Hi All!

I am new the gluten-free "lifestyle"...it certainly is one! I keep finding out things I thought were safe and possibly aren't such as...baking powder. Does any one know who makes a true blue gluten-free baking powder and where I might buy/order it? Thanks a million. Please reply soon. I miss my muffins ;-)

I've never seen a baking powder with gluten in it. What are the ingredients of your current one?

Welcome to the gluten free life :)

Hi and welcome :)

I use Rumford Premium Aluminum-Free Baking Powder. It is marked gluten-free right on the container.

I saw Calumet Baking Powder listed on a Gluten Free list we got from the nutritionist. It's made by Kraft (I think) or one of the companies that doesn't hide their gluten. It's "double acting" and my stuff has been rising like CRAZY since I started using it. It works GREAT. And it's gluten free.

Baking powder

Here's baking powder: 1 tablespoon cream of tartar, 1/2 tablespoon baking soda, 1/2 tablespoon arrowroot. That's it, it works just as well as the stuff you buy.

Or

You can substitute baking powder in place of baking soda (you'll need more baking powder and it may affect the taste), but you can't use baking soda when a recipe calls for baking powder. Baking soda by itself lacks the acidity to make a cake rise. However, you can make your own baking powder if you have baking soda and cream of tartar. Simply mix two parts cream of tartar with one part baking soda.

This was posted somewhere in this site and I copied it down.

Thanks, everyone!

Whew! I was using Calumet so I guess I am ok. My naturopath gave me a list of food to avoid b/c they may POSSIBLY have gluten and when I saw baking powder, my heart sank. Ok, that is great. Thanks Agian.

Just make sure you never used a gluten-y utensil in your baking powder! (I have a habit of stirring with whatever's in my hand, had to throw a lot out)

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
