Okay guys...so I don't think any of you have skin in need of as much concealer as mine LOL, but I discovered this morning that mixing intensive fair concealer with with my moisturizer does amazing things! It covered all my red marks and evened everything out so well! I still put mint and like three coats of foundation over it...but I probably didn't even need to. Yay! This will save me major time in the morning :D

Mixing it in with my moisturizer works the best for me too. Then I spot cover some red spots with the mint concealer, and do another light dusting of foundation. Then a bit of blush, eyeshadow, and mascara and I am good to go for the day. 5 minutes well spent.

I have fallen in love with the EM eyeliner (Smokey) and eyeliner brush. It gives a much more natural look than the pencil stuff. In the past when i have used an eyeliner pencil, it makes me look like I did in high school and wore all the black clothes and eyemakeup and listened Bauhaus and the Cure all day. My batcaver days are oficially behind me. ;)

In other news, I am getting a lot of attention now from several of the guys at work. Flattering stuff for an old (36 years) married lady. Aparently I have been looking like crap for years and nobody bothered to clue me in. Keep in mind it's an IT department, so lots of these guys don't have much contact with women other than their Mothers whom they live with.

It's January 9th!!!!

It's the last day of the current special!!! :D:D

They might have a new special tomorrow :D

Or they might torture us and wait another couple weeks before putting the next one up <_<

dlp252 Apprentice

Okay, so is ANYONE ELSE as excited as I AM about the big day tomorrow (the day many of us will be hitting "CHECKOUT")!!!

I figured out that with all the stuff in my cart at this point in time, there are only 5 shades of eye color and 5 shades of blush left that I HAVE to try! Of course, there are still several other products I want to try, but that's it for the minerals.

Awesome about the Smokey eyeliner success!

Would you just die if they only extend the current special?!?!?!? :o

Well I for one, and probably the only one  , am not ready to place a big order just yet. I am still trying different colors out and really taking my time with my choices (I'm slow like that  )

BUT it is so nice to know thay they do offer specials so frequently, if not one at all times, so I can sleep easy and know I can catch the next one around :D

Okay...I have a question, that I bet Donna can answer

It's about blush. I'm wondering about Chit Chat, and how it compares to DVR and Photo Album. These are very important things you know  So is it pinker, plumier, more orange? The reviewers over at make-up alley really seem to love that one, so I might just have to try it (which will completely mess up my cart, btw... aahh...

Darn! I have to wait until I get paid next week before I can buy anything  ! Well, it will give me more time to pick-out what I want. ;) Plus the feedback I get from you guys always helps :) !

So true, the feedback is always helpful. I love hearing what everyone likes/doesn't like (although there doesn't seem to have been any dislikes as of yet) and how it works for them.

Yes Donna, inquiring minds must know about Chit Chat!!!!!

I was thinking the "shimmer" part of it would turn me off, I am not sure I need to sparkly shimmery cheeks  ??

But then again, maybe I do if the color is right.

I have a few of the shimmery blushes. They are sparkley in the jar, but when I put them on my skin they have more of a brightening effect than a glittery one. I tend to like a hint of shimmer though. The darker matte blushes make my face look dirty or something <_<

I think I would. I haven't placed a real full sized order yet...all my stuff is small, mini or sample sizes. :) Look out when I'm ready for full sizes. :P

Well, it is a little more peachy IMHO, but not too much so. It's such a nice subtle shade that it just looks like a nice little glow. I'm wearing it today, and I truly this this one might be my favorite that I've tried so far.

I was thinking the "shimmer" part of it would turn me off, I am not sure I need to sparkly shimmery cheeks  ??

I don't notice the shimmer once it's on, and in fact even in the jar it doesn't look that shimmery to me.

Donna, YAY, full sizes!!! It's a happy day within this EM bunch when you have graduated to full size containers

So both Donna and Mango prefer the shimmer finish in the blushes, interesting. Someone else, and forgive me I forget who, preferred the matte.

I thought I would lean towards the matte, but I guess I am going to have to give both a try and find out now aren't I?!?!

Ok, a small gripe about the USPS tracking system, well I lied it's a big gripe....it totally BITES!

They have given me the same message for 3 days now, which is basically no information other than to confirm they have indeed received electronic info from the shipper that my package has been shipped but no other info as to where or when or how is available :blink:

dlp252 Apprentice

Julie,

USPS is almost always like that for me...I get the packages before they update the info!

I think I'll switch my sample blush to chit chat :D I was going to sample natural..but hmm...maybe I'll put natural in my mini kit instead. Such big decisions. lol

It does! Despite that, I think USPS ususally ships faster than DHL...

I think I'll switch my sample blush to chit chat :D I was going to sample natural..but hmm...maybe I'll put natural in my mini kit instead. Such big decisions. lol

This was my dilemma.

My first sample blush I picked on look alone, from the website. I wanted a deep rosey color and B&B "looked" to fit the bill.

Well if you remember me saying, it is orange. ORANGE. I am sure it looks beautiful on dfferent skin tones, but not mine.

Then I got Apple in my second sample kit, very pretty color, but there is just a tinge of peach in it I find.

So for my sample kit #3, I was looking closely in the bottom left corner at Chit Chat, All Smiles, Best Friends, and Sunday Brunch. I really want a pinky rose with no orange/peach.

I agonized over the decision  but finally went with the lighter out of all the above, Best Friends.

Now I am wondering if I should have gone with All Smiles, or Chit Chat.

The blushes are making me  .

Does anyone have All Smiles?

dlp252 Apprentice

Julie,

Chit Chat will probably not be pink enough for you, it is described as a pink/rosy color, but to me it looks a little peach.

All smiles is described as "Brings out a wonderful fresh pinky-peach burst of color for those spring and summer days."

Yes Susie you must come talk make-up with us!!

Another brand?? How scandalous!! :lol::lol:

Well ladies, my sample kit arrived :D

Yay for Pick Me Up Pink!

And Best Friends Blush is actually a really pretty color in the jar, it's a little more pinky/violet than rose, but nevertheless it's pretty.

I must experiment and get back to you on the results!

Yes Susie, come play with us...it's a drop in and drop out kind of thread, lol.

I can't compare it to DVR and Photo Album, but it is a peachy pink tone. The shimmer isn't really that obvious on your face, but it does look a bit shiny in the jar, lol!

I have it on today and like it. One thing for sure, I use a lot more makeup when I use Nick Nack because it is lighter than Chit Chat. I brushed too much on at first and had to rub some off.

Oh and someone mentioned Sunday Brunch - it's orange-ish for sure!

I was wondering where you disappeared to Joni.

Thanks for your blush reviews :D

I wonder what time exactly they post the special? Eastern? Central? Mountain? Pacific?

(even though it is only 5:23 am there, they should have that special posted...it is the 10th after all!)

Hi @Scatterbrain Thank you for your reply.   Some of these things could be weaknesses, also triggered by stress, which perhaps have come about as the result of long-term deficiencies which can take a long time to correct.   Some could be completely unrelated. If it is of help, I'll tell you some of the things that started in the first year or two, following my diagnosis - I pinned everything on coeliac disease, but it turns out I wasn't always right!  Dizziness, lightheaded - I was eventually diagnosed with cervical dizziness (worth googling, could be your issue too, also if you have neck pain?)  A few months after diagnosis I put my neck out slightly carrying my seven-year-old above my head, and never assigned any relevance to it as the pain at the time was severe but so short-lived that I'd forgotten the connection. Jaw pain - stress. Tinnitus - I think stress, but perhaps exacerbated by iron/vitamin deficiencies. Painful ribs and sacroiliac joints - no idea, bloating made the pain worse. It got really bad but then got better. Irregular heart rate - could be a coincidence but my sister (not a coeliac) and I both developed this temporarily after our second Astra Zeneca covid jabs.   Subsequent Pfizer jabs didn't affect us. Brain fog - a big thing for people with certain autoimmune issues but in my case I think possibly worse when my iron or B12 are low, but I have no proof of this. Insomnia - stress, menopause. So basically, it isn't always gluten.  It might be worth having your vitamins and mineral levels checked, and if you have deficiencies speak to your Dr about how better to address them?

@NanceK, I do have Hypersensitivity Type Four reaction to Sulfa drugs, a sulfa allergy.  Benfotiamine and other forms of Thiamine do not bother me at all.  There's sulfur in all kinds of Thiamine, yet our bodies must have it as an essential nutrient to make life sustaining enzymes.  The sulfur in thiamine is in a ring which does not trigger sulfa allergy like sulfites in a chain found in pharmaceuticals.  Doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition (nor chemistry in this case).  I studied Nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology.  I wanted to know what vitamins were doing inside the body.   Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Not feeling well after starting Benfotiamine is normal.  It's called the "thiamine paradox" and is equivalent to an engine backfiring if it's not been cranked up for a while.  Mine went away in about three days.  I took a B Complex, magnesium and added molybdenum for a few weeks. It's important to add a B Complex with all eight essential B vitamins. Supplementing just one B vitamin can cause lows in some of the others and result in feeling worse, too.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of all the B vitamins, not just thiamine.  You need all eight.  Thiamine forms including Benfotiamine interact with each of the other B vitamins in some way.  It's important to add a magnesium glycinate or chelate supplement as well.  Forms of Thiamine including Benfotiamine need magnesium to make those life sustaining enzymes.  (Don't use magnesium oxide.  It's not absorbed well.  It pulls water into the intestines and is used to relieve constipation.)   Molybdenum is a trace mineral that helps the body utilize forms of Thiamine.   Molybdenum supplements are available over the counter.  It's not unusual to be low in molybdenum if low in thiamine.   I do hope you will add the necessary supplements and try Benfotiamine again. Science-y Explanation of Thiamine Paradox: https://hormonesmatter.com/paradoxical-reactions-with-ttfd-the-glutathione-connection/#google_vignette

Your goal is not to be a good puppet, there is no gain in that. You might want to restart the ones that helped.  It sounds more like you are suffering from malnutrition.  Gluten free foods are not fortified with things like Thiamine (B1), vitamin D, Iodine, B1,2,3,5,6 and 12 as non-gluten free products are required to be. There is a Catch-22 here.  Malnutrition can cause SIBO, and SIBO can worsen malnutrition. Another possibility is side effects from any medication that are taking.  I was on Metformin 3 months before it turned me into a zombi.  I had crippling side effects from most of the BP meds tried on me, and Losartan has many of the side effects on me from my pre gluten free days. Because you have been gluten free, you can test and talk until you are blue in the face but all of your tests will be negative.  Without gluten, you will not create the antigen against gluten, no antigens to gluten, so no small intestine damage from the antigens.  You will need to do a gluten challange to test positive if you need an official diagnosis, and even then, no guaranty: 10 g of gluten per day for 6 weeks! Then a full panel of Celiac tests and biopsy. At a minimum consider vitamin D, Liquid Iodine (unless you have dermatitis herpetiformis and iodine exasperates the rash), and Liquid Geritol. Push for vitamin D testing and a consult with a nutritionist experienced with Celiack Disease.  Most blood tests don't indicate nutritional deficiencies.  Your thyroid tests can be perfect, yet not indicate iodine deficiency for example.  Thiamine   test fine, but not pick up on beriberi.  Vegans are often B12 deficient because meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy are the primary souces of B12. Here is what I take daily.  10,000 IU vitamin D3 750 mg g a b a [   ] 200 mg CoQ10 [   ] 100 mg DHEA [   ] 250 mg thiamine B1 [   ] 100 mg of B2 [   ] 500 mg B5 pantothenic acid [   ] 100 mg B6 [   ] 1000 micrograms B12 n [   ] 500 mg vitamin c [   ] 500 mg taurine [   ] 200 mg selenium

Hi…Just a note that if you have an allergy to sulfa it’s best not to take Benfotiamine. I bought a bottle and tried one without looking into it first and didn’t feel well.  I checked with my pharmacist and he said not to take it with a known sulfa allergy. I was really bummed because I thought it would help my energy level, but I was thankful I was given this info before taking more of it.

Hello @Scatterbrain, Are you getting enough vitamins and minerals.  Gluten free food is not fortified so you may be starting to run low on B vitamins and vitamin D.   By the way you should get your mom checked for celiac disease.  You got it from your mom or dad.  Some studies show that following a gluten-free diet can stabilize or improve symptoms of dementia.  I know that for the 63 years I was eating gluten I got dumber and dumber until I started GFD and vitamin replenishment and it began to reverse.  Thiamine can get used up in a week or two.  Symptoms can come and go with daily diet.  Symptoms of beriberi due to Thiamine deficiency.   Difficulty walking. Loss of feeling (sensation) in hands and feet. Loss of muscle function or paralysis of the lower legs. Mental confusion. Pain. Speech difficulties. Strange eye movements (nystagmus) Tingling. Any change in medications? Last March I had corotid artery surgery (90 % blockage), and I started taking Losartan for blood pressure, added to the Clonidine I was taking already.  I was not recovering well and many of my pre gluten free symptoms were back  I was getting worse.  At first I thought it was caused a reaction to the anesthesia from the surgery, but that should have improved after two weeks.  Doctor thought I was just being a wimp. After three months I talked to my doctor about a break from the Losartan to see if it was causing it. It had not made any difference in my bp.  Except for clonindine, all of the previous bp meds tried had not worked to lower bp and had crippling side effects. One, I could not stand up straight; one wobbly knees, another spayed feet.  Inguinal hernia from the Lisinopril cough.  Had I contiued on those, I was destined for a wheelchair or walker. She said the symptoms were not from Losartan so I continued taking it.  Two weeks later I did not have the strength in hips and thighs to get up from sitting on the floor (Help, I can't get up😨).  I stopped AMA (not recommended).  Without the Losartan, a) bp did not change, after the 72 hour withdrawal from Losartanon, on clonidine only and b) symptoms started going away.  Improvement started in 72 hours.  After six weeks they were gone and I am getting better.
