Gluten Free Restaurants In Va (reston Town Center?)

I know I'm getting really specific here, but does anyone know of any gluten free restaurants in at Reston Town Center (in Reston VA)? I'm traveling to a hotel there for work, and I will not have a car to drive around in. I'll have to walk to this area to eat every night. Thanks for any help!

Looks like there are quite a few...depends on your choice of food, level of comfort, price, etc. Uno's, McCormick & Schmicks, Chipotle, Clyde's among others.

There is a Wegmans' grocery store in Fairfax also, but you need a car or cab to go there.

If you can catch a ride to a metro stop, you go to a lot of areas in and around DC for not too much money. They have a day pass for $11.80 good for all day.

Metro's site has a trip planner that will tell you the time for a trip and the cost, using metro only or metro and bus.

This thread has some info on DC gluten-free restaurants. Uno's Pizza and Z-Pizza both have gluten-free pizza. I'd check ahead of time with the store to make sure before going, as they may not all have it yet.

If you are there over the weekend, you might enjoy checking out the Artomatic show, opening this Friday evening. It's a free show, and right across the street from the Navy Yard Metro stop. 1000 artists and 9 floors of art, lots of free events and performances too.

Big Bowl (thai and Chinese) I eat there semi-regularly, just ask for their gluten free menu. There's also an Unos (w/ a gluten-free menu), and I've been safe at Rio Grande (next to Big Bowl). There's another Thai place called basura but I can't guarantee they're gluten-free (language barrier). There's also a cupcake place called Edible Incredible's that is introducing gluten-free cupcakes in either June or July.

Great info and thank you all for posting the question and responses.

I have been recently diagnosed with Celiacs and hoped to connect with others in the community to learn from their experiences. Can anyone point me in the direction of a local group or some other way to learn more?

I just looked into the Reston Town Center because I'm looking for places to take my parents for lunch.

What I found was that almost every restaurant there claims to be able to cater to a gluten-free diet (according to their websites).

Heres the safe-list:

If you are like me, and super sensitive, then I would be careful about eating at Chipotle. They say they can do gluten free, but they also say that they work a lot with flour tortillas and cannot guarantee cross-contamination won't happen. They mention they are willing to change their gloves for you, but considering how prevalent the use of flour tortillas is there, I would not order from that restaurant.

Ate at Vapiano's last week. It's a pasta place. Definitely not gluten free unless it's the salads you're looking for... then, any place could be considered gluten free...

      Hi @Atl222 As @trents points out, there could be many reasons for this biopsy result.  I am interested to know, is your gastroenterologist concerned?  Also, are your blood tests showing steady improvement over the years? I remember when I had my last biopsy, several years after diagnosis, mine came back with with raised lymphocytes but no villous damage, too! In my own case, my consultant wasn't remotely concerned - in fact, he said I might still get this result even if all I ever did was eat nothing but rice and water.   My coeliac blood tests were still steadily improving, albeit slowly, which was reassuring.

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.

      This is a solid, well-reasoned approach. You’re right that “koji” by itself doesn’t indicate gluten status, and the risk really does come down to which grain is used to culture it. The fact that you directly contacted Eden Foods and received a clear statement that their koji is made from rice only, with no wheat or barley, is meaningful due diligence—especially since Eden has a long-standing reputation for transparency. While the lack of gluten labeling can understandably give pause, manufacturer confirmation like this is often what people rely on for traditionally fermented products. As always, trusting your body after trying it is reasonable, but based on the information you gathered, your conclusion makes sense.
