I keep checkin and cheering everyone on the side lines. It's really a BIG deal what you guys are doing. It will be two years in August for me and I don't ever think about it, but I understand how difficult it can be.

Keep up the good work. I'm pulling for all of you. Oh, and if everyone does well, ya'll get to go to Ken's for dinner and a visit. ;)

Quit 136 days

saved $663.00

saved 15 days and 16 hrs of your life

maybe b/c I signed up after i quit but added the correct dates in 08

didn't say how many cigs i didn't smoke???

I think there is an option to input how many cigs you smoked per day on average.

How does the well butrin make you feel? I couldnt take it, I saw red the entire time. I had soooo much rage when I took that, it wasnt worth it to me.

And like Mushroom said - Here are the good vibes!!! You can do it =))))))

B)

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

Your Quit Date is: 12/23/2008

Hang on, Judy. POSITIVE VIBES coming your way. You and I and everybody else here are non-smokers.

Keep it up. I quit about 8 years ago when I was hospitalized as they diagnosed my celiac disease. I didn't have the energy to go downstairs in the hospital (I couldn't even walk the corridor) and smoke and didn't feel like it for about 3 weeks. Bad way to quit, but I'm so glad I did.

Thanks Peter and Richard.

these posts of encouragement really are helping me.

I feel like with the week i've had i can also say I'm a non smoker.

Sure has taken long enough.

When everyone shows up in Hawaii I can guarantee a great gluten free meal as well as a selection of tropical fruit that I'd bet you never heard of!.

Passed a medium test! Yesterday, my 2 DD, me, and my 25 year oild grandaughter went out to lunch. Both DD quit, but Susan (GD) still smokes. She (after asking) smoked one sitting next to me in the car, and one when we got back to my house sitting around talking. AND I DIDN'T SMOKE! Felt pretty good about that.

We also found a new gluten-free restaurant - the third this week. My choices are ever expanding. That's not only good for me, but it's nice that the people I go with have better choices. This particular place was one of my faves before gluten-free.

I'm so glad to hear how well wer'e all doing - even when it gets hard. I'm diving for some gum as I type this! Tonight will be a big test. Wer'e having a BBQ with beer and wine and lots of smokers will be there. I'm really worried about it. Am I strong enough? Wish me luck! And hang in there.

Susan

ps. What time is that dinner in Hawaii?

ranger Enthusiast
How is everyone doing today? :D

haha I notice the smokers now too, out in public, in their cars and I just think wow I used to be one of them. I went to Home Depot the other day and this guy was smoking right next to all the propane were it says caution flamable, I am thinking you really shouldnt be there.

I promised myself I wont be a rude non smoker, I refuse to do that. I wish people would be more considerate though. If I was out in public I would go to an area where no one was around to smoke so it didnt bother anyone. If a kid walked by I would cuff my cig because I didnt think it was right for them to see it. My dh doesnt smoke but he used to go outside with me when I did and all I could do was try to wave the smoke from him even though it was no where near him lol.

SUSAN we are so very proud of you! Not smoking is one of the hardest things you will probably ever accomplish. The longer you go the more strength you will have, you will be so proud. hehehe I wasnt even quit for a day and I was dancing around

At first I wanted to breath it and remember what it was like and then I wanted to get away from it -- really does stink --

lol Ken, I find myself doing the same thing. It almost seems like it is going to be refreshing but it isnt.

Just remember - I only feel this way because I smoked not because I quit.

Life by the inch is a cinch - Life by the miles a trial!

The last gluten free dinner in HAwaii started about 1pm and lasted until -- I cant remember

Thats great you can sit next to smokers. I'm not at the point yet and have to move far away --especially if I was drinking..

1/2 the time I get sick from the smell and 1/2 the time I want to bum one!

Good job for not smoking with everyone =) I will be put to the test next month when family comes out to visit. They smoke and they smoke a lot, so I am just going to have to stay inside lol.

Question for you all. Has anyone had any weird dreams since you stopped smoking? I am no longer on the patch and I a wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I posted under sleep but thought I would ask here too since the only thing I changed was not smoking anymore.

Hi, Jennifer,

I quit smoking, cold-turkey, on October 8, 2007. The dreams I was having have finally stopped. But while I was having them, boy were they strange.

I've heard many people talk about smoking dreams. I've even heard that people have dreams when they give up other addictive substances, too. Drugs and such. But yes, the dreams are a fairly common occurrence, and they will pass.

The ones that were really disturbing to me were the dreams that I was smoking. I would be so upset with myself, thinking I had screwed up and smoked after all that time clean, and then I'd wake up. It would take a few seconds to realize that I had been dreaming. Disorienting, to say the least.

Good luck!

Janie

Jen

good luck with the upcoming visitors. You'll be ready in a month i'm sure

I haven't had dreams except when i was on a unrelated drug to smoking.......so can't relate here

I did have a neighbor come to visit and asked her to blow some smoke my way.

I did smell so good BUT..................AS she continued to smoke it was really making me queezy and for that i'm am so grateful. I was worried as i enjoyed the first puff blown my way

Gosh with so much to do to get ready for this move, if i just keep pushing forward and don't stop to rest  I'll keep my mind busy and hope not to fall over in a heap :o seriously, i really need to pace myself i know but if i keep busy and out of the garden........my main trigger I've been doing OK with the urges.

I'm so glad people are posting as it is REALLY HELPING ME

Oh yes, those were the absolute worst! You would wake in the morning and ask, "Am I a smoker or a non-smoker?" :o :o Oh, the horror. You would think, oh no, I can't have blown it like that

lol Judy when dh and I went to San Fran we went into a cigar shop and boy did I feel the change upon walking in there. The owner was sitting at his register smoking, I walked in then right back out. Told myself to go back in because I have to learn to deal with it.

Like Susan said I treat smoking like wheat, it is disease lol.

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

Question.....did anyone who tried Wellbutrin XL get headaches?

Jen, It's a great way to look at the disease connect

YEP, I remember you said it made you mean. prednisone does that to me.

I was having depression issues which just isn't like me

this helps with SAD, smoking, and to take anxiety away......and since i was gong to stop smoking just used it.

it seemed to work but that headache last nite was the worst

skipped a dose today and will see if i can do every other day for anxiety.

Dr's don't seem to know what to do with me as i can't tolerate meds well.

I'm doing ok thanks for asking Jen.

Was looking for houses in Temecula

the one we really like sold

seems there are not as many ranches as there were a month ago.

what will be will be.

Judy

PS........ had to ask...........are there alot of smokers in Temecula?

While i was in CA in Jan I only saw 2 people smoking on the street........in 12 days.

Thank you both very much. I’m pretty familiar with the various tests, and my older two girls with official dxs have even participated in research on other tests as well. I just felt overwhelmed and shocked that these recent results (which I found pretty dang conclusive after having scott clean labs just six months ago) would still be considered inconclusive. Doc said we could biopsy in another six weeks because my daughter was actually way more upset than I anticipated about the idea of eating it for years before doing another biopsy. It doesn’t hurt her, but she’s afraid of how it may be hurting her in ways she can’t feel. She’s currently eating mini wheats for breakfast, a sandwich with lunch, and a side of pasta along with every dinner, so I’m hoping we’re meeting that 10g benchmark mentioned in that second article!

Have you tried a genetic test to look for Celiac genes?  No gluten challenge required.
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @ElisaAllergiesgluten, Have you tried going on a low histamine Paleo diet like the Autoimmune Protocol diet?  A low histamine AIP diet would help your body rid itself of the extra histamine it's making in response to allergies.  Are you Celiac as well?   Since we need more thiamine when we're stressed, adding Benfotiamine, a form of Thiamine Vitamin B 1, can help the body calm down it's release of histamine.  Benfotiamine improves Sailors' asthma.

So, I've been using a gluten free labeled toothpaste since being diagnosed with celiac. No big deal, the toothpaste seems to work. Question is, I just realized it contains hydrated silica.  Now, I've heard that silicon dioxide can cause issues in some people with celiac (was that ever confirmed though?), so to be safe, I cut it out of my diet entirely. But, as I understand it, hydrated silica is related to silicon dioxide. Is that something to worry about, or is the hydrated form not known to cause issues like the silicon dioxide form?  I've never seen it in food, but nearly every toothpaste I look at contains hydrated silica?  Issue or not?  Any scientific research (Not opinion pieces, not health bloggers, you get my gist), but actual science, that says it's an issue? I have a hard time believing 99% of what I read on random internet searches.    Thanks so much, Renee.
