So Michael has been completely gluten-free for 10-12 days. He was doing beautifully. BM's completely normal with no signs of undigested food AT ALL! He was also only voiding 1-2 times per day instead of 4-6. His appetite has skyrocketed, no more mood swings or temper tantrums and the rash on his cheek has dissapeared. (don't know if that is gluten related but it did)

On Saturday we decided to test him one more time on a smaller scale for documentation purposes for appt next Friday to show the doctor after the neg biopsy. We went to McDonalds. I know this is a very passionate subject here but I am not trying to start the fry debate, some have problems some don't. Michael ate the fries, within 15 minutes he was in tears that his belly hurt, started passing gas, the temper tantrums were extreme, he has been crying and clingy since then and yesterday his BM's were green loose and had undigested food in them again. He was a tad bit better today. Well needless to say he will not be eating gluten ever again under my watch or his preschool teachers'! Thank goodness his teachers are so with me on this. They even did research before I brought the paperwork in for them to read!

Anyway, we have our appt March 7th after the negative biopsy for a check up and discussion. I will go in there with my "handy dandy notebook...right" ;) and show it to the doctor. It is proof positive that gluten is our culprit. She doesn't have to agree, I know it to be true! When he gets to school age if I need someone to back my up in the medical field, I will fight with her then, and if she won't help out... my oldest friend became a doctor! I will post after out appointment! Thanks again for reading about my little man, it is nice to know that there are people out there who not only understand but care about little people they have never met! Take care and be well!

Best of luck with the doctor--but I'm glad to hear you are going to stick to your guns no matter what she says. I hope your little guy feels better soon :) By catching this early, you will be saving him a lifetime of problems.

Yay! Sounds like you have your answer...and I too am glad you will stick to your guns even if the doc doesn't quite agree. I haven't had a doctor yet get on board with me putting the other kids on the diet w/out a positive biopsy, but they are much happier w/out gluten. I think we moms have a difficult enough job as it is...we don't need gluten induced temper tantrums to make things more challenging, lol. Congrats again, I hope your little man continues to improve!

      Hi @KathyR37 and a very warm welcome here.  I am so very sorry that you are going through all of this. I just wanted to check, have you ever been tested for any other gastrointestinal conditions? Cristiana

      @KathyR37, I would suspect that in addition to gluten intolerance, you have other food intolerances/sensitivities. This is very common in the celiac community. The most common offenders are oats, dairy, soy, corn and eggs with dairy and oats being the big two. Have you considered this? Have you tried keeping a food diary to detect patterns?

      thank you for your advice.   I have always taken them and I use Stonehedge because they are in a glass bottle, but don't have to be refrigerated.  I also like they are 3rd party tested and state gluten free. But you never know if something better has come alone over the years.

      Thank you for your response. I have already learned about the info you sent but i appreciate your effort. I am the only one in my family cursed by this disease. I have to cook for them too. I make sure that my utensils are free of gluten and clean after using them for other food. I use non-porous pots and pans and  gloves when cooking for them. One huge problem I have is a gag reflex out of this world and if something doesn't taste good it is not going down. Most commercially made breads and such taste like old cardboard.Pastas are about the same. I did find one flour that I like and use it regularly, but it is so expensive! All gluten free food is way more expensive. I only eat twice a day because I cannot afford to buy all that. We live on a very low income so my food purchases are quite limited.

It's crucial to know that the diarrhea is a sign of ongoing damage to your small intestine from gluten, and simply managing the symptom with Imodium doesn't stop that internal harm or the risk of other complications. The fact that you are still getting sick within an hour of eating, even while trying to be gluten-free, is a huge red flag that something isn't right. This could be due to cross-contamination in your kitchen (e.g., using a shared toaster, colander, or condiment jars), hidden gluten in foods, or the possibility of another concurrent condition like refractory celiac disease. Don't give up!  This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
