We are getting snow and ice tonight into tomorrow. I think more ice than snow.

Glutenfreefamily Enthusiast

We are under a winter warning in Michigan. We are suppose to get 8 to 12 inches tonight with some possible freezing rain. Unfortunately my hubby will be driving in it tonight after he gets out of work.

Rosebud710 Apprentice

Here in northern Illinois we're supposed to get 3-6 inches :D ! I love it! Except that we were going to go to a party at a friend's house tonight but the roads are too bad.

I WANT snow!! Instead we're getting a 34 degree rain. Blech.

lmvrbaby Newbie

I am in western NY and we are starting to get snow and over night about 3 to 6 inches, tomorrow during the day another 6 to 12 inches and possibly over night tomorrow night another 3 to 6. We are getting a Nor"easter. Lucky us. Last time this happened and we were ready for it we got nothiing. Not so ready so probably will get dumped upon. I like snow on Christmas eve, and Christmas morning. Then it can all gl away. :D

We are under a severe winter storm warning here. The snow has been falling lightly since early afternoon, but is expected to become intense within the next two hours. As much as 16 inches could fall within the next 24 hours, and this may break the Toronto record set in 1944. High winds up to 50 mph may accompany the snow.

Okay, I like a white Christmas, but this is over the top.

...for the 2nd time in a week. And then once the trees and powerlines are beautifully ice-covered, we're supposed to be getting high winds. Got candles?

All things considered... Gimme Snow!

I forgot about the winds coming.... :( I hate that...iced power lines and wind.....something tells me it may be a very chilly Sunday!

Sounds like it. Glad we got our errands run yesterday and today. Also very glad hubby has off tomorrow (he works for one of the utility companies). I cringe everytime we get these storms, mostly for his sake. Can't imagine being up a 28' ladder in this weather. Oog!

loco-ladi Contributor

we just gone done that storm yesterday sometime, I was in SD and missed most of it, but came home to a few inches.

So it is an icy wonderland here. Roads aren't too slick. Ice all on the tress and power lines. A tree has lost some limbs and they came falling onto my husbands car. We can't move the tree right now it is frozen to the car. The winds are soon to pick up. I dread that.

So the winds have started and we are the last part of the township still with electricity....not sure that will last long. The iced trees have been slamming the house and since we are an end unit.....it is very loud for us.

Now here is a question. We have a gas stove with an electric ignitor. So if the power goes off, how would you manually light the stove...I know it sounds stupid but this is my first gas stove....

blueeyedmanda,

You can use your gas stove withhout electricity. Use a kitchen or fireplace match. Do not use the matches that come in the little books. Light the match, put it by the burner and turn on the gas.

I hope the weather improves.

Phyllis is correct. Like she says, light the match and THEN turn on the gas.

What about the matches that are wooden sticks, you buy them at the grocery store?

My box of wooden matches says "Large Kitchen Matches" The brand I have is Diamond. They are are wooden sticks about two inches long.

Thanks Phyllis

I appreciate all your help :)

Any wood match is suitable to the cause. The paper ones in the little packages sold for lighting cigarettes just don't stay lit long enough. Light the match and hold it next to the burner. Turn on the gas while the match is still burning--Voilia!

Do NOT turn on the gas first.

I hope that you don't actually need to use this advice. We had a brief power outage this morning around 6 am, but it only lasted a couple of minutes.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I hope it doesn't get to that either.

Everyone around our other parts of the township lost power....and we are hearing on the news that they will not get it until Weds.

We live in a large city area so it is suprising it would take so long.

jerseyangel Proficient

Right now, we're having wind gusts of about 55MPH.

Earlier today, it looked like a frozen winter wonderland--but dangerous.....there were power outages, and trees snapped all over the place. It was a mixture of rain and freezing rain all day with sporatic downpours. Very nasty.

Hope it calms down soon.

Stay warm and safe everyone :)

Very windy here!

I grew up in rural Maine, the longest I was ever without power was about 2 weeks in January, however it wasn't to big of a deal, I used the snow outside as my "fridge" my old cookstove for cooking and melting snow to flush the toilet, I also had the cookstove for heat... the only major change we did was move all the matress's closer to the kitchen for heat.

I grew up knowing my power could be out and for a while therefore I always have a "backup plan", I keep gas in my grill for cooking and a wood stove is my first purchase when moving into a new home and its one I can cook on if needed I also have been thinking about this time getting a generator to keep the fridge and freezers going as now I live in Nebraska and dont get the snow like in Maine

Today we still have power, many coworkers do not. The winds have finally calmed down....the ice is all over the place, it has fallen over the roads and houses when it fell from trees. Very dangerous.

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

I’m so glad they listened to your concerns!  I hope you get some answers from the MRI.

Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
