I wonder what the prices for these mixes will be like? I'm hoping some day to not only see gluten-free things become mainstream, but for them not to cost so much more than "normal" things. That's what keeps me from buying them now.

And what will the flavors be...and will they make gluten-free frosting...and what other products will they be coming out with...and what other companies will copy...and will they put all their gluten-free items together in the store...??? Life is getting easier for celiacs ;) Think of how happy kids will be and moms too of course! And birthday cakes!!!

THIS is the part that is exciting to me! Mainstream attention to gluten-free! I talked with managers at both my local grocery stores. One of them really had NO IDEA that there is this huge population of people that avoids gluten.

Yesterday I went into Ralphs and they had five (yeah, that's all I found in the whole store) gluten-free tags up for easy identification. I stalked the manager so I could thank him. His response was, "I'm glad that corporate listened to the idea".

Oh....and the girl scout cookie people told me (email) that gluten free is on their experimentation list...but only when they can figure out how to do it *right*!

anyway, you need to add butter, eggs, milk, vanilla...to some of the mixes and the cakes are single layer.

Shipment starts June 1st.

This is absolutely the most exciting news I have heard all day!! Wahooo for Betty Crocker!!! I can't wait to be able to buy a mix at a regular grocery store!!!

:huh: I have been counting down the days to June, anxiously awaiting the release of the new items...but its been June for six whole days now and I cannot find the new Betty Crocker items anywhere. I have had store managers online and on the phone, still nothing. So either the products haven't been released yet, or they haven't found their way to my area. However, I am surprised there isn't more people whining about it than just me!

You don't know how happy this makes me! I have a cake decorating business, and I have not eaten any cake scraps in a month since I have started the gluten fee diet.

I called the 1 800 number and the lady told me they started shipping this stuff out on June 1st. She couldn't give me a list of the stores, so she told me that calling my local grocery stores would be the only way to find these products.

They are here! I finally found them at Schnucks. They are $3.99. They have four varieties; chocolate chip cookie, brownie, vanilla cake and devils food cake. I got the cookie and brownies. I am going to make them tonight! I can't wait!!!!! I will report back!

The Choc Chip Cookies are to die for!!! And soooo easy. We ate them last night. I rec'vd them from someone who works there, trying to get the word out. We live in So. Calif. But she thought they weren't officially coming out for a couple more months. Hopefully soon!! And I heard they had granola bars - but I didn't get a sample.

Let us know if you find out about the granola bars!!! i have been wanting a good granola bar for so long now. i also cant wait to try those cookies. i havent had a chocolate chip cookie recipe turn out well yet

Hey Amy Leigh from MO! I'm in St Louis - are you saying I can go to Schnuck's and find the devil's food cake mix for my fiance's birthday cake that I have to make in 2 weeks!!?? This is fantastic! He can eat gluten, but I can't, so I told him he would have a gluten-free cake so I could practice gluten-free baking, and have his cake and eat it too ;)

This whole thread has been funny to read! I do have one thought on the B. Crocker line.....I never ate any boxed cookies or cake mixes because

if you looked at the ingredients listing, you would see there was a lot of crap in the standard, gluten filled mixes. Stuff I could never fathom why people would eat.

Then, at a gluten-free dine out a month ago, the guy that arranges the dinners had 1 box of the B. Crocker gluten-free mix for the C.C. cookies and I got to read the ingredients listing for it. It actually is much, much better than the standard mixes. It still is heavily based on white rice flour but there isn't all the garbage that makes up their regular mixes. So, I think the gluten-free line would be a better choice for anyone to eat. I doubt most people would shell out $4.00 per mix, compared to the price of the regular ones but I personally do not think $4.00 for a batch of cookies is all that much anyway. It looks like the B. Crocker people have followed the same lines as the gluten-free Pantry mixes, which I think are the absolute best. They deserve credit for doing this because most people get emotionally attached to a brand name and, although there are many other excellent gluten-free mix choices out there, they don't get the same response as putting B. Crocker on the label. The pricing is all the same.

I will probably buy a box of B. Crocker's at some point but I think it will be just as good as most of the gluten-free mixes already on the market. It is good to see Celiac become more mainstream, finally!

If you want to try an excellent cake mix, buy the Dowd and Rogers brand, sold at some Whole Foods. It is made with Italian chestnut flour as the base and is SUCH a nice change from the standard white rice flour versions.

I found these today at the Albertsons in Mill Creek (Bothell/Everett Highway). They seemed to have only the chocolate and yellow cake mixes and the cookies. We bought the yellow cake mix. Only problem for us is that we can't have eggs and dairy. I can't find any kind of margarine that doesn't have dairy in it, except for the liquid or soft kinds that don't work for baking. So I am going to try making it with coconut oil and egg replacer.

The Pathmark in Bethpage NY has all four mixes. I bought them all for $4.19 each one. Didnt have a chance to bake any of them yet.

We've made the brownies & they're pretty good! I was surprised at the 7 Tbs of butter that it needed :o but we managed to finish them off pretty quick!

I found the brownie, yellow cake and cookie mixes at Fred Meyer (Kroger) in the south Seattle area.

We did discover that you cannot make the brownies using melted coconut oil and egg replacer :ph34r: . I was trying to make them completely dairy and egg free for my daughter's friend. Should have known that the coconut oil wouldn't be right!

I have had both the brownies and the cookies and they were to die for. I was very impressed and I think that 3.99 is a good price. Compared to the 6.99 I used to buy for my fave brownie mix.

Betty Crocker also has this big collection of gluten free recipes on her website too...I suggest the brownie/choc chip bake--very good and my coworkers can vogue for it.

Hmmmm . . . might want to check that again . . . my box of brownies called for 1/2 stick of butter (4 Tbs). It made a really thick batter.

The yellow cake mix and cookie mix each called for one stick of butter.

I think these are due out this month. I keep checking my food stores and nothing yet. I will let you all know how they are, although I am sure if you all like cake they way my husband does you will be tellimg me. LOL

Friday I bought the cookies, brownies and yellow cake mix (I couldn't decide and I was headed to my grandparents for the weekend in a tiny town where I didn't think I would have any choices). Well, today I made the cookies. Very good but my turned out a little crumbly, may have to try it again and see if it comes out better.

I also walked into the tiny local supermarket and found all of the mixes where there. I picked up the chocolate cake and now have a cabinet full of dessert mixes. Time to try the rest but since I live alone it may take me awhile to work through the mixes (wait, who am I kidding). I gave half the cookies to my grandparents (who surprisingly don't mind gluten free things) and am nearly through my dozen. Hopefully the rest of the mixes are just as good (or a little better).

What state are you in and what store did you buy them from??

i havent seen any in our part of NC!!!

      how much gluten do I need to eat before blood tests?

      oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after eating them. If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back...

IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.

      oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.

      Under the circumstances, your decision to have the testing done on day 14 sounds very reasonable. But I think by now you know for certain that you either have celiac disease or NCGS and either way you absolutely need to eliminate gluten from your diet. I don't think you have to have an official diagnosis of celiac disease to leverage gluten free service in hospitals or institutional care and I'm guessing your physician would be willing to grant you a diagnosis of gluten sensitivity (NCGS) even if your celiac testing comes up negative. Also, you need to be aware that oats (even gluten free oats) is a common cross reactor in the celiac community. Oat protein (avenin) is similar to gluten. You might want to look at some other gluten free hot  breakfast cereal alternatives.
