I don't see any indicators of all threads being pinned. Does this mean they're finally not anymore?

One issue I just ran into, is I clicked New Content (after making a few replies) and although it said there were 20 topics, the list was empty. So I clicked my bookmark for the new content, and the topics got listed.

No, it means that you are looking at the "New Content" view where the pin indicator is not showing. That is something we are working on, cuz we need that back.

This was a major upgrade--many things have changed. The look and feel is different and we all all feeling our way round, including the moderators.

There have been a number of issues identified. Some of them have been resolved, and others are still being worked on. Please bear with us as we work them out. Ask questions and post issues here. We will do our best to address them.

I can't even imagine how much work this must be for you. Okay, you've convinced me . . . I'm holding out all good faith that the boards become a little more user friendly again.

Thank you for all you do for all of us.

Hang with us Lyn, we're gettin' there . . . :D

OK . . . I've spent a little more time with the "Watched Content" box.

First scenario: If you click on the "Topics" tab and you don't see your any of your subscribed threads but you see the "toggle topic with no new" button, this means none of your watched threads have any new posts.

Second scenario: If you click on the "Topics" tab and there is at least one thread listed, all of these threads listed have new posts. At this point, if you hit the toggle button (now at the bottom of the list of threads with new content), you would switch to all the other threads that you watch that DON'T have new posts. Hitting the toggle button again brings you back to the threads with new posts. If you select one of these threads that have new posts, it WILL take you to the first UNREAD post. Once you leave that thread, that thread name will be moved to the list of watched threads that have no new posts. (Note that if you use the back arrow to return to the watched content box, you will not see the updated thread list).

OK . . . As far as I know, I think the only way to access the Watched Content is from the home page. So the quickest way back to the Watched Content box is to probably hit "forum home" at the bottom of the page under the last blue border stripe.

Now, it strikes me that the toggle button should probably say "toggle topic with no new" when you are on the page with threads with new posts AND "toggle topic with new" when you're not. I'll ask Scott, but I might not fully understand this feature and it might be right as is.

This is a test post...just testing.

If Watched topics were lost during the upgrade process, I'm sorry about that--there is no way to get them back so you'll have to find the topics again and add them to your watched topic list.

Is there a consensus that there is a bug in the Watched Topics function? Can you add lot's of topics and get the notifications? Please PM me if you are experiencing problems with it.

FYI: You can now log into this forum with your Facebook account--keep in mind that any posts you make will be under that different personality--and I am trying to fix a bug where you can import your Facebook info, pics, etc., directly into an existing account here.

Take care,

Scott

Thank you! I'm so happy to learn this!!!!! :)

Just an FYI: My browser (Explorer) doesn't show "toggle topics with new," instead it just says "toggle topics with" -- the "new" doesn't show. If others view it this way as well, that may be adding to the new post confusion.

Scott Adams Grand Master

FYI: This may not be related to anything mentioned here, but one known bug is that when you are on the forum's home page:

https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/

there is a button that, at least in the Fire Fox browser, appears in the center of the top-right advertising banner. This button will change your home page view so that you can view new topics.

I just wanted to mention that, and that bug should be fixed soon.

Take care,

Scott

Would there be a way to move the "Mark Board As Read" function to the top of the screen, perhaps in the same vicintity as the "View New Content" function?

Roda Rising Star

I have noticed when I am typing a response that I can not always see all of the text on a line. The advertisements seem to me to be getting in the way. Also if I happen to proof read my response before posting and I find an error, if I go back up to an area to fix, it the box seems to "jump" and you can not see where your cursor is. You have to scroll down to find it. This happens to me when I edit also. It is very distracting.

RiceGuy Collaborator

I've noticed that the time for all my posts is off by one hour. I have double-checked my settings, and all is correct. So I'd have to guess either the board or the server is off.

Jestgar Rising Star

hmm, mine are correct. Maybe there's a daylight savings time box that's improperly checked in your time zone.

RiceGuy Collaborator

The DST setting is what I expected to be incorrect, but it's not. It reports the correct offset from GMT, which is why I figure the server time might be off. I'd have to set the wrong time zone in order to compensate.

I suppose, depending on the time zone of the server, some users might see the correct time.

psawyer Proficient

I am seeing correct times on my posts and those by others. I am in the Eastern time zone. The server operates on Pacific time.

RiceGuy Collaborator

Well, I've checked and double-checked my settings. Just looked now, and I noticed it said that the DST setting is automatically set when you load the board index. So I went to that page. If this post has the correct time, then going to the index page is the key to having the correct setting.

<EDIT>

Yep! That was it! Strange. And I thought I'd loaded that page the first day I saw the new format.

mushroom Proficient

Okay, RiceGuy, I need your help here. I sent Scott an email about this problem. My time is not adjusted for daylight savings either. BUT, what the heck is the index page and how do you get there??

psawyer Proficient

Go to https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/ by clicking the link here, or click the item on the title bar to the left of the green button labeled "Forums."

mushroom Proficient

Okay, didn't know that was called the Index Page. And that's the one that has the incorrect time in the lower right corner. I can highlight it, but I can't change it.

psawyer Proficient

To access your time settings, look at the top right where your user name is. Click the downward-pointing arrow to the right of it and choose "My Settings" from the pull-down menu. After making changes there, reload the index page. That should get it sorted.

mushroom Proficient

Thanks, Peter; that did it! (Not a power user  )

Can you tell me what kind of browser software you are using, and what version of it? Also, are you on a Mac or PC platform? Are others having this issue?

Microsoft internet explorer version 8 amd I have windows vista at home. Does this on my work computer also.

Scott Adams Grand Master

I can't reproduce this and I have the same setup here at work and at home. I wonder if this could be your browser's security settings? Be sure that you are not blocking cookies, and that you security settings are at the default levels.

Any way there can be a topic called 'what happened to my posting'? That way if something needs to be deleted or removed we would know where or why it disappeared.

Hi @emzie and welcome to the forum. Perhaps could be residual inflammation and bloating that is causing sensitivity in that area.  I was diagnosed with coeliac disease in 2013 and I remember some years ago my sister telling me around that time that she had a lady in her church, also a coeliac, who  had real pain when she turned her torso in a certain direction whilst doing exercises, but otherwise was responding well to the gluten-free diet. As far as I know is still the picture of health. I often end up with pain in various parts of my gut if I eat too much rich food or certain types of fibre (for some reasons walnuts make my gut hurt, and rice cakes!) and and as a rule, the pain usually hangs around for a number of days, maybe up to a week.   When I bend over or turn, I can feel it.  I think this is actually due to my other diagnosis of IBS, for years I thought I had a rumbling appendix but I think it must have just been IBS.  Reading the experiences of other sufferers, it seems quite typical.  Sensitized gut, build up of gas - it stands to reason that the extra pressure of turning can increase the pain. When I am glutened I get a burning, gnawing pain in my stomach on and off for some days - it isn't constant, but it can take up a few hours of the day.  I believe this to be gastritis, but it seems to hurt irrespective of movement.   Anyway, you are doing the right thing to seek a professional opinion, though, so do let us know how you get on.   Meanwhile, might I suggest you drink peppermint tea, or try slices of fresh ginger in hot water? A lot of IBS sufferers say the former is very helpful in relieving cramps, etc, and the latter is very soothing on the stomach. Cristiana

Hi! One of the usual symptoms I have with a gluten flare up has deviated a bit and I thought I'd search for advice/opinions here. Also to see if anyone goes through similar stuff. Monday all of a sudden I got really bad pain in my stomach (centre, right under the chest, where the duodenum would be located). I ended up having to throw up for 2 hours, my body was trying to get rid of something from all sides and it was just horrible. Since then I havent been nauseous anymore at all, but the pain has stayed and it always worsens the moment i start moving. The more I move the more it hurts, and when i rest longer it seems to dissapear (no movement). I've had this before, but years ago I think around when I first got diagnosed with coeliac, where each time I moved, my stomach would hurt, to the point where I went to the ER because doctors got freaked out. That only lasted 1 night though, and Now it's already wednesday, so 3 days since then, but the pain persists and remains leveled. it doesn't get crazy intense, but it's still uncomfortable to the point I cant really go out because Im afraid itll turn into a giant flare up again. I couldn't think of where I could possibly have been glutened at this bad of a level and why it hasn't passed yet. I went to the GP, and as long as I have no fever and the pain isnt insane then its fine which I havent had yet. Tomorrow im also seeing a gastroenterologist specialized in IBS and coeliac for the first time finally in years, but I thought I'd ask on here anyway because it still hasnt dissapeared. It also hurts when someone presses on it. Maybe it's just really inflamed/irritated. I'm just frustrated because I'm missing out on my uni lectures and I do a sports bachelor, so I can't get behind on stuff & next to that i'm also going to go to the beach with my boyfriend's family this weekend: (

Hi. So sorry to hear about your shingles. There is a lidocaine cream that you can get at Walmart that will help numb the pain.  That's what I used for mine. It can't be put near your eyes or in your ears. I hope your doctor gave you valacyclovir which is an antiviral.  It does lessen the symptoms. If it is in your eyes,  see an ophthalmologist.  They have an antiviral eye drop that can be prescribed.  Shingles in the eye could cause blindness.  I was unsure whether you have celiac or not.  If you do,  follow the diet.  I believe that extra stress on your body does affect everything. Shingles can recur. If you start getting the warning signs of nerves tingling,  see the dr and start taking the valacyclovir to prevent a breakout. If I sound technical,  I am a retired pharmacist.

You are right to be proactive, as research does indicate that individuals with celiac disease can have a higher predisposition to enamel defects, cavities, and periodontal issues, even with excellent oral hygiene. While many people with celiac successfully undergo orthodontic treatment without complication, your caution is valid. It may be beneficial to seek a consultation with an orthodontist who is familiar with managing patients with autoimmune conditions or who is willing to collaborate with your daughter's gastroenterologist or a periodontist. They can perform a thorough assessment of her current oral health, discuss your specific concerns about recession and decay, and create a tailored hygiene plan. This second opinion could provide a clearer risk-benefit analysis, helping you decide if addressing the cosmetic concern of the lower teeth is worth the potential risks for your daughter, especially if they are not currently affecting function or her confidence.
