I used Mrs. Leeper's "Organic Corn Vegetable Radiatore".

Thanks Liz. I'll have to check that out soon.

As for the weekend goals I had, I was only partially successful, but since I only started last weekend, I'm feeling a little momentum building & I think I'll be on a great program soon.

I did Triceps & Biceps - man, I had forgotten how wonderful it feels to work out.

I didn't do any real cardio, but I'll get to that today.

Next training goal: Shoulders & Core today with a cardio DVD I have - 20 minutes of Kick Punch today - baby steps.

I hope you all are doing well !

Hi all

I'm jumping on this band wagon.

So except for the half bag of MnMs I did well this weekend. Tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese and calamata olives for breakfast and lots of veggies and fruit for lunch/dinner.

Trying to eat only whole foods, minimally cooked (just because it's quicker and I'm less likely to snack while preparing them) and more fruits.

So far no exercise routine except for walking 1 1/2 miles uphill to work every day but I'm planning on joining the YMCA to lift weights a few times a week.

Jestgar - happy to have you join us!

Kathy - sounds like you're doing great getting going with your workouts - keep up the good work!

Little d - how can we help encourage you to be totally gluten-free? I know from experience that it's all or nothing. 90% gluten-free is the same as eating a regular diet. Would having a diagnosis, probably from Enterolab at this point, help with your motivation? We all know how hard it is to get into the swing of it, especially in the first 6 months. Maybe we can help with some suggestions for food on the run to help you out with your busy schedule?

I'm planning to be "good" today and tomorrow, and take a free day on the 4th of July. I won't totally overdo it, but I do want to enjoy our traditional barbecue with all the fixings and popcorn while watching the fireworks. I've found that taking a free day once a week or so helps keep me motivated and makes it easier to stick to my diet. Usually I take a free day on Saturdays. "I can't have these chips and salsa or a piece of this chocolate cake now, but on Saturday I can." That kind of thing helps me stay strong.

Hoping to see everyone posting and letting us know how you're doing!

Hi!

I am new to this gluten free thing, but I am trying. My sister and niece are both gluten intolerant. I have not been tested, but consider myself intolerant after dietary changes. I need to lose at least 45lbs, but 55lbs would be better. I had twins at the end of last year and I am struggling to take off all the weight I gained. I have 25lbs of pregnancy weight, plus the 20lbs I should have lost before I got pregnant.

Breakfast and dinner do not seem to be a big deal, but making lunch is a challenge. I want things that are fast, since I do not have much time. I have four children under the age of 5 - so time is a luxury that I do not have!

I will weigh in on Fridays too, although I tend to weigh myself everday (a little OCD!)

Donna, Welcome !

Jestgar, I really hope you do start at the Y. It's a great place to work out. Glad to have you here. I really believe that a little weight training goes a long way in increasing metabolism and motivation and more importantly, proper form really helps with posture. I don't know how old you are, but as we gals get older, that posture starts to slowly disappear. Walking a mile and a half uphill is great !

Edit: Just realized - I really don't know if you're a "gal" or not. Guy - gal - whatever.

...

I'm planning to be "good" today and tomorrow, and take a free day on the 4th of July.

...

Liz, good for you - taking a free day now and then really seems to work for you !

Kristen, welcome !

I did it ! I did my shoulders, abs, and my 18 minutes of Kick Punch - I just couldn't get the last 2 minutes in. I don't know why I cop out on those last few minutes. Maybe I should raise my goal to 25 minutes, and that way, when I cut out early, I've still done more than 20.

Anyway, I'm glad we started this up again. Having a plan to execute really does make me want to do it even more.

I'm really hoping everyone doesn't abandon the thread - I'm on a roll !

Have fun and safe 4ths, everyone. We'll be at the Del Mar Fair to watch the fireworks. Should be fun.

No workout goals today - feeling kind of crappy - headache, etc. - girl stuff

Welcome Kristen! Glad you've joined us. I know first hand how hard it can be to lose weight while taking care of little ones. I had 3 in 3 years and then we adopted one a bit later. Now, they're 15, 14, 12 and 10 and it's a bit easier. But we still need to find meals on the run and easy to fix stuff.

Lunch can be hard. Some of the quicker things that I've found are salads (cook meat ahead and put it in the freezer in single servings and then just take one out the night before or morning of); quesadillas made with rice or corn tortillas; chicken, cheese and lettuce, sandwiches made with light tapioca bread, grilled in a panini press or electric table top grill - turkey and cheese or turkey bacon and cheese are our favorites; deli meat wrapped in lettuce leaves. Have carrot sticks and fruit and you have a great lunch.

I did okay yesterday, but didn't have a chance to go workout. Heading over there in a little while.

B - 3 pieces chicken sausage

S - 1/4 C yogurt (see Kat, you're not the only one with no self-control when it comes to dairy)

L - Stir-fried chicken, peppers and onions and a piece of watermelon

S - more strawberries and cherries than I should have eaten

D - Turkey bacon and goat cheese panini sandwich on light tapioca bread (still full from all that fruit)

Jestgar Rising Star

Groan.....

Dim Sum lab lunch.... so full...

and yes I am a girl ;)

I loved the old weight loss support thread and was active on it, but it kind of died and lots of the people who were on there no longer post here. Would anyone else like to join me in a new thread where we can encourage each other, give advice (when asked for), support each other and have a way to be "accountable"?

I lost 12 pounds earlier this year, but have gained 3 back. I'm looking to lose 15 more by the time school starts in the fall. I need to eat relatively low carb - lots of lean chicken, turkey, fish, non-starchy vegetables, moderate amounts of fruit, nuts, avacados and 1-2 small servings of grain products a day. No sugar, chips, junk food or processed food. I'll be giving up chocolate until my birthday on Sept. 3rd. It helped last time - I gave up chocolate for Lent.

I hope some of you will join me! Jerseyangel, Kaycee, Fajitas, Electra? Anyone else?

LIZ, I DIDN'T LEAVE YOU. LAST WEEK WHEN I WENT FOR MY MAMMO I WAS TOLD I HAD TO HAVE A BIOPSY. SO TODAY WAS THE DAY(7/03), AND I AM REALLY UPSET. I WILL GET THE RESULTS BACK THURSDAY, AND I AM SCARED.

JUST GIVE ME A LITTLE TIME, AND I'LL BE BACK IF ALL IS WELL...JANET :(

Hi Liz,

I should have popped in sooner to thank you for the lovely invitation to your new thread.

I've actually lost ground since the old thread  I have not been feeling well for weeks due to a prolonged gluten reaction, and I've been eating a lot of starchy things just because they feel better on my stomach.

I'm working on that, as well as embarking on a low-salt (ugh!) diet for my blood pressure. Long story, but I'm off one of my 2 meds, and both my doctor and I are hoping to keep me off of it.

I've been reading along, and I'll try and post more :) Embarassing as that may be..... <_<

Jestgar--So good to have you back! And have I mentioned I *know* you're a girl!!!! Love the new pic B)

I would like to state, for the record, and in my defense, that Jestgar's picture was in fact not a girl, but this bazaar looking cat, and at the same time, I feel it's important to point out that I was not on any drugs at the time. I believe, therefore, that the change in avatars must have taken place between then and now.

Hi -

I think I need to join this too :). I guess I will start by posting what I ate today (starting tomorrow would be sooo much better LOL) but here goes:

B - Clif Nectar Bar and Jay Robb's egg white protein powder mixed with rice milk

L - Amy's Indian Vegetable Korma

Snack/Second Lunch  - Erewon corn flakes with rice milk and a banana

D - Broccoli slaw with a bit of tuna

More snacks  - corn chips with salsa and an Izzy soda

Even more snacks - frozen blueberries with honey

I did not workout today.

Okay, so starting tomorrrow....more veggies, less starch, less corn, less packaged food, more protein throughout the day and more excercise. I'm not sure how much weight I need to drop, but I most definitely have a few unwanted pounds (which is not surprising, seeing how much I eat). We'll see how it goes. :)

2plustwins Rookie

Yesterday's meals:

B: Protein shake

L: Meal replacement bar

S: Protein shake

D: Rice, beans and cheese

Total cals: 1150

No workout - just did not feel like it. I am hoping to exercise 4-5 times a week. I did workout Monday. I need to find the time for it today.

2plustwins Rookie

Ate pretty much the same thing as the day before:

B: Protein shake

L: Rice, beans, zucchini and cheese

S: Meal replacement bar

D: Protein shake

Total cals: 1150

20 minutes on treadmill, plus a few crunches and leg lifts.

UR Groovy Explorer

Hi Mango, good to have you here.

Hi everyone.

I blew it over the last couple days - too much food, too much chocolate & chips & salsa, no workouts.

I think I'm probably up a pound in the last week - good start, huh? Anyway, I've decided I need to begin to post my food stuff, so I'll get on that too.

Workout goal today: 40 minute walk / Chest & back today.

You're forgiven.

I'm not a mom and I don't talk about boyfriends/partners so there's really no way anyone could *what* I am.

Back to topic -

ate tons of food yesterday, but except for the popcorn, oh, and the half bag of M&Ms (which are all gone now) it was all vegetables and 2 bananas.

Brought some fruit for breakfast but I'm still not hungry.

lonewolf Collaborator

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great 4th of July!

Patti - I'm glad you've decided to join us!

Mango - it's nice to see you here too!

I did great on the 3rd, but can't remember exactly what I ate. Yesterday was definitely a "free" day. Pasta salad, potato salad, hot dog, black bean salsa and chips, fruit, Rice Divine, more chips... and the list could go on. This morning I have a stomach ache, for some reason, and don't feel like eating anything. I'm a bit afraid to leave the house for a while. I allowed regular hamburger and hot dog buns in the house for all my guests yesterday, but I don't think I got glutened - I think I just ate too much.

Anyway, hope you all get back on track too. I'm looking forward to working out this afternoon in an air-conditioned gym and then going for a walk tonight when it cools down.

BTW - my avatar is of me eating a hamburger in Disney World. My mouth was stuffed and I was trying to smile anyway.

Weigh in day, it's Friday.

This past Monday I weighed in at 81 kgs. Mainly because I had a problem with something I ate and I tend to bloat when I eat gluten. I'm presuming it was gluten!

Today I hopped on scales and they now say 79kg, so whatever it was that I ate it has been and gone and I am back to normal. I am loosing weight, nearly back down to what I was before I went gluten free, 78kg. I did not put on the weight immediately going gluten free, but about 7 months down the line, about the time my stomach really settled down the weight crept up to 83kg. I'd like to get down to at least 65-70kg.

I have been trying very hard, even though I am on holiday, not much has passed these lips. No more than 1,100 calories a day. I know it is quite low, but I need to kick start this diet.

I have got it into my head to try oats, and I have been eating them for breakfast (it is winter here) and have not noticed any ill effects with them, not even any bloating. But it is nice to know they might be okay. It is so hard to decide on this as there is nothing 100% about whether they contain gluten or not.

For exercise, I have been walking. It is amazing how many interesting places there are to walk here. Bush and waterfall walk 10 minutes walk away, the centre of town is an hours walk away. I work 10 minutes walk away and my husband this week works an hour away by foot. Usually he works an hour away by car! That would be a good days walk! So I have walked back from, town, an hours walk in the bush, and this morning I went to work with Jim, and walked back.

So good luck everyone, and wish you well in loosing weight.

Cathy

Weigh In Day

Weight: 158, of course

Waist: 33

That's all I got today.

2plustwins Rookie

Weigh in day!

I am down four pounds since going gluten free. I have just started to work out again, so hopefully I can lose more before the next weigh-in. I would like to lose at least 2lbs a week. I have such a long way to go to get to my goal.

Weigh in 7/6: -4

lonewolf Collaborator

Kat, you're funny. When I get down to 158 I'll post it and be really excited!

Kristen - congrats on the 4 pounds!

I'm down 1 pound in the past week. I think it would have been better if I hadn't had a "free" 4th of July, but oh well.

I guess it's up to everyone to decide if they want to post their actual weight or just say how much they've lost - whatever feels more comfortable.

UR Groovy Explorer

Liz, don't misunderstand - I'm really happy to be down to 158. When you reach 158, though, and you're soooooo close to being at the goal weight, you begin to realize how difficult it is to bust through that last few pounds. Also, once you've been 190 + like I was a couple years ago (thanks to your friend and mine - you know what I'm talking about), the cellulite is a nightmare - the skin, not what it used to be - it's been s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d, and it's taking a lot of effort to get it back where it's supposed to be. I may not have had kids and experienced that stretching, but when I was done with the Prednisone, my body looked like I had - and I didn't have a child to show for it.

You'll be down soon - you've been working out - it's just a matter of time.

Doterra is a life saver and yes I feel like im waiting because Im getting yes you are celiac, no your not celiac. Im so FRUSTRATED, exhausted and tired of explaining to medical why I feel this way.Im stressed because my body isn't feeling well.Yes I am and no it's not just a food allergy as downplayed with doctors Ive seen.I even went to the " celiac  specialist " Dr Fernandez-Becker who down played my ailments and stated im not and then yes I am I even had one her " care team" ask my why do you want that diagnosis. UNMMMMM. I don't want it, its been my life confirmed in 1994.Menopause intensified extra sensitivity and medical has down played my sibo, ibs, CELIAC, now im having skin and eye issues. I thought help was available but its been a complete medical disaster.

I have had my endoscopy this morning with biopsies. My consultant said that it looked like I did have coeliac disease from what he could see. I now have to wait 3 weeks for the biopsy results. Do I continue eating gluten till my follow appointment in three weeks.
    • cristiana
Hi @emzie and welcome to the forum. Perhaps could be residual inflammation and bloating that is causing sensitivity in that area.  I was diagnosed with coeliac disease in 2013 and I remember some years ago my sister telling me around that time that she had a lady in her church, also a coeliac, who  had real pain when she turned her torso in a certain direction whilst doing exercises, but otherwise was responding well to the gluten-free diet. As far as I know is still the picture of health. I often end up with pain in various parts of my gut if I eat too much rich food or certain types of fibre (for some reasons walnuts make my gut hurt, and rice cakes!) and and as a rule, the pain usually hangs around for a number of days, maybe up to a week.   When I bend over or turn, I can feel it.  I think this is actually due to my other diagnosis of IBS, for years I thought I had a rumbling appendix but I think it must have just been IBS.  Reading the experiences of other sufferers, it seems quite typical.  Sensitized gut, build up of gas - it stands to reason that the extra pressure of turning can increase the pain. When I am glutened I get a burning, gnawing pain in my stomach on and off for some days - it isn't constant, but it can take up a few hours of the day.  I believe this to be gastritis, but it seems to hurt irrespective of movement.   Anyway, you are doing the right thing to seek a professional opinion, though, so do let us know how you get on.   Meanwhile, might I suggest you drink peppermint tea, or try slices of fresh ginger in hot water? A lot of IBS sufferers say the former is very helpful in relieving cramps, etc, and the latter is very soothing on the stomach. Cristiana

Hi! One of the usual symptoms I have with a gluten flare up has deviated a bit and I thought I'd search for advice/opinions here. Also to see if anyone goes through similar stuff. Monday all of a sudden I got really bad pain in my stomach (centre, right under the chest, where the duodenum would be located). I ended up having to throw up for 2 hours, my body was trying to get rid of something from all sides and it was just horrible. Since then I havent been nauseous anymore at all, but the pain has stayed and it always worsens the moment i start moving. The more I move the more it hurts, and when i rest longer it seems to dissapear (no movement). I've had this before, but years ago I think around when I first got diagnosed with coeliac, where each time I moved, my stomach would hurt, to the point where I went to the ER because doctors got freaked out. That only lasted 1 night though, and Now it's already wednesday, so 3 days since then, but the pain persists and remains leveled. it doesn't get crazy intense, but it's still uncomfortable to the point I cant really go out because Im afraid itll turn into a giant flare up again. I couldn't think of where I could possibly have been glutened at this bad of a level and why it hasn't passed yet. I went to the GP, and as long as I have no fever and the pain isnt insane then its fine which I havent had yet. Tomorrow im also seeing a gastroenterologist specialized in IBS and coeliac for the first time finally in years, but I thought I'd ask on here anyway because it still hasnt dissapeared. It also hurts when someone presses on it. Maybe it's just really inflamed/irritated. I'm just frustrated because I'm missing out on my uni lectures and I do a sports bachelor, so I can't get behind on stuff & next to that i'm also going to go to the beach with my boyfriend's family this weekend: (

Hi. So sorry to hear about your shingles. There is a lidocaine cream that you can get at Walmart that will help numb the pain.  That's what I used for mine. It can't be put near your eyes or in your ears. I hope your doctor gave you valacyclovir which is an antiviral.  It does lessen the symptoms. If it is in your eyes,  see an ophthalmologist.  They have an antiviral eye drop that can be prescribed.  Shingles in the eye could cause blindness.  I was unsure whether you have celiac or not.  If you do,  follow the diet.  I believe that extra stress on your body does affect everything. Shingles can recur. If you start getting the warning signs of nerves tingling,  see the dr and start taking the valacyclovir to prevent a breakout. If I sound technical,  I am a retired pharmacist.
