no one friggin believes me! and when no one believes me, it confirms that im an insane hypochondriac!

i was talking to my friend about how i havn't been moody since the week of being off gluten, but i feel like i have the flu he said it's just "your brain isn't getting the nutrients and is slowed down". but the biggest laugh came when i told him my own "conspiriacy theory" on asparmate. i told him how i've been addicted to sugar free chewing gum and how my symptoms match that 92 symptom list of craziness people who have been volunteered to try it suffered. he was like basically you cant ingest enough to cause mentall problems.

jeez my friends suck lol.

you guys support me right? at least something as arbitrary and 90's as asparmate?

No....you are not crazy mr. moore.

Many, many people have symptoms which they link to aspartame. I also had alot of neurological symptoms which improved significantly when I stopped chewing gum that contained aspartame.

Look up "excitotoxin".......aspartame and MSG are the worst offenders....and they are *everywhere* when it comes to processed foods. You are smart to be concerned. Trust your body.....if its telling you that something isnt right with what you're putting into it....chances are you will feel much better without it.

You're right. There is a conspiracy involving aspartame, and the FDA is in on it.

However, some recent developments appear to bring promise. Coca-Cola is planing to use Stevia, and PepsiCo also has plans, but is awaiting word from the FDA, who is supposed to review Stevia for GRAS status. I believe the only reason why these companies are putting pressure on the FDA is money. Every day, they lose sales due to increasing awareness about the dangers of artificial sweeteners. They want to gain more consumer appeal, and make more profits. Something they can no longer do with artificial sweeteners.

When you look at the revolving door between the government and the pharmaceutical and other industries, things become clearer.

ok here's a question on msg: if soup says less than 2% of the following: then lists msg or yeast extract, one f the the glutamates, is that litle percentage enough to cause a reaction? is msg in ketchup and other things that says "natural flavors"?

Yep...what RiceGuy said. If we are not sick, we won't go to the doc, we won't get misdiagnosed, we won't take their pharmaceuticals, we won't get worse, we won't pay them, and they won't get our money.

The whole conspiracy thing is more huge then most people know. I started learning about it all by researching one thing "ASPARTAME"!

It all points to the "One World Order" that is taking place. More could be said but don't believe those who sound like they are for us, like the drug companies and "eat more dairy or soy" commercials, etc.

Ever hear all those caution statements on the commercials if you take "their drug"? Get off whatever you can and see a doc that really wants to help you.

Those that don't get it really don't get it! They may not trust what you tell them...they can't believe b/c "we" have been brainwashed to believe what we are taught. You have to relearn like you are doing with the aspartame. You are not crazy, but those that make it and allow it in our food, are and have $$$$$$$ on their brain and in their heart. They don't care but WE on this forum DO!

Stay away from anything artificial and food colorings/dyes.

No Splenda or nutrasweet either. I read that diet cola and pepperoni are a deadly combination. If you have to have sodas get non diet and avoid the colas if possible.

Would you be good enough to share the source of this, please. I would be interested in reading it for myself.

FWIW, NutraSweet is aspartame. It is the original patented brand name.

I believe I saw it on a natural health doctor show on T.V.

I won't say the name b/c I am not positive which one. They said something in the diet pop reacts with the pepperoni and makes consuming them many, many times worse than if consuming them at different times.

People with seizure disorders are not supposed to use aspertame at all for any reason. It can cause seizures. My dd dated a guy who had seizure disorder. His dr. told him absoutely no aspertame. It's really bad stuff.

Hmmm. I guess I should be dead. I love pepperoni, but now make sure I only eat gluten-free pepperoni. Since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 22-1/2 years ago, I have been drinking Diet Coke, which was then sweetened only with NutraSweet brand aspartame, and now for many years has used two sweeteners, one of which continues to be aspartame. The other is acesulfame-potassium.

During that time, celiac disease darn near killed me, but since going gluten-free 8-1/2 years ago, I feel pretty good, and have not developed any new health issues. If aspartame is supposed to kill me, it doesn't seem to be doing a very good job. Just my own personal experience.

neesee Apprentice

It's good that it doesn't bother you Peter. :) My dh drinks a fair amount of it too. He has type 2 diabetes. It seems to help fill him up when he has no more calories to spare. It is invalueable to a diabetic. Unfortunately, it gives me cramping and a little diarrhea. So does Splenda.

Believe me when I say aspartame F's me up something awful! OMG it screws up my sleep so bad it's not even funny. It's definitely one of my "brain poisons" so don't you even think twice about avoiding it! If your "friend" doesn't understand, then that's his/her problem. Not yours.

Juliebove Rising Star

I drink a lot of soda with Aspartame. I don't think it is causing me any problems.

mr. moore Explorer

thanks guys but back to the whole 2% thing...is that enough to cause a reaction? is there any soup tha doesn't use glutamate?

Fiddle-Faddle Community Regular

When I was a child (late 1970's), the dad of my best friend was a chemist working for Searle, and he was one of the original chemists who was working on aspartame.

He wouldn't let his family touch it. My friend told me that he thought it was carcinogenic and should never have been approved.

mommida Enthusiast

I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. I tried it and it gives me a severe headache.

Interesting enough, the only other person in the room that avoided it as seriously as I was - her husband was a chemist.

rinne Apprentice

Everyone is different, 2% could be nothing to some and a lot for another, you have to study your own body's reactions and decide for yourself.

Personally, I avoid all additives, I cook my food from scratch. I would look for organic soups.

Take this as a matrix moment, you are not crazy, drug companies have no interest in our health only their profit. I'm glad you followed up on the aspartame research. Good for you. :)

angieInCA Apprentice

24 years ago when I first became pregnant with my Son my OBGYN told me to cut out all Aspartame. When I asked him why he said he felt it was legal poison and there was no data on how it affected the nervous system of a developing fetus. I never touched the stuff again and never allowed my children to have any.

Now if I happen to accidently ingest some I develope a migrane within the hour.

I avoid all artifical sweetners and that includes high frutose corn syrup. If I want a soda I make sure it is made with pure cane sugar.

Make your own soup. It's easy!

Aspartame is one of those things that bothers some people and doesn't seem to affect others. I used to drink a lot of sugar free Dr. Pepper in college. All of the sudden I started getting weird headaches and would have episodes of "zoning out" that were probably mini seizures. I finally figured out that it all started when they changed the sweetener from saccharin to Nutrasweet. I can't have it and won't let my kids have it in our house, but they come across it other places and I don't make a big issue of it.

For those of us who react to it, you can't convince us that it's safe, and I'm sure that for those of you who have no problems with it, no one can convince you that it's harmful. Kind of like gluten.

I am doing a gluten challenge right now and I bought vital wheat gluten so I can know exactly how much gluten I am getting. One tablespoon is 7g so 1½ tablespoons of Vital Wheat Gluten per day will get you to 10g You could add it to bean burgers as a binder or add to hot chocolate or apple sauce and stir.

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.
