performances. Last night she really fell. I did like Jordyn though. The girls seem to be powerhouses. This is a real fun thread. I am glad to see it took off. Boy Antonella seems to have gotten a high horse too...when Ryan talks to her after she performs her responses always annoy me.

Antonella doesn't have anywhere near the talent of the other girls. She's always off key and has a weak voice...I was really surprised when she made it to the final 24 in the first place. My guess is it's strictly about her looks. She shouldn't make it through tonight...I don't think Haley deserves to continue on either.

Antonella definitely has to go, but I think votefortheworst.com will be able to keep her on for a few more weeks. They were responsible for keeping Kevin Colveis on and John (the red head). Both of those boys made it pretty far considering their talent level. I hope that somehow Antonella gets voted off, I can't stand her, but I think we'll probably have to suffer through a few more performances from her unfortunately.

I think this week it will be Haley and maybe Sabrina (hopefully Antonella) for the girls and Sanjaya and Jared for the boys. I would say Sundance will go, but he's votefortheworst.com's pick, so I think he'll probably stay around for a while.

UR Groovy Explorer

It'll be interesting to see how they handle the 'vote for the worst' thing (or if they handle it at all). It's obviously having a huge impact - Antonella? Please.

What a huge talent Melinda is ... Unbelievable.

BTW, did anybody see the last 5 seconds of the vote-off show last week? That was great - "Why did I decide to scat (sp?)? ... America don't care for jazz". We had to watch that 3 seconds like 5 times. Too funny!

jayhawkmom Enthusiast

I am seriously having a hard time watching this season. I just don't like *anyone.*

Ugh!

Yeah, that was very funny. My husband about fell of the couch when she sang that about why did she scat.

Guhlia Rising Star

If you haven't seen the show yet, don't read this...

Wow, so I was half right. I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad Antonella's gone. I really didn't think we'd be able to get rid of her so quickly, but I'm soooo glad we did. I'm sad to see Sundance go, but I think he may actually be able to make it on his own. He's a great singer, poor song choice sometimes, but a great singer and I really like his personality. I hope someone hooks him up with a deal. I'd buy his album. Sanjaya in the top 12??? What's that all about??? Ugh...

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I know I was mad when Sanjaya made it, but I do not give Paula any credit for her comments when both Haley and Sanjaya went up there. I know when she spoke to Sabrina she said you belonged up there, it was when Haley went. I think they should have kept that to themselves. John did tell me there would be some surprises. Those two were it.

ebrbetty Rising Star

Sanjaya shoud have gone home, but they always shock me and make me mad lol

hubby thinks hes still there because the young girls are voting for him?

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I actually think Sundance should have stayed over him....Sanjaya has a nice voice and all but you cannot hear him. He puts me to sleep.

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.

I had no idea there is a "Louisville" in Colorado!😉 I thought it was a typo because I always think of the Kentucky city--but good luck!

Navigating medication safety with Celiac disease can be incredibly stressful, especially when dealing with asthma and severe allergies on top of it. While I don't have personal experience with the HealthA2Z brand of cetirizine, your caution is absolutely warranted. The inactive ingredients in pills, known as excipients, are often where gluten can be hidden, and since the FDA does not require gluten-free labeling for prescription or over-the-counter drugs, the manufacturer's word is essential. The fact that you cannot get a clear answer from Allegiant Health is a significant red flag; a company that is confident its product is gluten-free will typically have a customer service protocol to answer that exact question. In situations like this, the safest course of action is to consider this product "guilty until proven innocent" and avoid it. A better alternative would be to ask your pharmacist or doctor to help you identify a major national brand of cetirizine (like Zyrtec) whose manufacturer has a verified, publicly stated gluten-free policy for that specific medication. It's not worth the risk to your health when reliable, verifiable options are almost certainly available to you. You can search this site for USA prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

What you're describing is indeed familiar to many in the Celiac community, especially in the early stages of healing. When the intestinal villi are damaged from Celiac disease, they struggle to properly digest and absorb fats, a condition known as bile acid malabsorption. This can cause exactly the kind of cramping and spasms you're seeing, as undigested fats can irritate the sensitive gut lining. It is highly plausible that her reactions to dairy and eggs are linked to their higher fat content rather than the proteins, especially since she tolerates lean chicken breast. The great news is that for many, this does improve with time. As her gut continues to heal on a strict gluten-free diet, her ability to produce the necessary enzymes and bile to break down fats should gradually return, allowing her to slowly tolerate a wider variety of foods. It's a slow process of healing, but your careful approach of focusing on low-fat, nutrient-dense foods like seeds and avocado is providing her system the best possible environment to recover. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: Thank you for sharing your story—it's a valuable insight for other parents navigating similar challenges.

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.
